SLTOA: The only club in town with its own traffic ‘copter (“Looks like we’ve got a SIGALERT on the Garden Grove…”). Ed Note: Big thanks to Tom and Ann Stark for hosting the meet- ing at their home. The pre– and post-meeting meal discussions ran the usual fascinating gamut from cars and family to an evaluation of the F-111A T&E program and the 1968 Combat Lancer deployment to SEA (hey, we have more than a few aero- space types in SLTOA…). St Louis Triumph Owners Association Member, St Louis Sports Car Council Www.stlscc.org 3 VTR 2012, Galveston Island 28 October-1 November Relax and take a deep breath! The 2012 VTR National Convention at Galveston Island went well--really well. Our planning committee, headed by Don Carter, did an outstanding job span- ning well over one year. All that detailed planning and the frequent meetings really paid off. A big thank you to our core volunteers (you all know who you are) who have once again come to the rescue and made the Nationals such a success and enjoyable as possible. Even the weather cooperated to make Galveston Island a particularly enjoyable venue. We had a great turnout. The National is not just a few days at Galveston Island. A great deal of time was also spent by attendees getting ready for the event. Cars had to be restored, painted or partially painted and buffed, perhaps some body work or general tune up of me- chanicals. Our club volunteers and all attendees deserve credit for the quality of the show and the participation levels at all the events. If you were a first time attendee, perhaps you laid aside some of the initial fears and came away with new vigor and a determination to do even better next time. I certainly hope you enjoyed the event – John Barrett, President, Texas Triumph Register VTR by the numbers: 134 registrants, 130 cars (43 entered in the Participant’s Choice, 87 entered in the Concours), 225 guests at the awards banquet, 72 cars/92 driver in the auto- cross and 9 cars in the TSD. Weather for the event averaged lows of 53-65 and highs of 75-80. The Autocross was held on the south park- ing lot of the Schlitterbahn Waterpark on 1 No- vember. Members of the Houston Region SCCA planned and timed the event. The Concours (photos at left) took place on 31 October, Pier 21, Galveston Bay. Congrats! Chris and Kathy Kresser placed second in the TR3A early class, behind Frank Angelini – also with a ’59 TR3A – of Downingtown, PA, and ahead of Chuck and Lois Murphy, Carroll- ton, TX, also with a 1959 TR3A. Bob Jasper, Bellflower, CA, took Concours Best of Show, with his 1958 TR3A. Congrats also to our Arkansas buds Jim and Judy Wheeler (British Motoring Club of Arkan- sas), who placed second in the Spitfire cate- gory, Concours Participants’ Choice, with their ’74 Spit States represented: Texas (boy howdy!), Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Dela- ware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisi- ana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, North Caro- lina, Oklahoma, Virginia and Wisconsin.

  • Production Data 83
Production Data 83 Production Dates & Commission Numbers When ordering parts, it is essential that you identify your car exactly, by model year and serial number. Since many part changes were made during model years, the commission number, engine number and body number provide the only positive identification. Quite often a car’s title will not show the correct model year. Before ordering parts, please record the applicable numbers from your car. Using these numbers is the best way to ensure that you order and receive the correct parts. Wherever possible, we have listed part applications by commission number (e), body number (b) or gearbox (g). For more in formation on these numbers and years, see the production data below. • AC Cobra Series 4 Electric
AC Cobra Series 4 electric. Super stealthy. Super electric. Superblower. So does it have heritage, style, performance and total emission-free capability? Of course, it does – it’s the latest model in the rebirth of AC Cars. The AC Cobra Series 4 electric or ‘the AC Superblower updated for the new world’. The true close relation to this exciting new supercar, the AC Cobra Series 4 electric, is none other than the much-loved AC Cobra 378 Superblower MkIV, the launch of which was a famous stepping stone on AC’s road to recovery and revival. The new emission-free model will feature one of the strongest specification/performance combinations of any AC model’s heritage or on-the-road speed. AC has introduced a power system for a new age thanks to the services of its new Derby-based technical partner Falcon Electric (https://falconelectric.co.uk/). Falcon’s proud description of itself more than hints at its pedigree and ambition: “We are a hard-core technology company with the mission to make electric vehicles exciting. Passion and emotion drive us, electricity and innovation drive our vehicles”. Key points from the outline data sheet issued earlier today tell a story of growing affection for this remarkable car: 460 kW power, 1,000 Nm peak torque, 54 KWh battery pack, 0-62 mph in a quick 3.8 seconds, 200-mile range, and a gross weight of less than 1,190 kg. This light weighting process – an attribute applied by virtually every car-maker in the world – has enormous power.

The Factory Built, Le Mans Entry Ex - Hugus, Jopp, Miles, Olthoff, Hawkins, Schlesser 1963 AC Shelby Cobra Le Mans Coupe Chassis Number: CSX 2142 Registration Number: 645 CGT • The first of three Shelby Le Mans Coupes built by the AC Cars factory for the first Cobra Le Mans effort in 1963 where the Sunday Times sponsored team was managed by Stirling Moss with Carroll Shelby in attendance on behalf of the Ford Motor Company, and the brainchild of Shelby’s partner in imagining the Cobra concept, Ed Hugus. • Fitted with a special experimental highly modified Ford 289 V8 engine for Le Mans by Phil Remington and Shelby America on the insistence of the Ford Motor Company, unknown to Hugus at the time. • Taken over by John Willment to run the European competition Cobra operation for Shelby following Le Mans and tested with Ken Miles. CSX 2142 was entered for the 1963 RAC Tourist Trophy at Goodwood but failed scrutineering on the grounds of modifications. • Sold to Ford of France following a very successful South African tour with Willment. Driven by Jo Schlesser over the ’64 and ’65 seasons for Ford France taking victories along the way. • Restored in the ‘90s to Ford of France livery by Yvan Mahe before going back to Le Mans livery with Kevin Kivlochan in 2001 and then being further restored for Frank Sytner by Simon Hadfield Motorsport. • In the current ownership since 2009 and raced at the best historic events throughout Europe while being maintained at Pearsons Engineering throughout. Winner of the 2013 Tour Auto with the current owner and Gary Pearson, with other highlights including 4th overall in the RAC TT at the 2011 Goodwood Revival with Pearson and Jackie Oliver.

  • TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon the Triumph 1800-2000
TRIUMPH 1800-2000 Renown Saloon The Triumph 1800-2000 Saloon known as the “Razor Edge” due to its straight angular panels and sharp profile was built between 1946 and 1953. It was a post war car built to pre-war specifications i.e. a separate chassis, with the body built up as a traditional ash frame and styling that dated back to the late 1930’s. The sedan copied the Rolls Royce and Bentleys of the time in its styling, and was one of the first cars to be stretched to make a limousine, complete with glass partition behind the driver. Initially the vehicle was fitted with a 1776cc four-cylinder engine developing 65bhp which in 1948 was enlarged to 2088cc (still only producing 68bhp) and had a top speed of around 80mph. Late models had overdrive as an option on their 3-speed gearboxes and the Renown appeared as an upgraded 2000 Sedan in 1950. The car was not a commercial success however as despite its luxurious appointments, it was always too expensive, compared to its competition and in the British post-war ‘export or die’ atmosphere less than 10% of the total production of 15,400 were exported. TRIUMPH MAYFLOWER The Mayflower was introduced in 1949 and was Triumph’s first post war “small” car. The razor edge lines allowed excellent space utilisation enabling four adults to fit in with ease. It was one of the first cars to feature the “modern” trend of a large glass area, and the square boot handled a full compliment of luggage.
