Drinking Water Facts….. Drinking Water Treatment Systems By: Barbara Daniels and Nancy Mesner Revised December 2010 If your home water comes from a public water supply, it has been tested and meets EPA standards for drinking water. If you use a private well, however, you are responsible for assuring that the water is safe to drink. This means that you should periodically have your water tested, make sure your well is in proper condition without faulty well caps or seals, and identify and remove potential sources of con- tamination to your well such as leaking septic systems or surface contamination. With a private well, you are also responsible for any treatment your water may need if it contains harm- ful pollutants or contaminants that affect the taste, odor, corrosiveness or hardness of the water. This fact sheet discusses different types of water treatment systems available to homeowners. Addressing the source of the problem is often less costly in the long run than installing and maintaining a water system. For more information on identifying pollutant sources, problems with your well, or help in testing your well water, see the references at the end of this fact sheet. There are many types of water treatment systems available. No one type of treatment can address every water quality problem, so make sure you purchase the type of equipment that can effectively treat your particular water quality issue. The Introduction (Chapter 1) for these design data collection guidelines contains additional information concerning: preparing a design data collection request, design data collection requirements, and coordinating the design data collection and submittal. The following is a list of possible data required for specifications design of water treatment facilities. The size and complexity of the process system and structures should govern the amount and detail of the design data required. A. General Map Showing: (1) A key map locating the general map area within the State. (2) The plant site and other applicable construction areas. (3) Existing towns, highways, roads, railroads, public utilities (electric power, telephone lines, pipelines, etc.), streams, stream-gauging stations, canals, drainage channels. (4) Existing or potential areas or features having a bearing on the design, construction, operation, or management of the project feature such as: recreation areas; fish and wildlife areas; building areas; and areas of archeological, historical, and mining or paleontological interest. The locations of these features should bear the parenthetical reference to the agency most concerned: for example Reclamation. (5) County lines, township lines, range lines, and section lines. (6) Locations of construction access roads, permanent roads, and sites for required construction facilities. (7) Sources of natural construction materials and disposal areas for waste material, including the extent of mitigation required. (a) Location of disposal areas for debris, sediment, sludge, and spent chemicals from cleaning or storage solutions. (8) Water sources to be treated such as surface water or underground water. (9) Location of potential waste areas (i.e., channels). -

HOME ECONOMICS is the science of household management. It intervenes directly in the architecture of the home, responding to changes in life and social norms through the design of the everyday. HOME ECONOMICS asks urgent questions about the role of housing and domestic space in the material reality of familiar life. HOME ECONOMICS is a truly collaborative proposal challenging financial models, categories of ownership, forms of life, social and gender power relations. HOME ECONOMICS understands that in housing there can be no metaphors. Each model in Home Economics is a proposition driven by the conditions imposed on domestic life by varying periods of occupancy. They each address different facets of how we live today – from whether we can prevent property speculation, to whether sharing can be a form of luxury rather than a compromise. Home Economics presents five These models have been developed new models for domestic life curated in an intensely pragmatic way, through five periods of time. House Rules for Public Housing The House Rules (“Rules”) of the City of Chandler Housing and Redevelopment Division (the “City’s Housing Office”) are incorporated into the Lease by reference. Tenants agree to comply with the Rules, Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy (ACOP) and Lease. These Rules are reasonably related to the safety, care and cleanliness of the building, and the safety, comfort and convenience of the tenants. Failure to comply may lead to lease termination. I) CITY OF CHANDLER’S HOUSING RESPONSIBILITIES: A) These Rules will be applied fairly and uniformly to all tenants. B) City’s Housing staff and representatives/designees of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”) will inspect each unit at least annually to determine compliance with Uniform Physical Conditions Standards (“UPCS”). Upon completion of an inspection, Housing staff will inform the tenant the specific correction(s) required for unit compliance. If the first inspection finds areas of non-compliance, Housing staff will inform the tenant that training is available if needed for compliance. Housing staff will schedule a second inspection within a reasonable period of time. Failure of a second inspection constitutes a serious violation of the Lease. Housing staff has the right to inspect as many times as it deems necessary, with appropriate notice to the tenant. II) TENANT’S RESPONSIBILITIES: A) The tenant is required to abide by these Rules. Failure to abide by the Rules may result in termination of the Lease. B) OUTSIDE THE UNIT, the tenant must: 1) Keep the yard free of debris and trash. -

Background Due to Poor quality of water and presence of chemical/ bacteriological contamination, many water borne diseases are spread, which causes untold misery, and in several cases even death, thereby adversely affecting the socio-economic progress of the country . From an estimate by WaterAid, it has come out that these diseases negatively effect health and education in children, and further what is worse, 180 million man days approximately are lost in the working population to India every year. Water-related diseases put an economic burden on both the household and the nation’s economy. At household levels, the economic loss includes cost of medical treatment and wage loss during sickness. Loss of working days affects national productivity. -

Housing, home, and health NARRATIVES AND HEALTH EQUITY: EXPANDING THE CONVERSATION A home creates a place where a person can thrive, in the context of a loving family and a welcoming community. For example, housing stability is essential for the well-being of children, the physical condition of homes and the condition of neighborhoods have a direct impact on health, and stable housing helps create social cohesion. The emerging narrative on housing, home, and health helps convey important information about the many ways a place to call home connects to health. Who deserves a place to call home? 1. “Home” is a basic need of every person and every family. 2. Everyone deserves a place to call home, a place to be safe and welcomed, to grow, and to thrive. Everyone deserves a safe, stable home in which to care for one another and provide a place for healing and health. 3. “Place” includes not just “a roof over our heads” but our entire community—to belong includes belonging in a community. a. Healthy communities are places that are welcoming, safe, appealing, and have places to call home for every family. b. When communities thrive, the individual and families in the community are healthier. c. For health equity to be possible, all people and populations need to have access to safe and stable homes in welcoming and thriving communities. Why are homes important for the health of people? 4.
