The R 936 is equipped with a new Liebherr 170 kW (231 hp) engine with higher power and new equipment for maximum pull-out and excavation forces for a significant improvement in productivity.

The Flailbot on display at the Colvoy booth got a lot of attention; the remote-controlled track mower from Bomford Turner is designed for steeply inclined and challenging terrains, capable of working at slopes up to 55 degrees.

Creighton Rock Drill increased their presence again and showed even more of their diverse product offerings. Above, Bryan Hoffman and Steve Crawford stand amongst some Pengo augers. Pengo is the largest manufacturer of augers and related wear parts in the world, serving the utility, construction, agriculture, foundation, and major worldwide original equipment customers. Creighton Rock Drill hosted a party on the first night of the show to celebrate the company turning 50 years old.

Flo Components Ltd. displayed two new products, which deserve serious consideration. The first is the TrailerCam—a removable, wireless, rechargeable battery operated camera that can be placed using strong, rugged magnets on the side or rear of any truck, trailer, or equipment. It can be placed up to 30 metres (100 feet) from its display monitor, and can communicate high-quality video images and audio with zero latency or interference. The TrailerCam is waterproof, dustproof, and rugged. The other product on display at the Flo Components booth is the QuickFit On-board Oil Change System. According to Flo’s Marketing Specialist, Gabriel Lopez (in picture): “The patented QuickFit system allows you to service most machines At the Powerscreen booth, (left to right) Peter Hamilton, Brian Farmer, Barry Farmer, Brendan O’Neill, and Alan Haines in less than 30 minutes, from a single ground-level, connection. You save time, without risking unnecessary injury or stand in front of the Powerscreen Trakpactor 320SR— a mid-sized horizontal impact crusher designed to offer oper- environmental fines.” The QuickFit system incorporates the PERT process to: 1) Purge the filters with compressed air; ators and contractors both excellent reduction and high consistency of product shape for performance in quarry and 2) Evacuate the sump directly to the final waste container; 3) Refill the engine via its new filters and 4) Timestamp the recycling applications. The 320SR features a screen and recirculating (SR) conveyor which returns oversized product service to automatically document the maintenance event. to the crusher for further reduction. Type design notes here. Kinshofer displayed several excavator attachment solutions including one of their DRS mobile shears and their NOX series tiltrotators. The Kinshofer DRS mobile shears series with 360-degree rotation can be used for a wide variety of jobs including concrete and steel construction demolition, scrap yards, conditioning of industrial mixed scrap, and even processing steel-reinforced concrete. The company’s NOX tiltrotators are a cylinderless solution with a very compact design without any protruding parts. There are only two greasing points and less wear parts for decreased maintenance. The patented tilting function is provided by the elliptic piston design with only one thread. Due to the closed system, the risks of damages are reduced and the tilting force is constant. Ben Eagle, Mike Coutts and Rob Daly of Enduraquip stand next to a LeeBoy 8515C. This conveyor-style asphalt paver is tailored to commercial and mainline asphalt paving applications with paving widths of 2.44 to 4.57 metres (8 to 15 feet).

JCB is one of the biggest original equipment manufacturers to display at the show. Above, representatives from JCB and several of their Ontario dealers stand in front of the JCB 110W Hydradig. Announced at bauma last year, initial demand for the Hydradig concept from within Europe has already far exceeded expectations, with customers quick Kevin McDowell, Mike Haas, and Peter Muir stand at the McDowell booth. With the installation of JCB’s EcoMAX Tier 4 Final engine, Hydradig will now be made available in North American markets, where it is expected to prove equally popular.

The Selix team had amazing success introducing Center Rock new utility pole line canister drill. This new LP Drill will Robert MacLennan, Vice President Supply Chain and Manufacturing, and Keith Hicks, Product Specialist - North America, drill faster in any rock formation resulting in perfect holes drilled in minutes compared to existing methods being both of Quadco, stand behind the Quadco 45-inch (1.14-metre) forestry mower. The mower features a RexRoth 170 cc used currently in this market, claims Selix. With the assistance of Jeremy Winters, a Sandvik factory-trained drilling variable displacement motor, rugged roller bearings, wear-resistant anvil plate and skis, different Quad Tooth styles, consumable specialist, the team answered drilling-related questions and introduced Sandvik’s new drills series and and an optional boom adapter with matching pins or quick attach available for most carriers. drilling consumables. From left to right stand Mario Roussel from Selix, Jeremy Winters from Sandvik, Christen Fisher from Center Rock, J.P. Aube from Selix and Joe Ecker from Center Rock. Selix also announced the company’s enlarged territory distribution rights for Sandvik drills, which now includes half the province of Quebec.

Tesab featured the 10570, the company’s heavy-duty mobile crushing unit designed to crush primary rock at the quarry face. The 10570 features the proven Tesab 19-ton, 1,100-mm-by-700-mm wide jaw crusher unit with hydraulic Yanmar had a larger presence this year. Hitachi Introduces 4 Upgraded Dash-6 Foresters in North America DESIGN NOTES Type design notes here. Hitachi Construction Machinery – Americas has intro- duced upgraded Dash-6 foresters in North America. The new models include multiple, new, customer-driven features that improve productivity, comfort, and safety. The four new Dash-6 models—ZX210F-6, ZX260F-6, ZX310F-6 and ZX370F-6—utilize a fuel-efficient Tier 4 Final/EU Stage IV Isuzu engine that does not need a diesel particulate filter (DPF). All four models also feature a quiet- er cab with three inches of additional legroom; the side entry cab is 25% larger than the previous Dash-3 models. “Unlike retrofitted excavators patched together for logging use, Hitachi foresters are built from the ground up in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility specific- ally for forestry work,” said Carlos Uriarte, Division Sales Manager at Hitachi Construction Machinery – Americas. “This ensures quality, and means owners and operators get the efficiency, reliability and durability Hitachi machines are known for.” Hitachi’s line of purpose-built foresters has been work- ing in the woods since 1999. All four, new Dash-6 models are available as road builders, processors, live heel log loaders and valve-in- head log loaders. For processor configurations, Waratah heads come factory-installed for seamless integration. The ZX210F-6, ZX240F-6 and 370F-6 is available in both Canada and the United States. The ZX310F-6 is available in the United States now and will be released in Canada at a later date.

EFFICIENCY The Dash-6 Forester models have the same proven hydraulic systems found in Hitachi’s construction and mining excavators. The upgraded models also feature numerous features designed to make maintenance easier. Ground level ac- cess to all filters and test ports makes maintenance easy and quick. And side by side by side engine, hydraulic and charge air coolers allow easier access for cleaning. Cast counterweights were implemented to offset tail swing increases that would have been needed to accom- modate FT4 packaging and larger cooling systems

COMFORT Injection-molded polycarbonate windows in all cabs, and strategically placed floor windows in the rear-entry cabs provide excellent visibility to the tracks and work area. And a new, standard rear entry log loader cab provides easy access up the right side and across the back deck. Owners have the choice of three cab convenience packages and three seat options to allow machines to be configured to suit the operator and the application.

RELIABILITY A newly-designed machine control system allows the foresters to be factory “tuned” to increase productivity while reducing fluid consumption. In addition, a completely revamped electrical system with 35% fewer components increases system reliability. Finally, a larger cooling system, reversing cooling fan, improved airflow and a more efficient hydraulic manage- ment system keep the machines running cooler.

DURABILITY Undercarriage X-frames and upperframe structures are built to make the new Hitachi foresters last longer than ever before. Longer track options on the ZX260F-6 and ZX370F-6 increase machine stability and improve machine lifting capacity by as much as 17%. Larger lower rollers with im- proved designs for the ZX210F-6, ZX260F-6, and ZX310F-6; and an optional Extreme Duty (XD) undercarriage for the ZX210F-6 improve undercarriage life and reliability.
