W Entries will be restricted to goats from herds that are whole herd negative CAE tested within the twelve months prior to the show. This category may include goats eligible for category B. BGS Regulation 25 defines “whole herd” for CAE testing purposes. The two classifications listed in BGS Regulation 18(10b) contain no mention of herds that are CAE Accredited under the Sheep and Goat Health Scheme operated by the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC). The scheme, aimed at disease eradication, is supported by the BGS, but special provisions need to be made at shows for goats within the scheme. It is the responsibility of those with CAE Accredited herds to ascertain that shows which they wish to enter have the necessary facilities, and they must also ensure that they comply with the Scheme’s rules and conditions whilst on the Showground. The following statements must be made on entry schedules for all categories of shows from January 1st 2000: “ No entries will be accepted in the B or W categories unless CAE blood test results are on BGS submission forms or Sheep and Goat Health Scheme forms. This us to enable quick and accurate confirmation of the status of the goats attending a show”. There will be a minimum two metre gap, between the different health status goats. Scrapie Monitoring herd scheme will also be approved in the dairy goat section. Exhibitors are advised that milk that has been passed through the communal weigh bucket should not be fed to kids, as this has been a factor in the spread of CAE in the past. Page 47 BRUCELLOSIS – GWARTHEG YN LLOIA – ERTHYLU AR FAES Y SIOE BRUCELLOSIS – CATTLE CALVING – ABORTING ON THE SHOWGROUND An animal calving at full term should be placed immediately in the approved isolation accommodation or returned immediately to its premises of origin after receiving permission from the Society. If the owner wishes to return it to the cattle lines he may, at the discretion of the Honorary Festival Director or his nominee, arrange for a blood sample and vaginal swab to be taken privately and examined at an approved laboratory. If both the Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT) and microscopical examination of a smear made from the swab are negative, the animal may then leave isolation. Welsh Government will not be responsible for any fee or other charges incurred in this respect. Animals calving prematurely or aborting must immediately be placed in the approved isolation accommodation and the AHVLA at the Showground will be informed by the Office. If an animal calves or aborts before it can be isolated, full precautions must be taken to isolate and disinfect any possibly contaminated standings, bedding, utensils and vehicles. The AHVLA will serve a BS 27 Isolation Notice on the owner or person in charge and arrange an investigation (either by an OV) ensuring that the full range of samples is obtained. The animal under investigation will remain in isolation whilst on the Showground. Once fit to travel, it can return home or remain in isolation until the end of the Show. If the animal is moved before the BS 27 Notice is lifted, a Movement Licence will be required, obtained from the AHVLA. The AHVLA for the Show will notify the AHVLA of the Division of the registered premises of the circumstances of the abortion so that a further BS 27 can be served isolating the animal pending the results of further laboratory investigations. All other bovine animals from the same registered premises will not be allowed to compete further in the Show until negative results for an RBPT and microscopical examination of the smear from the aborting animal have been received. The degree of direct and indirect contact between the animal(s) under investigation and all other cattle on the Showground will be assessed and appropriate measures taken. Entry fees are not returnable to an exhibitor who enters an animal in a class for which it is ineligible or for entries which are withdrawn after the date of entry has expired. Exhibitors are expected to behave responsibly at all times, any irresponsible misconduct or abuse of Health and Safety regulations by exhibitors to their exhibits, or towards any Society stewards will be dealt with as defined in the current Livestock Rules & Regulations. All exhibitors should note the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (as amended) 1992, which requires co-operation and co-ordination between all exhibitors and the RWAS. The requirements on both are to carry out adequate risk assessments. It is then necessary to implement any procedures as required by the above legislation, and also inform all those concerned of these assessments and procedures. Animals which are known to be wild or fractious by nature must not be brought to the Showground. Animals which are subject to restrictions under the Animal Health Act 1981 (as amended) or the Animal and Animals Products (Import and Export) (England and Wales) Regulations (as amended) will not be allowed onto the Showground. DYDDIADAU GENI / DATES OF BIRTH The ages of the cattle are (except where otherwise specified) calculated on the first day of the Festival, but sheep and pigs will be duly classified by the age estimated from 1st January in each year.
