MelchiorK Schwartz of Murrhardt, in the duchy of Württemberg from 1495 to 1806,[1] died be- fore 1 September 1584, when his widow remarried.[2] He was married at Murrhardt in 1559 to Magdalena Eckhardt, daughter of Steffan Eckhardt of Murrhardt (see 60667. Eckhardt, 1, i.). She evidently was not Melchior’s first wife. Some of his children must have been born earlier, in order to marry as early as 1573, and a prior marriage could explain why Melchior’s 1559 marri- age record does not name his father, which was already a common practice when a single man was married in a Lutheran church.[3] However, there are no pre-1559 sacramental records in Murrhardt; baptisms and marriages begin that year, and burials in 1626. Magdalena married secondly, at Murrhardt on 1 September 1584, Michael Mahrer, son of Michael Mahrer of Eich- tendorf.[4] Children of MelchiorK Schwartz by an unknown wife include: i.
