SASSO, HOFFMAN PLACE AT MIDLANDS Competing unattached at the 56th Midlands Championships in Chicago, true freshmen Gavin Hoffman and Sammy Sasso both reached the podium. Hoffman placed fifth at 184 pounds with a 5-2 record and two tech falls. Sasso responded to a controversial call not going in his favor to end his opening bout by rattling of seven straight wins for third place at 149 pounds. His run through the wrestlebacks included four wins over nationally-ranked opponents to make a splash on the national stage.

In the 2018 tournament, Myles Martin was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler. The Buckeyes registered an overall record of 38-11 (.776) which included a 16-6 mark (.727) vs. top-20 opponents.

B1G HONORS FOR MYLES MARTIN Myles Martin was recognized as a Big Ten Wrestler of the Week on Dec. 4. His 5-0 weekend in Vegas included three major decisions and a . Two of those majors came against top-20 opponents before capping his title run off by more than doubling up the nation’s third-ranked 184-pounder, 11-5, in the finals.

U23 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Kollin Moore and Myles Martin both represented Team USA at the U23 World Championships in Romania. Moore advanced to the 97-kg finals and brought home a silver medal while Martin was also victorious in his opening bout before bowing out.

WEST COAST WINS Despite no Martin or Moore in the varsity lineup, Ohio State still registered two dual victories on the road at Cal Baptist and No. 10 Arizona State (Nov. 16-18). The Buckeyes won 16 of 20 bouts in total.

BUCKEYES DOMINATE IN CLEVELAND Nineteen Buckeye wrestlers entered the Ohio Intercollegiate Open’s Gold (top) Division. Nine walked away as champions after 13 reached the finals, setting up an Ohio State vs. Ohio State championship bout in four of 10 weight classes.

KYLE SNYDER HONROED AT 2019 NCAA CONVENTION Ohio State wrestling legend Kyle Snyder was selected as one of 10 NCAA student-athletes across ALL sports and ALL divisions to be honored as the 2019 Today’s Top- 10 Award winners. The award recognizes former student-athletes for their successes on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Recipients completed their athletics eligibility during the 2017-18 academic year and were recognized at the Honors Celebration on Jan. 23, in Orlando, Fla.
