Timo Airaksinen (University of Helsinki, Finland) - I. Policy, 2 From Human Education in the 3rd Millennium (For 20 years a member of the state matriculation examination board, the chair of philosophy and non-religious moral education; also responsible for the exam questions with Mr Pekka Elo (+)) I. Policy (Educational reforms: what modern educational policy really means? What educational policy should contain in order to provide what people and their societies need) 2) How should we understand the relationships between education and work? The limitations of neoliberal models and education policy focused on economic production.Tendencies for education to be incorporated into the interests of global and cognitive capitalism and neoliberalism, so that technical skills and capacities (eg for 'entrepreneurialism') are played up and human qualities and human understandings are neglected. There is something wrong with the Finnish school system, although it is widely admired. The teachers are happy and motivated; they think their work is appreciated and their status is ok. But the disturbing symptom is that the students are not motivated; in fact discipli-nary problems are very bad, and the teachers suffer from this. Also, learning results, say, in mathematics are low. The Finnish students' problems are the worst among those studied recently. Also, the parents' attitudes tend to be problematic. What should be done? KEY THEMES The limitations of neoliberal educational models and education policy focused on economic production. Tendencies for education to be incorporated into the interests of global corporations, capitalism, and neoliberalism, so that work related technical skills and capacities are played up. 1) The Finnish school educational system has been successful because (a) the teachers are academically trained, and (b) the nation has always respected learning and knowledge, although this “always” has a very short span.

  • Professor Gasparski on Design and Entrepreneurship1
ZAGADNIENIA NAUKOZNAWSTWA 2 (212), 2017 PL ISSN 0044 – 1619 Timo Airaksinen* University of Helsinki, Finland Professor Gasparski on Design and Entrepreneurship1 Abstract. The purpose of this paper is to combine two fi elds and show their essential connections. The concerned fi elds are the theory of design and the proper understanding of business ethics, especially entrepreneurship; both of them are Professor Wojciech Gasparski’s main areas of interest. This is a signifi cant and laudable project because in the modern world business is a key fi eld, yet it is not without its problems, especially ethical problems. Therefore, in the present context I see Gasparski to be an ethicist and axiologist who takes notions like responsibility and the satisfaction of human needs very seriously. Keywords: design theory, business ethics, Gasparski Poglądy profesora Gasparskiego na temat projektowania i przedsiębiorczości Abstrakt. Słowa kluczowe: projektowanie, etyka biznesu, Gasparski Designs for a Better World In this paper my purpose is to combine two fi elds, both of them are Professor Wojciech Gasparski’s main areas of interest, and show their essential connections, as he thinks of them.

Yhdys- valloissa se julkaistiin vuonna 1991 nimellä "Of Glamour, Sex and Sade, Longwood Academic" ja uutena laitoksena Englannissa vuonna 1995. • Conspiracy Theories As Fiction: Kafka and Sade
Munich Social Science Review, New Series, vol. 2 (2019) Conspiracy Theories as Fiction: Kafka and Sade Timo Airaksinen Department of Politics and Economics/Moral and Social Philosophy University of Helsinki [email protected] Abstract: In this paper, I study conspiracy theories as two novelists handle them: Kafka and Sade. Kafka’s depiction of guilt depends on anxiety that refers to nameless accusations. His protagonists may well assume that a conspiracy targets them in a way they can never understand. I explain the logic of the law that embodies such anxiety, in his novels The Trial and The Process. My second example is the Marquis de Sade who gives many examples of conspiracies on his major novels Justine and Juliette. I study two of them, first, the group of murderous monks in Justine and the Parisian secret society called Sodality in Juliette. Both are successful organizations and Sade helps us understand why this is so. I discuss some real life examples of conspiracies. Finally, I compare Kafka, Sade, and their viewpoints: Kafka’s is that of the victim and Sade’s that of the victor. Keywords: secret society, guilt, law, paranoia, crime, punishment “Guilt for what, she had no idea. Guilt is always to be assumed, maybe? Once you’re an adult” Joyce Carol Oates: Middle Age: A Romance (2001). 1.
