Eco-Innovation Observatory Eco-Innovation Observatory Methodological report Eco-Innovation Observatory The Eco-Innovation Observatory functions as a platform for the structured collection and analysis of an extensive range of eco-innovation information, gathered from across the European Union and key economic regions around the globe, providing a much-needed integrated information source on eco-innovation for companies and innovation service providers, as well as providing a solid decision- making basis for policy development.     Chamber of Eco Commerce (CEC) New Business Models of Eco Innovations Date: March 2011 Background Sustainable products and services are usually labeled as quality products. Governments, designers, project developers, producers and suppliers are all getting more convinced of their value. Both from a view of urgency as from a view of social responsibility. Both the supply of and the demand for eco innovations have risen significantly during the last years. These are necessary conditions for new markets. An important issue in market- ing the eco-innovations is the business model that is chosen by companies to scale up technologically successful innovations. Business models are an important criteria for fun- ders to provide access to venture capital. When entrepreneurs meet and start talking about their business model everyone seems to have a different perception of the business model. New products are made very quickly, lean and efficient production is a challenge from the past, the network economy challenges companies to create different value proposition for every possible group of clients and ex- periment on this. Disruptive innovations bring both winners and losers. The roadmap to business success in a period of change will demand a premium for innovation, collaboration and smart invest- ments to shape a globally prosperous and sustainable future. The World Commission on Environment and Development (Brundtland Commission) defines sustainable development as meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations. It stresses intergenerational equity. The World Summit on Sustainable Development, 1992, 2002, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 held in Rio de Jeneiro (Brz.), Johannesburg (SA), Rio de Jeneiro (Brz.), London (UK), London (UK) and New York (USA), mentions the three components of sustainable development – economic development, social development and environmentally sustainable development, as interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars. But, doing or maintaining the Sustainable Development is at the zenith of the public debate and global agenda.
