OPTIMUM DAYLIGHT DISTRIBUTION The number and size of roof windows govern the amount and distribution of daylight in the room, as well as the view. Mul- tiple smaller windows allow the light to be distributed more uniformly than one large window does (with equal total glazed areas). INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR TROUBLE-FREE USE OF ROOF WINDOWS • Radiators should always be positioned below the roof windows • The interior reveal surface below the window should be vertical and the one above the window horizontal • Hot air should flow past the entire surface of the glazing – particularly at the bottom of the window In order to get all benefits of high-quality roof windows, the interior reveal must be built correctly. It can provide maxi- mum daylight in the room (30-40 % more daylight than a dormer window of equal glazed area) and natural flow of air past the glass pane. This greatly reduces the risk of build-up of internal condensation on the surface of the double glazing unit. GLAZING FENESTRA roof windows are available with various types of glazing. For the evaluation of the daylighting conditions prevailing in classrooms, the daylight factor (DF) was considered as the most appropriate parameter for indicating the quantity of admitted daylight. The DF values and CIE overcast sky were calculated using Velux Daylight Visualizer 3 software. The task of the paper is to compare various roof window openings in relation to the level of daylight in the attic, looking to optimize the use of the attic for teaching. The indoor air temperature has a general influence on comfort in the interior, in addition to daylight. In winter, the situation is not critical. The thermal insulation properties of packaging structures are sufficient. The situation is worse in summer, due to the fact that the heat-storage properties are undersized and there is excessive overheating of the indoor air. Four variants of roof windows and their influence on the overall microclimate in the attic are compared. The variant without roof windows is a suitable solution with regard to minimum overheating, but the worst situation for daylight.

The road winds into the south end of the neighborhood and extends to the west where it intersects with Avon Street. Development in Belmont first occurred north of Monticello Avenue with the southern section of the neighborhood developing in the mid- to late-twentieth century. The road was widened around 1960 (when the new Avon Street bridge was constructed) and today serves as a major tourism and commuter route into Downtown Charlottesville.
