TH class of 1969 50REUNION Claremont McKenna College FROM 1969 TO 2019 April 2019 Members of the Dear Classmates, 50th Reunion Committee Herewith is the reward for your gracious replies to our relentless pleas to fill Class of 1969 out the Reunion Memory Book questionnaire. 72 of you responded prior to the February 1 deadline (a couple of responses post deadline are included in the supplemental pages). Robert Bly To put this number in perspective, there were 142 in our graduating class. Pearson Cotton As noted in earlier missives, 28 of our brothers are no longer with us, leaving 114 potential respondees (contrived, clinical social science term). So, well over Steve Frates, co-chair 50% of you answered the call. Good show, gentlemen, good show indeed. Gene Hewett In addition to your individual responses, the Memory Book contains a class directory, obituaries for deceased classmates, a list of classmates for whom Douglas Montgomery we simply have no contact information (if you have a line on any of these classmates, please let us know) and a photo collage including both current and Alan Thompson vintage campus pics. If, per chance, you have not yet registered for our reunion, please do so Chris Walker, co-chair now. You should have received a reservation form in the mail, but if not go online to https://online.cmc.edu/alumni-weekend. We kick things off with an informal reception Thursday evening, April 25 and wrap up the festivities Sunday morning, April 28. If you are pressed for time, prioritize Saturday, April 27. There is the annual Golden Medallion awards luncheon (everyone gets a medal) and the class photo is taken afterwards. There is also a morning session with the Registrar’s Office (a nod to Katie Lowe) comparing the current course requirements to those from our day (this ought to be interesting!). On Friday, there is a session with the President about freedom of speech at CMC. In the spirit of our late 60’s youth, we just might decide to take a class position on either or both of these issues. Saturday is capped off with the class dinner at the Athenaeum. We look forward to seeing you soon! Sincerely, Steve Frates, Co-Chair Chris Walker, Co-Chair Ricardo Quinones P’88 1935–2019 Scholar, Professor, Friend, Mentor, Colleague, Renaissance Man The Class of 1969 memory book is dedicated to Emeritus Professor Ricardo Quinones who served as a member of the CMC faculty from 1963 to 2002 and as the founding director of the Gould Center for Humanistic Studies.
