A year ago Lehigh stood alongside the Buckeyes as the only two teams to Feb. 17 NEBRASKA W, 21-12 qualify all 10 wrestlers, and in 2019 Ohio State stands alone. Feb. 22 at Cornell W, 25-9 March 9 Big Ten Championships (Minneapolis, Minn.) CHASING TROPHIES Ohio State has brought home hardware in each of the last four NCAA Championships, including March 10 Big Ten Championships 2nd/14 the 2015 team title. In three years since, the Buckeyes have placed third, second and second March 21 NCAA Championships (Pittsburgh, Pa.) while capturing three Big Ten crowns en route to the nationals. Head coach Tom Ryan has guided March 22 NCAA Championships the Scarlet & Gray to top-10 finishes in 10 of 12 seasons since arriving in Columbus. In addition March 23 NCAA Championships to the recent stretch of top-3 placements (2016-18), Ohio State also claimed runner-up honors in both 2008 and 2009. BOOKENDING CAREER BIG TEN DUAL STANDINGS | Final In 2016 Myles Martin became just the 15th true freshman to ever win an NCAA title when he defeated fellow freshman Bo Nickal (Penn State) in the 174-pound finals. Three years later and Big Ten Overall Martin is now seeking to bookend his career with national championships. He is one of eight Penn State 9-0 1.000 14-0 1.000 competitors to carry an NCAA crown into the 2019 event.     DIVISION I WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2016 Championships 2 History 14 Team Finishes 28 All-Time Team Results 34 2016 CHAMPIONSHIPS Penn State, Oklahoma State's Dieringer highlight final day of NCAA Championships at Madison Square Garden: March 19 was a night of firsts, seconds, and thirds inside Madison Square Garden. And it ended in dramatic fashion. In the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships’ final match after three days of grueling competition inside a legendary arena, Ohio State’s Kyle Snyder used an ankle-pick with eight seconds left to force overtime with North Carolina State’s Nick Gwiazdowski, then score another takedown 15 seconds into the first extra session to end the Wolfpack senior’s 88-match winning streak. Gwiazdowski’s bid for a third title was thwarted, but another senior, Oklahoma State’s Alex Dieringer, finished his career with 82 straight victories and a third national title. Illinois’ Isaiah Martinez won his second championship at 157 pounds. Gabe Dean, a junior for Cornell, picked up his second gold. Missouri’s multi-talented J’den Cox claimed his second in three years. Penn State’s Nico Megaludis and Cornell’s Nahshon Garrett, after long and successful careers, finished in style with their first titles. Oklahoma State’s Dean Heil and Penn State’s Zain Retherford, both sophomores, claimed championship number one, as did Snyder. And underdog Myles Martin, an Ohio State freshman from nearby Penns Grove, New Jersey, had the highlight of the night in beating Penn State’s Bo Nickal. Locked up, both men ready to strike, Nickal tried to turn an ankle-pick into two.
