In 2008 it launched programmes financed by structural funds available under Measure 1.2 “Strengthening the human resources poten- tial of science” of the Innovative Economy Operational Pro- gramme. As a beneficiary of the IE OP’s key programmes, the FNP received 421 million zlotys (this funding was spent in 2007-2015). In addition, thanks to funding from the Hu- man Capital Operational Programme (Measure 4.2 “Devel- opment of R&D system staff qualifications and improving the awareness of the role of science in economic growth”), the Foundation implemented the SKILLS project from 2011, assigning more than 35 million zlotys for this pur- pose in 2010-2015. 6 FOUNDATION FOR POLISH SCIENCE ANNUAL REPORT 2016 About the Foundation The year 2016 saw the launch of new programmes financed from the Smart Growth Operational Programme (Measure 4.4 “Increasing the human potential in the R&D sector” and Measure 4.3 “International Research Agendas” [IRAP]). The total amount of funding earmarked for these programmes is 1,147.9 million zlotys (532 million for the IRAP and 615.9 million for the other programmes). Since 2005 the Foundation has enjoyed the status of a pub- lic benefit organization, which entitles it, among other things, to accept donations from private individuals of 1% of their personal income tax for its statutory activity. The funds obtained from such donations are directed towards supplementing the stipends for beneficiaries of the com- petitions for young scientists – in 2006-2009, these were stipends for scientists returning from abroad (POWROTY/ HOMING programme), and from 2010 – stipends for the most outstanding beneficiaries in the START programme’s competition. In recent years the Foundation has also re- ceived several donations from individual benefactors. All of these funds are passed on to the beneficiaries of FNP programmes. Taking care to ensure that its activities remain transparent, the Foundation publishes extensive information on its ac- tivity in the form of Annual Reports. Every year its financial statements are audited by renowned auditing companies.     USEFUL GUIDES REGISTRATION The registration desk will be open at 16:00 on Thursday at the hall of the Tyszkiewicz- Potocki Palace (where the opening ceremony will take place). If you come after the registration, please, contact any member of the organising team (the registration desk will be open during the Forum proceedings in the room 1.3 in the building of Faculty of Law and Administration at Lipowa 4 Street). COMING TO THE FORUM VENUE The Annual Forum will be held between Thursday, 14 June, and Sunday, 17 June 2018. All sessions will take place in the Annual Forum Centre at the Collegium Iuridicum II of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw located next to the University of Warsaw Library at 4 Lipowa Street. Collegium Iuridicum II is found nearby the main University Campus and it can be accessed easily by bus or metro (Centrum Nauki Kopernik station). The venue boasts modern auditoria and conference rooms fully equipped with audio-visual facilities. At the disposal of the Annual Forum participants will be 4 conference rooms seating 140 persons, as well as a spacious auditorium for up to 200 persons. Opening session will take place in the Tyszkiewicz-Potocki Palace next to the gate to the main University Campus at 32, Krakowskie Przedmieście Street. The opening session will be followed by the Welcoming Cocktail. Since the President of Warsaw, Prof. Hanna Gronkiewicz–Waltz has graciously granted her honorary patronage to our Forum on the 15th of June (in the evening) we will be hosted by the city for a cocktail organised in Pałac Ślubów (the Wedding Palace), that is located right next to the Royal Castle in Warsaw (walking distance from theUniversity).

Social Psychological Bulletin, 13(1), Article e25506. https://doi.org/10.5964/spb.v13i1.25506 Change is one thing, progress is another. “Change” is scientific, “progress” is ethical; change is indubitable, whereas progress is a matter of controversy – Bertrand Russell (1947) Right from the start in 2006, Prof. Maria Lewicka, who acted as the founding Editor-in- Chief of Psychologia Społeczna, had a plan to build an outlet which ultimately would be read internationally. She founded a journal that aimed to publish work from international authors covering a broad range of topics on social psychology using various perspectives and methodologies. The plan was that even though it started off as a Polish-language jour- nal, soon enough there would be lots of submissions in English to choose from (as Polish researchers regularly publish in English-language journals), and the proportions between the two languages could be smoothly adjusted later on. Surely enough, throughout the years it has become one of the best psychology journals in Poland, but the plan for its international impact has been put on hold. Simply not that many people have submitted their English manuscripts to Psychologia Społeczna – most preferred to submit their work in Polish.
