Horizontal trimmer beams should be situated around 30-50 cm below the bottom and top edge of the window. The high quality materials and state of the art production techniques ensure excellent quality control and give a durable, safe and functional roof window that, together with its insulation properties, is breaking new ground in roof window design and construction. Using specially selected high quality pinewood and using the latest technology in timber lamination techniques Fakro roof windows are extremely stable. To complement this technology all timber compo- nents are vacuum preservative treated and given a three coat matt lacquer finish, which requires no further decoration. Externally the timber components are covered with aluminium cladding sections which are covered with a UV and weather resistant coating. Using the latest in glazing technology Fakro roof windows offer excellent energy saving characteristics. All windows are double glazed as standard and by using a single chambered construction with energy saving panes, each glazed unit achieves a U value of 1.0 W/m2K (1.4 W/m2K per window). This specification is achieved by covering the pane with a silver-oxide coating which reflects the sun’s rays. This makes Fakro roof windows cooler in summer and warmer during the winter. The arc window is a special structure with arc frame, sash and glazing unit. The steel, covering profiles are also adjusted to the window’s shape. It is a pivot type window with a handle situated on the lower part of the sash. The design and production of such a window requires innovative solutions and a high level of technological advancement. The arc window is a non-standard product de- signed and manufactured to individual order.
Conservation Windows
The Fakro conservation window is designed for old, historic and stylised buildings. Its characteristic fea- ture is the sash bar down the middle of the window and black (similar to RAL 9005) metal cladding cov- erings on the window and flashing which matches traditional buildings. Use the Fakro sash bar window to retain the unique historical character of the build- ing from the outside, whilst creating a comfortable and modern interior. Conservation windows have all the advantages of Fakro woof windows. The con- servation window is available in a range of versions, centre pivot, top hung and side hung.

Energy Efficient Glazing This is triple-glazing which includes a 4mm thick toughened outer pane and two 4mm toughened panes with low emission coating on the inner faces of the glass. The 100mm space between panes is filled with inert roof window gas. This method of glazing construction ensures an exceptional energy efficiency U-value of 0.5 w/mK, almost completely preventing heat loss through the roof window.

Obscure Glass One side of the window is smooth, while the other side has an embossed pattern. The patterned surface is on the outside of the window with smooth glass on the inside for ease of cleaning. Obscure glass is toughened and is used on the outer pane of the double-glazing. 52 www.fakro.com Self-Cleaning Glass Self-cleaning glass prevents the build-up of dirt on the window. It has an active coating on the outer surface which
works in two ways. Firstly it absorbs ultra-violet light from roof window the sun causing a reaction on the surface of the glass which breaks down and loosens dirt. Secondly the glass surface has a coating which, when rain or water flows across the window, causes it to do so evenly across the surface instead of forming water droplets, thereby taking dirt with it. In comparison with ordinary glass the water dries quickly without staining. Self- flashings cleaning glass is double glazed with the inside glazing having for roof windows a low emission coating.
