HOLIDAYS Well-known within our congregation is a special poem sung to honor the Ḥatanim on Simḥat Torah called Tenu Shebaḥa. It is a simple poem with a beautiful melody that has become a much SHABU`OT loved highlight of the holiday. This piyyut (liturgical poem) is recited only in our congregation, as its melody and words were composed SHABU`OT PUBLIC LECTURE by the Hazzan Jacques Judah Lyons. Lyons served Shearith Israel Saturday Night, May 19 | 11:00 pm from 1839 to 1877. He had a very long tenure and meticulously Rabbi Meir Soloveichik recorded our customs in great detail and was an influential figure in the perpetuation of our minhag.
