Not content to stay stagnate, our Club Racing program continues to evolve. In 2011, we began the BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour program. With the help of our partner, BFGoodrich Tires, the series expanded to nine events for 2012, and included one special event in each division. These race weekends featured elements that aren’t always available at National Races, adding to the competitors’ experi- ence. We also unveiled the Majors program in the middle part of the coun- try this season, giving racers in the Rocky Mountain, Midwest and Southwest Divisions an opportunity to run for a larger championship without having to travel the country. We just may see a similar program across the country in 2013, so stay tuned. Add in our Performance Driving Experience, Time Trials and Driver School events and it makes for a packed schedule for our Regions, creating more opportunities for people to race across the country than any other organization. We’re back again for the 49th running of the SCCA National Championship Runoffs, the fourth year the event will be held at Road America. While we honor this year’s National Championships, we already have an eye on the milestone that next year’s 50th running will bring – so make your plans now to join us for the celebration. No matter what event you visit, each weekend brings a new story to be told. We thank you for your assistance in telling those stories. If you have any additional questions about SCCA Club Racing, you can always contact our Communications department for help. Thank you again for your support of SCCA Club Racing, and the entire Sports Car Club of America experience. I look forward to seeing you at the races, Jeff Dahnert SCCA President & CEO 2 2012 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide WHAT IS SCCA®? Sports Car Club of America, Inc. was founded 67 years ago by a group of amateur motorsports enthusiasts and today boasts nearly 45,000 members. SCCA now sanctions more than 2,000 amateur and professional motorsports events each year. With 114 regional chapters covering the entire United States, Guam and Puerto Rico, SCCA provides true grassroots participation and is the largest active motorsports membership organization in the world. Local events at nearby circuits remain the backbone of club activities. SCCA’s volunteer staff provides everything from course marshaling to timing and scoring, at both club and professional events. In addition to Club Racing, SCCA is the home to Pro Racing, RallyCross, Solo and RoadRally, all of which offer a wide variety of amateur and professional motorsports competitions. SCCA Enterprises, a wholly owned subsidiary of SCCA, constructs and maintains two cars, the venerable SCCA Spec Racer Ford, a single-seat sports racer that is one of Club Racing’s most popular classes, as well as the dual purpose Formula Enterprises/ Enterprises Sports Racer, now in its seventh year, with Formula Enterprises making its Runoffs debut in 2008. SCCA’s Club Racing program is designed to fulfill the need of the “amateur athlete.” It is a comprehensive, nationwide program featuring races held throughout the year that cater to the driver who perhaps prefers to test his or her skill on a part time basis, rather than compete full-time on SCCA’s professional circuits. Nevertheless, because the competition at the club level is so fierce, many professionals also participate in this program to further hone their skills and compete at SCCA’s National Championship Runoffs. The amateur road racing program is administered by SCCA’s Club Racing Department. A full staff of SCCA personnel handles the needs of the amateur race car driver, developing a full schedule of 240 Regional events, along with approximately 30 Driving Schools, 45 Performance Driving Experience events and another 70 National races. Club Racing is an integral part of SCCA. Nearly half of the membership is involved on the amateur level, either as drivers, crew, workers or officials. More than 8,000 SCCA members hold competition licenses allowing them to compete within SCCA’s Club Racing programs. 2012 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide 3 SCCA Club Racing National Staff President & CEO Jeff Dahnert Executive Assistant Aimee Thoennes Club Racing Terry Ozment - Vice President, Club Racing Butch Kummer - Director of Club Racing Deanna Flanagan - Club Racing Manager Janet Farwell - Club Racing Events Manager John Bauer - Technical Services Manager Ryan Miles - Technical Services Assistant Finance Rick Ehret - Vice President of Finance Mindi Atchison - Manager of Accounting & Human Resouces Member and Region Services Colan Arnold - Vice President, Membership & Region Services Michelle Lour - Member Services Manager Marketing and Communications Eric Prill - Vice President, Marketing & Communications Reece White - Public Releations Manager Melissa Flesher - Manager of Marketing Services Jenny McAbee - Marketing and Communications Specialist Rick Myers - Region Services Manager John Steflik - Creative Director 4 2012 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide SCCA Club Racing Style Guide First Usage: Sports Car Club of America SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® Second Usage: SCCA SCCA Runoffs Proper Capitalization: SCCA Club Racing SCCA Club Racer National Class Names (Abbreviations): American Sedan® (AS) Spec Racer® Ford (SRF) Spec Miata (SM) C Sports Racing (CSR) Sports 2000 (S2) D Sports Racing (DSR) Touring 1 (T1) E Production (EP) Touring 2 (T2) F Production (FP) Touring 3 (T3) H Production (HP) Super Touring® Over (STO) Formula Atlantic® (FA) Super Touring® Under (STU) Formula Continental® (FC) Super Touring® Lite (STL) Formula Mazda (FM) Formula F (FF) Showroom Stock B (SSB) Formula Vee® (FV) Showroom Stock C (SSC) Formula 500 (F500) Formula 1000 (FB) Formula Enterprises (FE) GT-1 (GT1) GT-2 (GT2) GT-3 (GT3) GT-Lite (GTL) 2012 SCCA® Club Racing Media Guide 5 BFGoodrich Tires In 2011, SCCA announced a multi-faceted part- nership with BFGoodrich® Tires naming BFGo- odrich Tires the “Official Street Tire” of SCCA and the title sponsor of the newly- formed SCCA Club Racing BFGoodrich Tires Super Tour.
