Complementa- ry to the Secretary General’s report, the report on the implementation of the fi nancial plan was the subject of deliberations of the meeting of the PAU Management Board and the Audit Committee and was unanimously accepted by these bodies. It also received a positive opin- ion of the statutory auditor, prepared by the PROFIN offi ce. General information The Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences corporation consists of 148 regular members, 168 corresponding members, and 185 foreign members. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the election took an atypical course. The fi nal vote, which is customarily held during PAU’s summer General Assembly, was conducted by correspondence. This election resulted in the selection of 9 regular members, 12 new corresponding members, and 12 foreign members. Diplomas to the newly elected PAU members will be presented at the next General Assembly, which will be held in the traditional form, i.e. after the ep- idemic threat has passed. 1 Polska Akademia Umiejętności. – 4 – In the reporting year the Academy suff ered particularly severe losses. Unfortunately, the ban on public meetings in force for most of the year caused this element of the Academy’s acti- vities to suff er a serious setback. Only 10 scientifi c sessions and con- ferences were organised; 3 of them were international. It is worth not- ing that all conferences were held on-line. A t this point it is also necessary to mention regular meetings co- ordinated by the PAU and open to the wider public: Science Café, Science Tea Room and “Conversations About Man” meetings or- ganised by Professor Dominika Dudek. All of the above meetings were held on-line. Moreover, in December 2020, a new bookmark was launched on the PAU’s Scientifi c Exchange Platform, entitled “PAU for Schools”. Short lectures intended for students and teachers of schools of all levels are presented on this bookmark. The fi rst paper, entitled COVID-19 News – Pandemic Waves in Europe and Hopes for Vaccines, was prepared by Professor Barbara Płytycz – the initiator of the entire project. Organisation of on-line meetings and the PAU Scientifi c Exchange Platform As mentioned earlier, in the reporting year most meetings, ses- sions and scientifi c sessions were held on-line. These meetings were organised by the PAU Offi ce with the help of ZOOM or TEAMS soft- ware. Lectures and papers presented during scientifi c meetings were recorded and then made available on the PAU Scientifi c Exchange Platform. This platform was launched in Q2 2020 and has become an extremely important element of the PAU’s activities. The launch of this modern way of communication was possible thanks to the com- mitment and cooperation of the employees of the Chancellery, the Publishing House and PAU’s IT specialists. Scientifi c activities In the reporting year a new PAU scientifi c unit was established – the Research Centre for Armenian Culture in Poland. The Centre is fi nanced from a separate grant of the Ministry of Science and Higher – 10 – Education in the PAU budget. The PAU Council appointed Andrzej Zięba, PhD as the Director of the Centre and Professor Krzysztof Stopka as the Chairman of the Scientifi c Council. The Centre current- ly employs 4 full-time researchers. Moreover, as in previous years, the PAU carried out research proj- ects (grants) fi nanced from external sources. In the reporting year 1 project was completed, 8 projects are in progress; 2 new applications have been submitted for evaluation.

AMAN SPECTROSCOPY OF THE WORKS OF SZYMON RCZECHOWICZ (1689-1775) Mirosław Sawczak Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences, Gdansk, Poland Ewa Doleżyńska-Sewerniak*1 Faculty of History, Department of the History of 20th Century Art in Central Europe and in Emigration, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Poland Keywords: painting materials analysis, authentication, Szymon Czechowicz, Ra- man spectroscopy 1. Introduction The Polish and the Ukrainian collections of Szymon Czechowicz’s works are the subject of this study. The artist (Figure 1) was born in Cracow in 1689 and made his first steps in the profession at the court of Maximilian Franz Ossoliński under the super- vision of an anonymous painter. Ossoliński perceived the talent of his pupil and sent him to continue his studies in Rome around 1711 where he spent around twenty years. In 1716 he took part in the prestigious Clementine competition of the Academy of Saint Luke. He won the third prize of the second grade in the painting category for the draw- ing entitled The victorious return from the war expedition. This enabled him to become acquainted with the paintings of artists such as Raphael, Reni, Baraccio, Rubens, van Dyck and others, whose pictures he copied. The best known and archivally certified work of the artist from this period is the image of Saint Jadwiga, made for the Polish church of Saint Stanisław in Rome. In the Eternal City, the artist also painted for other Polish churches; among them the Piarist church in Cracow and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the Cathedral in Kielce.

  • Tomasz Zieliński I Jego Zbiory
Irena Jakimowicz Tomasz Zieliński i jego zbiory Rocznik Muzeum Świętokrzyskiego 6, 239-389 1970 IRENA JAKIMOWICZ TOMASZ ZIELIŃSKI I JEGO ZBIORY Gdyby nam w Kielcach o Zielińskim mówić przyszło, dość byłoby pokazać mu zeum jego — a to najwymowniej opowiedziałoby wszystkie zasługi i niezmordowaną pracę zbieracza. [...]

• Patron Saints of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania According to the Liturgical Calendars of the Lithuanian Catholic Dioeceses
Patron Saints of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania According to the Liturgical Calendars of the Lithuanian Catholic Dioeceses Liudas Jovaiša Summary The paper is devoted to the history of the liturgical cult of the patron saints of Lithua- nia (both proper and common with the Kingdom of Poland) from the Late Medieval Ages to the early 21st century. The research is primarily based on the printed liturgical calendars which have been preserved from the 1st half of the 18th century. The first patron saints of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, St. George and St. Ni- cholas, must have chosen no later than in the 16th century, and in 1602 the cult of St Casimir, who subsequently became the main patron saint of Lithuania, was officially approved. After the successful reconquest of the city of Polatsk during the war with Moscow on August 30, 1579, the special feast of Sts. Felix and Adauctus was introduced into the calendars of Lithuanian dioceses of Vilnius and Žemaitija (Samogitiae vel Mednicensis). The Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which constituted a part of the Commonwealth of Two Nations since 1569, also inherited a numerous group of patron saints of the Polish Kingdom. Some of them (e. g., Bl. Josaphat Kuntsevych) were provided with the feasts which were of higher rank in Lithuania than in Poland. The cases of the common saints with a higher status in Poland, however, were much more numerous. The established tradition of the commemoration of the patron saints of Lithuania and Poland was more or less continued after the partitions of the Commonwealth of Two Nations, both in the old dioceses (of Vilnius and Žemaitija) and in the new ones.
