Principal: Ms. Lee Ann Stacey Vice Principal: Mr. Guy Aucoin Administrative Assistants:: Mrs. Brenda MacLean & Mrs. Vicki Choisnet BUS PASSES Students MUST have a written parental permission note with the civic address where the student will be dropped off to receive a bus pass from the office if they are plan- ning to change busses after school. Parents may write a note in the agenda or send a note but must include the civic address and name of person where the student is to be dropped off. Requests for grade 7 & 8 must be submitted before O’Canada in the morning. Bus passes are considered “courtesy bussing” so please keep in mind students who regularly travel home on a particular bus have seating ahead of those with bus passes. Busses that are full cannot accept a bus pass and at present time we have several busses that we are unable to issue bus passes for. It is very important that parents/guardians ensure that their child knows where they are going after school if this is a change from their regular bus. We must know in the morning so we can issue the pass for the correct bus and ensure that the bus driver knows where to drop off the student. Students who must leave the school for an appointment or who are ill, must come to the office to sign out before leaving the school. Students should not contact home with cell phones, they must come to the office first. Students arriving late must come to the office to receive a late slip and sign in before proceeding to class. “Text Message cannot be accepted as communication between the school and parent/guardian.” Please Note - Bus Numbers and drivers periodically change. Arrangements for bus passes/alternate stops must be made in the morning. A written request from parents must be presented to the office first thing in the morning, this includes the bus number and the civic address, where the student will be dropped off at. We do understand that occasionally unavoidable circumstances do arise and you will find it necessary to send your child home on a different bus. When this happens we must know by 1:00pm as to ensure there is sufficient time to make these arrangements for your child (again, this only applies if bus passes are permitted for that particular bus) Permission for bus passes is dependent on there being room available on the bus. Pictou County Rivers Association to Hold 12th Annual Ice-Fishing Derby The Pictou County Rivers Association will hold its 12th Annual Ice-Fishing Derby at Gairloch Lake on Saturday, February 16, 2019, Sunday Feb 17 in case of poor weather conditions. Participants can expect to catch brook trout and rainbow trout through the ice. The daily bag limit for speckled and rainbow trout is two (2) fish. “Ice fishing is an enjoyable way to spend the day with family, weather you are experienced or it is your first time wetting a line, you will have fun on this lake,” says Alfred White, Jr., President of the Pictou County Rivers Association. “Rubber boots and warm clothes are recommended and everyone should bring a lawn chair or a portable ice shack to sit in while waiting for the fish to bite.” Since 2010 we have had over 100 participants each year, it is growing each year lucking out with some good weather on our side with some recent years having close to 200 folks on the lake. The most popular baits used during last year’s derby were Powerbaits, available at most sporting goods stores. The Derby will start at 9:00am and run until noon. Prizes will be awarded to adults and children for the largest trout caught. As well, all participants will be eligible for draw prizes. The PCRA will be providing free hot and cold drinks, hot dogs and snacks for all Derby participants. The holiday weekend of February is the free-fishing weekend in Nova Scotia and Derby participants will not require a Nova Scotia fishing license to participate. All other fishing regulations will apply. If the weather is stormy on Saturday, the PCRA will try to hold the event on Sunday, February 17th. There will be a registration fee of $5.00 for adults and teenagers and children 12 and under can participate for free. The Pictou County Rivers Association was formed in 1990 by a dedicated group of conservation minded anglers and outdoor enthusi- asts. For the past 29 years, the membership-based organization has focused its efforts on conservation initiatives, protecting and re- storing fish habitat, education and environmental stewardship.
