Keywords: figurative language, oscar wilde, poems The function of figurative language is to add the beauty and artwork of the poems and also to make the poems more interesting and unique. The objectives of the study were to explain the kinds of figurative language that is used in Oscar Wilde’s poems and to explain the contextual meaning of each figurative language in Oscar Wilde’s poems. This research is designed to identify some figurative language by understanding the general meaning when they are used in poems. The technique of descriptive analysis offered to analyze data by reading the data, then identifying the figurative language used in the poems. After identifying some figurative language the researcher categorized them into some kinds of figurative languages. Then, the researcher analyzed the general meaning of figurative language by identifying the contextual meaning of the ten selected the poems. First the writer collected Oscar Wilde’s poems then read and understood 10 poems of Oscar Wilde and the last collected data then selected figurative language found in Oscar Wilde’s poems. In analyzing data the writer analyzed every figurative language that are found in the poems and the last drawing conclusion based on the result of data analysis. In finding and discussion there were found and analyzed contextual meaning on 10 poems of Oscar Wilde. Finally, it is hoped that this research will be benefit for the readers especially to the students who are interested in analyzing the same literary work in English Department in Walisongo State Islamic University. .v DEDICATION In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful, I dedicate this thesis to my beloved father and my mother (Mr. Sudarto and Mrs. Farida Mahmud) who have been supporting in moral and material in my life and also accompany and pray for me until now. The current study is concerned with identifying and analysing litotes in Donald Trump's political speeches on pragmatic level. The study aims at identifying the illocutionary force of litotes, the functions of litotes, which maxim of Grice is mainly breached in the production of litotes to produce implicature, and which type of litotes is heavily used by Trump. The analysis is curried out on data consists of four texts from Trump's speeches during being president from 2016 to 2019. The study concludes that the illocutionary force of litotes in most of the times is asserting. Litotes is used mainly to fulfil the function of emphasis, but it can be used to perform the functions of encouraging and inciting. Trump uses contrary litotes in most of his speeches. Key words: Pragmatics, Litotes, Illocutionary force, Implicature, Functions. Introduction Politicians use different strategies and devices to convince their audience or gain their support. Figurative language is one of these strategies that are mainly based on the use of certain figures of speech such as irony, euphemism, metaphor, litotes etc. according to Griffiths (2006:81). Understanding figurative language requires a great interaction between semantics and pragmatics. Therefore, to understand the meaning of certain figure of speech a total knowledge of the context is required.

Jensen Summary Russia uses its information warfare capability as a tactic, especially its RT Arabic and Sputnik news services, to advance its foreign policy goals in the Middle East: become a great power in the region; reduce the role of the United States; prop up allies such as Bashir al- Assad in Syria, and fight terrorism. Evidence suggests that while Russian media narratives are disseminated broadly in the region by traditional means and online, outside of Syria its impact has been limited. The ability of regional authoritarian governments to control the information their societies receive, cross cutting political pressures, the lack of longstanding ethnic and cultural ties with Russia, and widespread doubts about Russian intentions will make it difficult for Moscow to use information operations as an effective tool should it decide to maintain an enhanced permanent presence in the region. Introduction Russian assessments of the international system make it clear that the Kremlin considers the country to be engaged in full-scale information warfare. This is reflected in Russia’s latest military doctrine, approved December 2014, comments by public officials, and Moscow’s aggressive use of influence operations.1 The current Russian practice of information warfare combines a number of tried and tested tools of influence with a new embrace of modern technology and capabilities such as the Internet.
