Independent Research Projects/Research Grants

2019-present Exploring early-career teachers’ engagement in an online professional learning community through machine-learning-enabled large scale text analysis on Twitter Principal Investigator. Funded by Hirsh and Hord Endowed Excellence Award, $2500 ➢ Conduct research about using learning analytics to explore early- career teachers’ participation patterns in an online professional learning community on Twitter. Develop machine learning text analysis models to identify the topics in the teachers’ discussions and the cognitive dimensions manifested in teachers’ discourse. The purpose is to understand early-career teachers’ interested topics while participating in online professional learning communities, as well as the relationship between the cognitive nature of their discourse and their overall engagement in the community

2016-2017 Developing Elementary Students’ Digital Literacy Through Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Creation Co-PI. Funded by Graduate Student Research Award, $2000 ➢ Initiate and pilot a new curriculum to teach 21st century skills by engaging K-12 students as Augmented/Virtual Reality creators in two schools in Taiwan. Design flipped, collaborative, and interdisciplinary learning experience with the integration of Augmented/Virtual Reality technologies (This project won the Bronze Award(AR/VR Group) in a prestigious international competition Reimagine Education 2018) ➢ Conduct research on how this new curriculum impacts students’ digital literacy development
