    OCTOBER 2018 Volume 4, Issue 9 Carter Lake Newsletter Letter From Mayor Cumberledge Hello Citizens, Sweet Street is set for Tuesday, October 30th from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the school. This is always a great time for the kids. Movie Night at the Library is set for Saturday, November 3rd at dark. Fall recreation is back on starting December 10th at the school gym from 5:30 to 7:00 pm every Monday and Wednesday until late March. This is a program the City Council and I wanted to bring back after being gone for many years. The buzz around new businesses continues, but proposals are not firm enough to describe at this time. The Prairie Flower Casino Project is coming along nicely as well as the Ponca Smoke Signals’ new building. They both will open around early November. The Lakeside Auto Recyclers’ upgrade is in the final construction stage with the 9th Street landscape and new fence, plus all the other improvements they have been doing. The Country Inn & Suites Hotel is under new ownership and doing some upgrades to match the new hotels next to them. The La Quinta Inn is now owned by the same group and a new upgrade is planned as well. Inside this issue I am working hard on behalf of our City and residents. Often, some of the best suggestions for keeping our City operating smoothly comes from the Food Drive ................ 2 people who live here. And it ended in dramatic fashion. In the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships’ final match after three days of grueling competition inside a legendary arena, Ohio State’s Kyle Snyder used an ankle-pick with eight seconds left to force overtime with North Carolina State’s Nick Gwiazdowski, then score another takedown 15 seconds into the first extra session to end the Wolfpack senior’s 88-match winning streak. Gwiazdowski’s bid for a third title was thwarted, but another senior, Oklahoma State’s Alex Dieringer, finished his career with 82 straight victories and a third national title. Illinois’ Isaiah Martinez won his second championship at 157 pounds. Gabe Dean, a junior for Cornell, picked up his second gold. Missouri’s multi-talented J’den Cox claimed his second in three years. Penn State’s Nico Megaludis and Cornell’s Nahshon Garrett, after long and successful careers, finished in style with their first titles. Oklahoma State’s Dean Heil and Penn State’s Zain Retherford, both sophomores, claimed championship number one, as did Snyder. And underdog Myles Martin, an Ohio State freshman from nearby Penns Grove, New Jersey, had the highlight of the night in beating Penn State’s Bo Nickal. Locked up, both men ready to strike, Nickal tried to turn an ankle-pick into two.

The event will run Friday through Saturday with the competition featuring six weight classes in men’s freestyle (57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg, 125 kg). The champions from the U.S. Olympic Team Trials will become eligible to represent the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, on August 1-7, 2021. Tomasello enters the event in the 57kg freestyle bracket as the No. 7 seed and will face off against the No. 10 seed Zach Sanders, who is the current volunteer assistant coach at Minnesota. Tomasello, the four-time All-American and 2015 National Champion at 125 pounds at Ohio State, will face a fellow four-time All-American in Sanders, who competed for the Gophers. The winner of that bout will face off against No. 2 Daton Fix, a current student-athlete at Oklahoma State. This past season, Fix entered the NCAA Championships as the No. 1 seed and made it to the championship match at 133 pounds for the second time in his career but fell to No.

Three-time NCAA Champion wins wrestling’s Heisman UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; April 1, 2019 – (Portion of release, including quotes, courtesy Bryan Van Kley, WIN Magazine) Penn State Nittany Lion wrestler Bo Nickal (Allen, Texas) has won the WIN Magazine/Culture House Dan Hodge Trophy, presented annually to the top collegiate wrestler in the nation by ASICS. The Hodge Trophy has been awarded since 1995. The three-time NCAA champion finished first in the voting, just ahead of teammate Jason Nolf (Yatesboro, Pa.). A Nittany Lion has now won the last three Hodge Trophy awards. Nickal joins former Nittany Lion greats Zain Retherford and David Taylor, who each claimed two Hodge Trophy honors, and former Lion stand-out Kerry McCoy, who won the honor in 1997, as Penn State recipients. In all, Penn State now has four different individuals who have won the honor six times. The Nittany Lion won his third NCAA championship on March 23, defeating Kollin Moore of Ohio State. The 5-1 finals victory at 197 pounds was Nickal’s 30th of an undefeated senior campaign that included 18 pins, three tech falls and six major decisions. In a year that featured four outstanding finalists for the award, known as “wrestling’s Heisman Trophy,” Nickal won the honor over a senior teammate Jason Nolf, also a three-time NCAA champ who had very similar stats as Nickal. The other two Hodge finalists were Rutgers’ senior Anthony Ashnault and Cornell sophomore two-time champ Yianni Diakomihalis, who won NCAA championships at 149 and 141 pounds, respectively.

The Nittany Lions and Sun Devils will meet in sold out Rec Hall on Friday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m. in a dual that will air live nationally on ESPN2. Arizona State has made a trip to Happy Valley, however, competing in the BJC in the National Duals. All rankings listed are InterMat/InterMat TPI as of Dec. 11. Penn State is coming off a pair of dual victories two weekends ago. The Nittany Lions won nine of ten bouts in a 42-3 win at Bucknell on Nov. 30, the first-ever trip for Penn State at Lewisburg. The dual was wrestled in front of a Bucknell wrestling-record crowd of 4.279, the third-largest in Stojka Pavilion history. Two days later, the Nittany Lions shut-out No. 10 Lehigh 42-0, winning all ten bouts against the short-handed Mountain Hawks in front of yet another Rec Hall sellout crowd. Penn State got ranked wins from Mark Hall at 174, Bo Nickal at 197 and Anthony Cassar at 285. The Nittany Lions sport a balanced and talented line-up: Sophomore Devin Schnupp is 4-3 at 125, having won his last two dual outings.
