JIM JACOBS (Book, Music and Lyrics). Jacobs, who created Grease (in 1970) with Warren Casey, was born and raised on the mean streets of Chicago’s far northwest side. During the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll (1956-1960) he was a guitar-playing “greaser” student at Taft High School. In 1963, Jacobs met Warren Casey when they were both cast in a local theatre production of A Shot in the Dark. Seven years later they wrote what was to become one of the greatest musicals of all time. Grease opened in 1971 in a former trolley barn called the Kingston Mines Theatre in Chicago. A year later, Grease made it to Broadway and “Greasemania” took off, resulting in one of the longest running shows in Broadway history. The 1978 movie became and remains the highest grossing movie musical of all time. Originally an actor, Jacobs has been seen on television, in motion pictures, regional theatre, national tours, and on Broadway. He is the co-author of several other plays and musicals including Island of Lost Coeds, a musical spoof of the low budget sci-fi/horror/jungle movies of the 1950s, which he wrote with Warren Casey. In May 2014, Mr. Jacobs was presented with an honorary doctorate degree from Columbia College in Chicago. He currently resides in Southern California and remains active in the theatre, especially with the American Theatre Company of Chicago.

WARREN CASEY (Author, Composer and Lyricist) was born in Yonkers, New York, and attended Syracuse University. During the late ‘50s, he learned all about “greasers” while working as an art teacher in upstate New York. He moved to Chicago in 1962, where he hoped to pursue an acting career. He appeared in dozens of productions, including creating the role of Bernie Litko in David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago. He supported himself with jobs in retail, including working as an assistant manager of a chain of apparel stores, and as a record salesman. In the meantime, he taught himself how to play the guitar and began writing songs. Mr. Casey acted with the Chicago Stage Guild (where he met Jim Jacobs), the Old Town Players, and the Kinston Mines Theatre. The latter company staged the original production of GREASE which he wrote with Jim Jacobs. After the incredible success of both the musical and the movie, the two collaborated on Island of Lost Coeds, a musical satire of the B-movies of the 1950s. Mr. Casey died in 1988.

Cecilia Bailey- Betty Jane/Reynolds Sisters & Ensemble (1-yr. member) Cecilia loves to sing at school for General and Select Choirs. Cecilia is also currently taking voice lessons with Kim Russell and also takes piano lessons from Bob Morris. She would like to thank everyone who has supported her music career. Most importantly, she would like to thank her mother and grandmother for making her dreams possible.

Andrew Birchler – Doody (3-yr. member) Chip (Beauty and the Beast) & Brit twin/Ensemble (The Music Man) Andrew has enjoyed being in the musical all 3 years of middle school. He would like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, Miss Emily, Mr. Shafer, & Salerno for making all the shows so great. He’d also like to thank Mr. Byrne for teaching him how to play guitar. He’ll always remember all the friends he made, and the fun he had – especially the 6 hour Saturday rehearsals! He hopes to continue acting in the high school productions. Charlotte Borger – Patty Simcox and Dance Captain (3- yr. member) Wolf & Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) & Ensemble, Featured Dancer (The Music Man) Charlotte is thrilled to play such a fun part in her third show with GVMSTC. She would like to thank Miss Emily for all of her great choreography, Mrs. Byrne for always having a positive spirit, Mr. Shafer for his help closer to show week, and Mr. and Mrs. Search for organizing the entire show. Anna Carter - Rydell High Seniors & Ensemble (3 - yr. member) Townspeople/Enchanged Servents(Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kids/ Ensemble (The Music Man) Anna is very happy to have been in the musicals all 3 years for the GVMSTC. It has been an amazing experience and she is excited to participate in the GVHS shows. She would like to thank the directors for providing this awesome show and her family and friends for supporting her in all 3 shows at the middle school.

Zoe Chasinoff –Rydell High Student Council President & Ensemble (3-yr. member) Lady with Cane (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid (The Music Man) This is Zoe's third year taking part in the GVMSTC and her love of musical theater has grown more and more each year. She is so thankful for the production staff and all the others. She is excited to be able to participate in GVHS Drama Guild. Anthony Cristinzio - Vince Fontaine (3-yr. member) Townspeople Shepherd Men / Enchanted Servants & Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kids / Ensemble (The Music Man) Anthony is excited to perform in the GVMSTC's production, Grease, as Vince Fontaine. He would like to thank Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Miss Emily, Mrs. Byrne and Mr. Shafer for their hard work and dedication to all the shows. Cameron DeTulleo – Danny Zuko (3-yr. member) Lefou (Beauty and the Beast) & Winthrop (The Music Man) Cameron is very excited for his role as Danny Zuko in this year’s musical of Grease. Cameron will miss performing for GVMSTC, but is eager to move onto the high school. He would like to thank Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, and Miss Emily for their hard work and dedication to the show. Morgan Devine - Burger Palace Doll & Ensemble (3-yr. member) Featured Enchanted Servant & Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid & Featured Dancer (The Music Man) Morgan is excited to be in this year's show Grease! Natalie would also like to thank her carpool that took her back and forth to every single rehearsal! Mollie Goldman – Jan (3-yr. member) Narrator 3 (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid (The Music Man) Mollie is thrilled to play the part of Jan! She loves performing in GVMSTC and is looking forward to participating in the talented GVHS Drama Guild. Mollie would like to thank all of the parent volunteers for their hard work and making the show the best it could be. She would also like to thank the production team for their hard work and dedication to the show. Mollie would like to throw out a huge thanks to the Pink Ladies. Will Hetzel- Tech & Stage Crew (3-yr. member) Stage Crew (The Music Man & Beauty and the Beast) Will has been part of the stage crew for The Music Man, Beauty and the Beast, and now Grease. He would like to thank Mr. Salerno, Mr. Baker, and Mr. Shafer for helping him learn all the technology associated with the show. Samantha Horvath – Sandy Dumbrowski (3-yr. member) Silly Girl (Beauty and the Beast) & Gracie Shinn/Ensemble (The Music Man) Samantha is both honored and thrilled to play the role of Sandy! Samantha has loved being a part of the GVMSTC and is also very excited to work with the talented HS Drama Guild. She would like to the amazing production staff for giving so much time and talent to each production. Samantha also wants to give a special thanks to the crew, pit, the parent volunteers, voice teachers, Mr. Goldman for all the amazing photos, and Mrs. Goldman for her hard work on so many costumes (including Sandy's). Evelyn House-Kelly - Rydell High Senior/Ensemble(3-yr. member) Town Person/Enchanted Silverware (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid/ Ensemble(The Music Man) Being in the musical has been one of her favorite parts of middle school. Some of her other favorite parts of middle school have been ski club, art class, band, jazz band, envirothon, and lunch – when we get to sit with our friends. Special thanks to my parents for supporting me in all of these activities – especially the driving!

Pooja Jain – Betty Rizzo (3- yr. member) Egg Seller & Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid & Ensemble (The Music Man) Pooja has been with the GVMSTC for 3 years now, and has loved every part of it. She wants to thank Mrs. Byrne, Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Miss. Emily, and Mr. Shafer for managing to make each rehearsal fun, while always working towards the goal of the big show. She knows that she will continue doing theater in high school and hopes others will join in on the never-ending fun.

Sydney Koromaus – Rydell High School Senior (3-yr. member) Townspeople Adults, Enchanted Servants & Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid/ Ensemble(The Music Man) Sydney has been in The Music Man, Beauty and the Beast and now Grease. Maya Leibowitz - Debbie Snyder (3-yr. member) Tabouret/Tab (Beauty and the Beast & Brit twin/Ensemble (The Music Man) Maya Leibowitz is THRILLED to be in the cast of Grease this year. She has previously taken part in The Music Man and Beauty and the Beast. She gives a big thanks to the cast, crew, and the volunteers for putting their best work into this amazing show.

Sean Lock - Jonny Casino (3-yr. member) Beast (Beauty and the Beast) & Conductor (The Music Man) Sean has had an amazing time participating in the GVMSTC! Sean would like to thank his friends and family for inspiring him to participate in these productions. He extends a very special thanks to Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, Miss. Emily, and everybody who helped make Grease possible! Enjoy the show.

Ava Matty - The Reynolds & Ensemble (2-yr. member) Silly Girl (Beauty and the Beast) Ava is a Reynolds sister in this year's musical production of Grease and is really excited that she was able to do the show! She will miss everyone in the GVMSTC but is excited to go to the high school next year! Ava would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Search for all of their hard work and effort in the last two musicals she has been in. She would also like to thank Mrs. Byrne, Miss Emily, and all other parent volunteers and staff for all their help. Ava has had so much fun performing in these musicals and would like to wish everyone in the cast and crew good luck!

Camryn McCarthy -Rydell High Senior & Ensemble (3-yr. member) Stage Crew (The Music Man), Townspeople Adult (Beauty and the Beast) Camryn McCarthy started in the GVMSTC as stage crew for The Music Man. She then became a member of the cast in Beauty and the Beast, and now Grease. She would like to thank Mr. Search for making every show so fun and amazing to be a part of. She is also very proud of her friends and other cast members for making the show a wonderful experience to be a part of and watch. Break a leg everyone!!

Corrine Moscariello - Rydell High Senior/Ensemble(2-yr. member) Ensemble/Town Person (Beauty and the Beast) Corinne Moscariello has been in the GVMSTC for two years, she enjoys being around her friends, having fun, and performing in a great show. She would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Search for all their help in producing a great musical, without their guidance the show wouldn’t have been possible. She is excited to go to high school and perform in plays and musicals with her friends.

Kelly Murray-Tech & Stage Crew (3-yr. member) Kelly is enjoying her time in the GVMSTC and being a part of the stage crew team. This is Kelly’s 4th year doing stage crew for the district. She worked on the crew team for The Music Man and Beauty and the Beast, and loves Grease!! Kelly would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Search for running such an organized and fun musical group, her parents for their support, and she would especially like to thank her brother Michael John for getting her interested in sound and lighting and teaching her all she knows. Matthew Paolella - Kenickie (3-yr. member) Maurice (Beauty and the Beast) and Constable Locke (The Music Man) Matthew is thrilled to be a part of Grease this year. He has had a blast these 3 years with the GVMSTC and will miss everyone when he moves on to the high school. He would like to thank, Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, Miss. Emily, Mr. Shafer, his family and his friends who have encouraged him along the way. Katie Pendergast - Frenchy (3-yr. member) Ensemble(Music Man) and Silly Girl(Beauty and the Beast) Katie has been in the past 2 shows at GVMS and she is very excited for this third and final one! Katie would like to thank Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, and Ms. Emily for their fantastic direction through every show. Katie is sad this is her last show but can’t wait to perform in the high school shows. She would also like to say to all cast and crew that she hopes to see them “shake’n at the high school hop!”

Elana Pikounis - Annette Reynolds (3-yr. member) Gargoyle/Featured Dancer (Beauty and the Beast), Ensemble (The Music Man) Elana has loved being a part of this amazing cast! For 3 years each show has been a new exciting experience and she will miss this cast and crew a lot when she goes on to the high school. She will always remember all of the talented people that made these shows happen. When she looks back on this experience she will think of all of the friends she made and the great environments the adults created for all of us. Everyone break a leg!

Jazmin Ramirez - Rydell High Senior & Ensemble (2-yr. member) Townspeople Adults/Enchanted Servants & Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) Jazmin Ramirez has been a cast member for Beauty and the Beast and Grease. She would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, Mr. Shafer and Miss Emily for all of their help and dedication. She hopes she and her friends can all be in on the GVHS plays next year. She hopes we have a great show!

Sadie Schrader - Marty (2-yr. member) Silly Girl (Beauty and the Beast) Sadie has been a Silly Girl in Beauty and the Beast and is so excited to be Marty in Grease! She would like to thank all of her friends that have participated in the musicals with her, Mr. & Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, and Miss Emily for all the hard work that they put into the musicals every year. She would also like to thank her family for being so loving and supportive! She is very sad to leave the GVMSTC, but she is very excited to be a part of the shows at the high school! Nicholas Shah -Roger (3- yr. member) Gaston’s Cronies (Beauty and the Beast) & Constable Key (The Music Man) Nicholas has been in The Music Man, Beauty and the Beast and now Grease. Keegan Stewart- Miss Lynch (3- yr. member) Traveling Salesman (The Music Man) & Fish Monger (Beauty and the Beast) Keegan Stewart has been part of the GVMSTC for three years. She would like to thank the production staff for directing middle schoolers and teaching all of them what it means to be part of a team. Keegan would especially like to acknowledge her terrific family for supporting her 24/7 (and for driving her when the walks to rehearsal were a little too crisp!) She is thrilled to spend her 8th grade year surrounded by an amazing cast and crew. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful 3 years! Break a leg!

Lili Tomcavage - Rydell Ringtail Cheerleader & Ensemble (3-yr. member) Egg Seller/ Ensemble (Beauty and the Beast) & River City Kid/ Ensemble (The Music Man) She has loved performing all three years and being part of GVMSTC. She will miss everyone in GVMS when she moves on to the high school. She would like to thank Miss. Emily and Mrs. Byrne for helping the cast perfect our songs to make us sound well. Mrs. Search for organizing costumes and props along with all the other people behind the scenes. Mr. Shafer for sound. Most of all, Lili would like to thank Mr. Search for making this all happen. Michaela Tseng - Rydell High Senior (1-yr. member) This is Michaela’s first year in the GVMSTC. She would like to thank Mr. Search, Mrs. Search, Mrs. Byrne, Miss Emily, parent volunteers, and her fellow cast and crew for their hard work. She enjoyed rehearsing and spending time with old and new friends. She is also glad that Grease is her first musical because it is so much fun to be a part of! Good luck to everyone!

Director’s Note On Grease… A cornerstone philosophy of our GVMSTC is to provide students the opportunity to perform and experience standard musical theater repertoire…in other words, to learn from “the classics”. “Grease…a classic?” you ask. The performance you are about to watch is a professionally adapted School Version of the original 1971 Broadway musical, with songs added from the 1978 movie and then re-interpreted in the 2016 live version presented on NBC. …whew! What does this all mean? The simple answer is that Grease is the word! The songs, characters and scenes that you know are all here…and a few you may not know but are sure to enjoy. But when you take a moment to look just a bit deeper… Grease appears on Playbill.com’s top 20 list of all time produced High School and Middle School shows. And it’s second only to Bye Bye Birdie when considering Rock & Roll themed shows. Why? The songs are great; the energy is infectious and the show is a top-notch entertainment experience. The bottom line is that Grease is FUN and it invites you to jump into Greased Lightning and come along for the ride. Please feel free to join in, clap, sing along and take a nostalgic romp through the 50’s and, perhaps more importantly, through the history of this amazing show itself.
