While taking an unexpected two weeks opportunity last month( to not get any rest) at Huntsville Hospital , I had a chance to reflect on what it means to be a Mason and a Shriner. We all know there's no higher degree than a Master Mason but many of us chose to continue and become Scottish Rite Masons, York Rite Masons or both. From there we chose to join the world's greatest philanthropy "The Shrine."

From the beginning the Shrine looked for a purpose and that purpose became our legacy of charity. We now have 22 hospi- tals and 4 burn centers where children can receive the best care available. The work we do at Cahaba makes me doubly proud Page 6

The Fireball Unit Director Hugh Michaels

The Fireball unit continues to meet each Thursday at 10 am. Visitors are always welcome. The Luncheon held on 22nd August was a success. The unit made a profit of approximately $1000.00. The enter- tainment was good and the food and fellowship was outstanding. Special thanks to the Lamplighters and Rainbow girls, they were a BIG HELP!

The highlight of the event was the heartwarming talk made by Noble Zachary Mitchell of Rainsville Alabama. Zachary was a patient of the Shrine Hospitals several years ago. He gave much credit to the Shrine for helping him recuperate. Over 85% of his body was burned in an accident and by the Grace of God he survived and is able to live a good life.

Noble Richard “Mac” McCollum was recently surprised by being awarded an Honorary Deputy Sherriff of Madi- son County certificate. Sheriff Blake Dorrning made the presentation at a fireball meeting. “Mac” has promised the Fireballs that if they work hard and save where money that when his is elected Mayor of Huntsville he will make one of the members Chief of Police (Jokingly). “Max” attend all of our meetings and is one of the favorite mem- bers.

Noble Donnie Morton has been chosen as Fireball of the Year. Donnie is one of the hardest workers in our Temple. His unselfish efforts and dedication is outstanding. His is a “warm hearted” Noble who seeks no recognition for what he does but simply enjoys helping others, especially Children. Our Temple is fortunate to have him as a member.

He is presently the Secretary and Treasurer of the Fireballs, a member of Solar Lodge and was secretary and treas- urer there in 1992, a member of the Scottish Rite, a past director of the directors staff and elected Emeritus member after serving 10 years. He is presently serving as Director of the Buffoon Unit and is appointed Marshal for 2015.

The 2015 Paper Crusade is almost over but we still need your help. If you, your Unit, or Club could help out it would be most appreciated. Remember, this fund raiser is one of the very few that Cahaba Shrine Center holds for the benefit of our hospitals and patients. Without contribution collections like this our Hospital programs (outreach, research, transportation, housing, patient care, and education) would be hard pressed to address the current and future needs.
