ABSTRACT This thesis aims to understand how the communication about the car operates with emphasis on advertising discourse of the State and the automotive industry, showing the culture and power relations where the car is the object in the cultural, social, political and economic relations. This complex network of communication search disclose, inform, seduce, shock through speeches strategically put into circulation by the State and by the automotive industry, through approaches and separations where there are disputes, agreements, mutual intentions and contrary confuses what belongs to consumption and citizenship and their public and private aspects. In proposing these contradictions the citizen/consumer is put in constant dispute between interests and oscillates constantly between the seductive advertising industry that promises freedom, speed and status; and the State speech that promises punishments for any behavior contrary to the rules and warns and the speed can cause damage to life, while encouraging the consumption of this machine to develop the economy. The thesis structure follows five chapters that consist both the theoretical and methodological bases and the analysis of empirical
