Auctioneer’s Report: (Greg MacDougall): A large ringside of buyers in attendance all adhering to the current social distancing measures. A pleasing trade with all types well bid for. A nice run of yearling steers from B&SE Carter, Elle sold to £1095 with others to £1080 while S Hill, Beaumont Grange topped the days sale at £1230 with a marvellous run of cattle averaging £1154. Stronger end cattle in general either side of £1000 with better kinds £1100.-£1200. Grazing types and heifers £750-£900 depending on quality with smarter butcher heifers £990-£1090. Strongest B+W’s £800-£880 with trade in general around £700. Competition for Blue heifers as cow replacements was fierce, with several calves in the £300’s, topping at £355 from Malcolm & Jo Fell, who’s run of 9 averaged £330. The Fell’s also topped the Blue bulls along with Andrew Dawson at £365, again plenty of calves in the £300’s, medium sorts in the late £200’s. A run of young continental calves, 15-25 days look well sold either side of £200. Best Natives to £290 from Brian Barnes, others £190-£240. Heifers to £205 for Angus’ from John & Brian Lawson other younger sorts £160-£190. Dairy bulls well sort after, Montbelliarde £175-£190 peaking at £250. A nice continental shearling with twins sold to £250 from Joe and Sam Gorst, Killington with Texels to £180 for singles from C R Alderson, Mallerstang. In general Mules with twins around £180 with plainer sorts £150-£160. The hogg and lamb sale, all be it different to usual, got off to a good start with a run of homebred continentals from D&R Cornthwaite, Lockerbie selling to £220 twice. The section was topped at£240 from locals Frank and Sue Towers. Continental Hoggs in strong demand and short of requirements with trade in general £210-£220. A mixed show of quality in the Mule section, without a doubt a highlight of the sale being a wonderful run of homebred Hoggs with strong Suffolk lambs at foot from A R Edmond- son, Hawkswell selling to £220 averaging £200 for the run. Best Mule hoggs in general either side of £200 with the next draw down £180-£190. Commercial sorts around £160 and looking well sold. Next special sale for Hoggs with lambs is the Annual Whitsuntide Sale to be held Wednesday 27th May with entries invited. Thank you. Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall): Another small show with numbers tight around the country, all classes in demand and many more are required. The nights dale was topped at £141.50 for Texels from East Mains with nicer ewes in general £120-£140. Good selling lean types £90-£110. Mule ewes around £10 dearer on the week with lean types around £75. Horned ewes of all classes good to sell with best fleshy types £70-£80 with a few pens around £85. Medium types £50+ with plain in the £40’s. Best Rams £100-£119 with plain £80-£90.

HOGGS More hoggs forward with very much a mixed show on offer with some proper tail end sorts as well as some nice consignments of travelled fed sheep. Handy-weight hoggs in strong demand with plenty pens often between 220p-240p with nicer sorts 250p-265p topping at 268.3p or £110 from RL&AR Philips, Fir Trees. Auctioneer’s Report: (Stephen Dennis): More spring lambs forward again and overall the quality rather better. Some exceptional lambs from Brian Barnes, Hawkin Hall would surely have taken the red ticket had the May lamb competition been on, his best weighing 45kg grossing £135/head whilst the Jenkinson family again shone with handy weight Beltex lambs selling to 333pkg. Continental lambs averaged 274pkg. A better show of Suffolk x lambs topped at £123.50 or 308pkg from Sandra Blades and averaged throughout the breed 264pkg. A full ringside of buyers as more firms switch towards the new season lamb.
