A NOTE OF EXPLANATION The title of this paper promises more than I have it in my power to fulfil. It has seemed best, therefore, to begin with a brief explanatory statement. An investigation of the international financial and economic relations of China is now being carried on. It will extend over a number of years, in cludes a visit to China on my part, and is planned to cover the whole of a wide and difficult subject. In the work of this investigation it has fallen to me to deal with American investments in China. After a brief survey of the situation the conclusion was forced upon me that I would be obliged to undertake a new and inde pendent study. A considerable amount of work has been done on this new study, but it is impossible to say whether it will be successfully completed, since its success depends, in large measure, upon its inclusiveness. -

There has been a historical assumption that, starting with the hostilities in 1931, the Japanese were maligned in American public opinion. Consequently, the assumption has been made that Americans supported the Chinese without reserve during their conflict with Japan in the 1930s. -

As indicated by its subtitle, this CC:INFO product is a directory of delegates and observers having attended the second or third sessions of the Conference of the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, or any of its subsidiary body meetings in between (COP2-COP3). This Who is Who was developed to provide those involved in the Climate Change process with a single, easy-to-use document, enabling them to renew or establish contact with each other. The Who is Who provides the title and contact information (e.g., institutional and e-mail addresses, direct telephone and fax numbers, etc…) for each individual, as provided to the secretariat during conference registration. Some of this information is now no longer valid, due to, e.g., new professional reassignments, including in some cases to the Climate Change Secretariat. -

Sung Kim By Andy Lim Who is he? Sung Kim recently became the new Special Representative for North Korea Policy and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Korea and Japan on November 2014. Previously he served as the Ambassador of the United States to the Republic of Korea from November 2011 to August of 2014, where he became the first Korean-American ever to serve in that position. At the end of his tenure in the ROK, he received the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit Medal (Gwanghwa Medal) from President Park Geun-hye and an honorary citizenship from Seoul in recognition of his services to improving bilateral ties between the U.S. and the ROK. A career foreign service officer, he was appointed the Special Envoy for the Six-Party Talks in July 2008 with the rank of Ambassador. During his career, he has served as the head of the Department of State’s Office of Korean Affairs (2006-2008), the Political-Military Unit Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul (2002-2006), a Political Officer in Tokyo (1999-2002), as well as assignments in Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. His assignments in Washington included serving as a desk officer in the Office of Chinese Affairs, and as a Staff Assistant in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs. Before his diplomatic career, he worked as a public prosecutor in the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Ambassador Kim moved to Los Angeles when he was young. He received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, a J.D. -

In her excellent new book,American Exodus, Baruch College history professor Charlotte Brooks examines the transnational lives these Chinese American emigrants led in China. Drawing on archival records, periodicals, and document compilations from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the United States, Brooks argues that Chinese American citizen immigrants, “although fully welcome in neither China nor America,” still influenced Sino-American relations, China’s society and economy, and the US government’s approach to citizenship and immigration (p. 5). Brooks meticulously documents the racism that drove thousands of Chinese American citizens to move to Asia in search of better lives. Some 1,300 Chinese American citizens left the country for Asia each year during the first decade-and-a-half of the twentieth century out of a population that stood at around 90,000 in 1900 (p. 3). -

We conducted semi-structured, in-depth interviews with four well- known CEOs in Thailand who utilize social media for organizational purposes and are themselves social media icons. For manufacturing sector, we interviewed Mr. Tan Passakornnatee, CEO of Ichitan Group, and Mr. Nuttanun Puntuwong, Ichitan Group’s Deputy Director of Online Marketing and Management Information System. For service sector, we interviewed Mr. Apitha Wonlopsiri, Chief Communications Officer of Enconcept English School. For non-profit organization, we interviewed U.S. Ambassador Kristie A. Kenney. For SME, we interviewed Mrs. Jongjai Gidsawang, the owner of famous fried pork shop from SME Tee-Tak television program in Thailand. INTRODUCTION The growth rate of social networks users compared to the same period a year ago (1April 2012 – 1April 2013) found that Facebook has a 24% growth, while Twitter has a growth of 53%. More impressively, YouTube has a 125% growth and Instagram has an amazing 178% growth (Zocial Rank, 2013). Interestingly, the viral diffusion of information through social media has a far greater capacity to reach the public than traditional media (Keller, 2009).
