FLEET TOWN V STREET F.C FLEET TOWN v STREET F.C. Saturday December 29th 2018 – 3.00 P.M Evo-Stik League South Division 1 South Today’s Fleet Town ‘Man of the Match’ is Sponsored by Easi–Leaflets http://easi-leaflets.com SPONSORED BY WELCOME TO CALTHORPE PARK Good afternoon and welcome to Calthorpe Park the home of Fleet Town F.C. for today’s Evo- Stik League South Division 1 South fixture. In particular the Committee, Players, Management and supporters of our visitors Street who have travelled up from Somerset. Our Boxing Day fixture against Thatcham Town attracted our best home attendance of the season which was really pleasing. However the manner of our second successive 2-1 defeat of The Christmas Holiday was certainly not at all pleasing. Again we played very well and dictated nearly all the match but somehow ended up trying to save the game with only 9 players on the pitch. Unfortunately, at this level young teams like us who try to play football are continually being disadvantaged by naïve officials who are bullied in to handing out Red and Yellow cards for innocuous challenges by experienced ex-pros who do it as part of their game. Very disappointing and not at all in the spirit of Christmas ! Anyway enough said its now on to today’s game against Street. They have just come up to play in the Southern League for the first time in their long history having spent over 50 of their previous years in The Western League. They have made an excellent start as well and currently lie in 7th place with 28 points from the 17 games they have played. Street will present a tough test for us but one we will be really up for as we try to end the bad spell we are currently on. As today is our last home match of the year we would like to really thank our supporters especially ‘The Fleet Massiv’ who have been absolutely fantastic and stuck with us throughout what has been a fairly difficult one at times. You are all very much appreciated. Let’s hope 2019 will be a better one ! Happy New Year to you all and hopefully we will see all our home supporters back here next Saturday for the home league game against Highworth Town. ‘Come on you Blues ‘ Martin Griffiths ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CHAIRMAN: Alec Grant YOUTH TEAM MANAGER: Neil Selby VICE CHAIRMAN : Richard Whittington COMMITTEE MEMBERS: WEBSITE MANAGERS : Harry Cannon & Matt Thorne Alec Grant, Richard Whittington, CLUB WELFARE OFFICER : Chris Arnold Harry Cannon, Darren Edwards Nathan Cookson & Sam Waters CLUB SAFETY OFFICER : Lyn Bevan CLUB SECRETARY : Richard Whittington PROGRAMME EDITOR : Martin Griffiths HEAD OF FOOTBALL : Sam Waters CLUB SHOP MANAGER : Claire Whittington FIRST TEAM MANAGER : David Kelly HOSPITALITY : Carol Black ASSISTANT MANAGER : Tommy Taylor TEA BAR : Maria Horsenail FIRST TEAM COACH : Chris Neate GROUNDSMAN ; Bryan Smith SPORTS THERAPIST : Edward Hensby 01252 623804 www.fleettownfc.co.uk Fleet Town F.C. Founded in 1880, Street Football Club is one of the oldest clubs in Somerset and was christened with the nickname “The Cobblers” due to a large shoe making history in the area. The club’s early years were fairly successful, winning the Somerset Senior League on four occasions before the end of the century, the first time being the 1882/83 season. The club also had early success in the Somerset Senior Cup as they lifted the trophy in 1898 and again 2 years later. After winning the Somerset Senior League again in 1909/10, and the Somerset Senior Cup the following year, the club made the decision to join the Western League. With the Western League being put on hold in 1914 due to WW1, Street re-joined the league at the start of season 1919/20 in division 2. Unfortunately, the division was disbanded three years later so the club rejoined the Somerset Senior League, where they remained for the next eight years before re-joining the Western League for the 1930/31 season. The first season back in division 2 was none too successful, finishing 16th out of 17, but two years later Street were runners-up to Swindon Town Reserves - a feat they repeated in 1938 when finishing 2nd behind Weymouth - but in those days there was no automatic promotion from division 2 into division 1.

It’s nearly the end of September and we’ve still only played two league games due to one match being abandoned, another being postponed and having only one midweek league game despite the good weather and last season’s fixture pile up.

The club was established in 1890 as Newquay Football Club, but did not play any competitive games until entering the Cornwall Senior Cup in 1896–97. They were renamed Newquay One and All in 1903 and went on to win the Cornwall Charity Shield in 1906–07. After folding in 1912, the club was re-established as Newquay Rovers in 1920. The new club joined the Plymouth & District League, but left in 1927 due to the cost of travelling. In 1931 they were founder members of the Cornwall Senior League, going on to win the league and the Cornwall Senior Cup in 1934–35. However, the club disbanded in 1937. The current incarnation of the club was formed in 1946, rejoining the Cornwall Senior League. In 1951 they were founder members of the South Western League. They won the Cornwall Senior Cup in 1952– 53, 1954–55 and 1956–57, before finishing as runners-up in the South Western League in 1957–58. They were league champions the following season and retained the title in 1959–60. The club won the league again in 1977–78, 1979–80, 1981–82 and 1983–84, before finishing as runners-up in 1984–85. They were South Western League champions for a seventh time in 1987–88 and finished as runners-up in 1991– 92,as well as winning the Cornwall Senior Cup. They finished second in the league again in 1993–94. In 2007 the South Western League merged with the Devon County League to form the South West Penin- sula League, with Newquay placed in Division One West.

100Celebrating the centenary of the Old Patesians RFC 1912/13 – 2012/13 “100 years of continuous rugby” 10 0 Celebrating the centenary of the Old Patesians RFC 1912/13 – 2012/13 100 Celebrating the centenary of the Old Patesians RFC 1912/13 – 2012/13 “100 years of continuous rugby” FOREWORD It is an honour to introduce this history. It answers the question in our school song: “Where are the men that have gone before us?” The research that has gone into this book tells you a lot about the Old Pats. The accuracy of our history is important to us, because we were taught well at the school that many of us shared and because we cherish the memories of those who are no longer with us. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants. This history is about matches, cups and promotions, and occasionally upsets. Above all, it’s about team-mates and friendships; people from all sorts of backgrounds sharing a love of rugby, to whom being a Pat means more than most things for 80 minutes each week. My playing contribution to the Old Pats was brief: summoned from the school 2nd XV by Ray Kingscott in 1976 to play for the Vipers under the leadership of Phill Bevins; the next season, playing for the 2nd XV under Roger Dagley in a side that got to the Junior Combination Cup Final; the season after that, advancing to the 1st XV under Bob Lees – another lost cup final, but, crucially, qualification for the County Cup and silverware in the Combination sevens.

  • Keynsham Town Vs Bradford Town
KEYNSHAM TOWN FC Good evening all , This evening we extend a warm welcome to the players, club officials and supporters from Bradford Town. Always a tough side to do battle with and tonight will be no exception. We also welcome our match officials to Crown Fields, referee Adam Wilson and his 2 assistants, Valentin Pomfret & Luke Hulbert. It seems a long time ago that I last put pen to paper in preparation for our game with Cadbury Heath. Since recording a great result on that occasion we have been on the road to Buckland, where we narrowly lost in a game in which we probably should have come away with something. Another long trip to Bodmin in the FA Vase and back to league action away at Hallen a week ago today which ended in a draw. The Bodmin game was a thriller! At two down after 35 minutes or so it was looking like it was going to be an uphill struggle, but somehow Nathan managed to steer one in just before half time with his unfavoured right foot and goals in the second half from Browner and Jack gave us a memorable win . I thought that the football we played in the first half at home to Cadbury and in the second half at Bodmin was outstanding and if we can reproduce that with more consistency we are going to cause teams a few headaches. It is great to see crowds flooding back to our level of football. At Keynsham we are learning as every game passes and making adjustments to ensure that your visit to the AJN Stadium is as safe and enjoyable as possible.
