Ed had just skied the Saslong course in the Super G event, one of the most difficult, after catching his breath he told me about the experience. “It’s a tough course, one of the toughest on the circuit and you are up against the best in the world”. The BOA presented a trophy to each of the summer and winter Olympic sports organisations for them to award annually to their top performing athlete of the year. This is the first time a cross-country skier has been awarded the trophy by the governing body for British skiing and snowboarding. In the last year Andrew has produced the best results on record of any British cross-country skier. In the run up to the Olympic Games in Canada his world ranking earned Britain a second allocation for the men's events. His 15 km time trial race at the Olympics was the best result of any British cross-country skier at any Olympics, and his 30 km pursuit race was the 3rd best all time British cross-country result. His leg of the team sprint was an inspiration and was the third fastest of the day. He is a fantastic ambassador for British sport and sportsmanship in Norway and Sweden.

Some Albums To Keep Your Toes Warm This October Bittles‘ Magazine | Record Review As Autumn wraps her chilly arms around the country we look to music for the comfort that we can no longer get from happiness or the sun. Luckily, this time of year tends to be when great new bands get off their asses and go out on tour, while it also seems like there is another fantastic new album to delight us every single day. By JOHN BITTLES In fact, there are so many great new releases this month that there is absolutely no chance of squeezing them into one single article. This week alone I will be reviewing Caribou, Gui Boratto, The 2 Bears, A Winged Victory For The Sullen, and tons more. While, next week we’ll have new albums by Slam, Distal, Huxley, DJ Koze among others. So, make yourself comfy, turn off the phone, geta nice glass of wine, and let us begin. As lead single ›Can’t Do Without You‹ won both our hearts and minds this summer it is only fair to commence with ›Our Love‹, the much anticipated follow-up to ›Swim‹ by Caribou. The aforementioned ›Can’t Do Without You‹ opens proceedings in, sadly, edited form, yet that doesn’t stop it from being one of the most touchingly beautiful four minute pop song you are likely to hear all year. Next track ›Silver‹ keeps the emotional trance elements to the fore, while alternate sounds are explored with ›All I Ever Need‹ utilizing UK Garage style bass over Dan’s falsetto and the title track›‹ recalling a time when the Es were good, and hugging strangers was par for the course.

Truck, which had been the centrepiece of Oxford’s live music calendar since 1998, surviving both floods and foot and mouth crises, succumbed to financial woes last year, going into administration in September. However, the event has been taken over by the organisers of Y-Not Festival in Derbyshire, which won Best Grassroots Festival 2011 at the UK Festival Awards. The new organisers hope to take Truck back to its roots as a local community festival. In a statement on the Truck website, Joe and Robin announced, ““We have always felt a great responsibility for the integrity and sustainability of Truck Festival, which grew so quickly and with such enthusiasm from very humble beginnings in 1998. The first name to mention among the athletes that will be descending on the slopes this winter season wearing the CARRERA brand is Carlo Janka, the young Swiss athlete, who last year won the General World Cup for the downhill and giant slalom races. Along with Janka, we will also be seeing the Swede Anja Paerson, the Austrians Rainer Schoenfelder and Michael Walchhofer, who with Elisabeth Goergl and Mario Scheiber will be giving the White Circus fans some terrific emotions. The CARRERA SKI RACING TEAM 2010/2011 will also count the Swiss talent Marc Berthod, among its ranks, who in the past seasons achieved brilliant results in his disciplines. The novelties of this season are the two promising young Finns, Markus Sandell, who despite a serious fall was able to participate in the Vancouver Olympic Games; and Andreas Romar, the bronze medal winner in the 2009 Junior World Ski Championships. Some big names in Nordic skiing also stand out including the Olympic ski-jumping champion Thomas Morgenstern and the World ski-jumping champion Gregor Schlierenzauer. ! E io te li faccio subito: nell’ordine Bode Miller, Peter Fill e Aksel Lund Svindal”. E Reichelt? “Sì lo so, qui ha vinto l’anno scorso, ma tu vuoi sapere i primi tre e io te li ho detti. Comunque appena giù dal podio c’è lui, facciamo quarto, e Guay quinto”. E tu? “Non è mai bello parlare di se stessi. Io sto bene, sono in forma e non importa se domani arrivo decimo, quindicesimo o terzo. Nello sci bisogna essere anche fortunati. Specie su questa pista che non ti permette di sbagliare mai.
