  • Araneae: Nemesiidae)
ZOOLOGIA 27 (3): 425–430, June, 2010 doi: 10.1590/S1984-46702010000300015 Description of two new species of Lycinus (Araneae: Nemesiidae) Sylvia M. Lucas & Rafael P. Indicatti Laboratório de Artrópodes, Instituto Butantan. Avenida Vital Brazil 1500, 05503-900 São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil. E-mail: [email protected]; [email protected] ABSTRACT. Two new species of Lycinus Thorell, 1894 are described in this paper, L. portoseguro sp. nov. and L. choros sp. nov. Lycinus portoseguro sp. nov. is based on male and female from Porto Seguro, state of Bahia, Northeastern Brazil. This is the first record of a species of Lycinus from Brazil. Males of L. portoseguro sp. nov. differ from the remaining species of the genus by the presence of a retrolateral megaspine on tibia I and by the short embolus. Females can be distinguished by the scopulae divided on tarsi II. Lycinus choros sp. nov. is based on one male from La Serena, IV Region (Coquimbo), Chile. It is the eighth species described from this country. L. choros sp. nov. resembles L. epipiptus (Zapfe, 1963) by the longer embolus and differs from it by the short palpal tibia and by the scopulae undivided on male tarsi I-II. KEY WORDS. Atlantic Forest; Chile; Diplothelopsinae; Mygalomorphae. The Nemesiidae Simon, 1889 was raised to family status MATERIAL AND METHODS by RAVEN (1985) from the Nemesiae group proposed by SIMON (1889). RAVEN (1985) transferred to the family genera previously The examined material is deposited in the following in- described in other families and considered it as a senior syn- stitutions (abbreviation and curator in parentheses): Instituto onym of Pycnothelidae Chamberlin, 1917.

Mitt. Hamburg. Zool. Mus. Inst. S. 1-60 IHamburg, Dezember 1961 Die Entomologischen Sammlungen des Zoologischen Staatsinstituts und Zoologischen Museums Hamburg 11. Teil!)

E-mail:[email protected] (Accepted December 21, 2009) Nelson Ferretti, Fernando Pérez-Miles, and Alda González (2010) Mygalomorph spiders of the Natural and Historical Reserve of Martín García Island, Río de la Plata River, Argentina. Zoological Studies 49(4): 481-491. Martín García I. is located in the upper La Plata River, at the outlet of the Uruguay River, northeastern Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Due to its status as a protected area, it is imperative to know the biological diversity that is intended to be preserved. Mygalomorph spiders have life-history characteristics that parallel general characteristics of well-studied taxa that are “extinction prone”, either at the population or species level. We analyzed the abundance and distribution in space and time of mygalomorph spiders at the specific level. We also offer some comments of distributional patterns in a geological context. Spider abundances were sampled from Mar. 2004 to Nov. 2006 by hand-capture and pitfall traps in 5 different ecological areas. To determine the habitat preference of the species, we used the Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA test. Species of the Mygalomorphae occurring on Martín García I., Actinopus sp. (Actinopodidae), Catumiri argentinense (Theraphosidae), Stenoterommata platensis (Nemesiidae), and Xenonemesia platensis (Microstigmatidae) were distributed among all habitats, with 1 specialist in only 1 habitat type.

Perez-Miles, F. and R . M . Capocasale . 1988 . Revision of the genus Pycnothele (Araneae, Nemesiidae) . J. Arachnol ., 16 :281-293 . REVISION OF THE GENUS PYCNOTHELE (ARANEAE, NEMESIIDAE ) Fernando Perez-Miles and Roberto M . Capocasale Instituto de Investigaciones Biologicas Clemente Establ e Division Zoologia Experimenta l Ave. Italia 3318, Montevideo, Uruguay ABSTRAC T On the basis of a character analysis, the genus Pycnothele and species attributed to Androthelopsis were revised and it was concluded that Pycnothele Chamberlin, 1917 = Androthelopsis Mello-Leitao, 1934 . The genus Pycnothele comprises three species that are redescribed and illustrated : Pycnothele auronitens (Keyserling, 1891) (=Androthelopsis modestus : Raven, 1985 (in part .) and Psalistop s auripilus Mello-Leitao, 1946 new synonyms); Pycnothele perdita Chamberlin, 1917 ; and Pycnothele singularis (Mello-Leitao, 1934) new combination (=Pycnothelopsis modestus Schiapelli & Gerschman , 1942 and Androthelopsis modestus : Raven, 1985 (in part) new synonyms) . Heteromma anomala Mello-Leitao, 1934, although it belongs to Pycnothele, is an uncertain species . A taxonomic key is included for species identification . INTRODUCTION Pycnothele was created by Chamberlin (1917) based on the type of Pycnothele perdita, from Brazil. This genus includes medium-sized species (usually 20 to 3 0 mm in body length) found only in South America (Argentina, Brazil an d Uruguay) . Schiapelli & Gerschman (1942) created the genus Pycnothelopsis and placed it together with Pycnothele in the family Pycnothelidae . These taxa were revised b y Mello-Leitao (1934, 1946), Schiapelli & Gerschman (1942), Schiapelli & G . de Pikelin (1965, 1967, 1971), Gerschman de Pikelin & Schiapelli (1970), Capocasal e & Perez-Miles (1979), Perez-Miles & Capocasale (1982, 1983) and Raven (1985) . Recently Raven (1985) has analyzed the infraorder Mygalomorphae, clarifying th e relationships of families .
