Preface Preface The intersections of science and law occur from crime scene to crime lab to criminal prosecution and defense. Although detectives, forensic scientists, and attorneys may have different vocabularies and perspectives, from a cognitive perspective, they share a way of thinking that is essential to scientific knowledge. A good detective, a well-trained forensic analyst, and a seasoned attorney all exhibit “what-if” thinking. This kind of thinking in hypotheticals keeps a detective open-minded: it prevents a detective from ignoring or not collecting data that may result in exculpatory evidence. -

The big picture view is that the news they report on clearly supports and favors keeping and preserving the status quo and thus the wealth and power of the largest companies and industries on the planet…not the common man. The TV networks, websites, newspapers, magazines owned by Rupert Murdoch have been at best been reluctant to publish or report on anything that doesn’t support the various big businesses that continue to fund their media empire with advertising dollars. -

DIGITAL GENRE: A MECHANISM FOR KNOWLEDGE SHARING AND REUSE IN BUSINESS CLUSTERS By María Eugenia Molina Barrantes A thesis submitted to the Victoria University of Wellington in fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Information Systems Management VICTORIA UNIVERSITY OF WELLINGTON 2008 i This thesis is dedicated to my parents Maru and Julio Abstract The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge transfer mechanisms in project bidding for two business clusters in New Zealand, and how ICT played a role in facilitating a "virtual space" for sharing and re-use of these mechanisms. Genre Systems was the theoretical framework adopted to guide this inquiry and to build on further theory. Within the context of this study, genres are the knowledge transfer mechanisms that communicate information and knowledge to members of the community, following specific social rules. The genres and the way they are being employed contribute towards explaining how knowledge is shared and reused by a community. Action research methodology was used to direct data collection and analysis, and validate how the study was carried out. The study comprised of one action research cycle, which has been divided in five stages: Diagnosis, Planning, Development, Evaluation, and Specifying Learning. Mapping the clusters’ collaborative interactions during project bidding helped to identify the knowledge transfer mechanisms. This allowed the identification of an ICT solution that could improve project bidding, and identification of how this knowledge could be stored for reuse in future bids. One of the clusters decided to work together with the researcher towards the design of a new portal to address their project bidding needs. -

From Leafy Suburb to Skyscraper Sleep City Destruction of Epping
Epping: From leafy suburb to Skyscraper Sleep City A planning process gone wrong Submission Epping Planning Review By Matt Mushalik, 16/7/2017 Summary Destruction of Epping The current destruction of the Epping precinct can be characterised by 2 pictures: Business is moving because there was no proper transitional planning for office space Demolition of the Cambridge St Business park to make room for China’s Polyhorizon apartments – a completely unnecessary “development” So many jobs were destroyed. This is not urban renewal. It’s the opposite. Land has actually been exported. The owners and/or renters are rich Asian speculators and immigrants. 1 How did it happen? What Epping needed was a modernisation of the commercial area which had dilapidated over the years (marked red - approximate), most likely as a result of establishing the car dependent Carlingford Court and Macquarie shopping centres decades ago. So this was already a town planning sin. The areas marked red should have been developed first. But modern business parks were demolished first. Shame on those who participated in this game. But instead of trying to fix the disadvantages of Epping’s old commercial and retail areas, the NSW government happily forced ambitious federal immigration targets on all Council areas in Sydney and pushed Councils to rezone business areas B into “B2 Local Centre” which basically allows any use which is most profitable to developers and that is residential. Read the justification: “To simplify the planning controls for the centre, a single B2 Local Centre zoning is recommended. This zone permits a wide range of uses, including retail, business, office, residential, community and entertainment purposes. -

This was the question on the lips again of corporate analysts when it was announced (Sydney Morning Herald, 11 May 01, p.1) that Murdoch‟s third wife, Wendi Deng, is expecting their first child. Murdoch had one child (Prudence) by his first wife, Patricia; and three children (Elisabeth, Lachlan and James) by his second wife, Anna. Lachlan is seen as the most likely family member to succeed, eventually, Rupert Murdoch at the controls of News Corp, but if Rupert stepped under a bus tomorrow, News Corp‟s chief operating officer, Peter Chernin, would be expected to take charge. The news of Wendi‟s pregnancy came as a big surprise. Not even Murdoch seems to have expected it. An extract from Pilita Clark‟s second-day report in the SMH (12-13 May 01, p.3): “In an interview with the British Journalism Review magazine in late 1999, nearly five months after he wed Ms Deng, he was asked if he and his new wife planned to start a family.
