Kulturrådets forord Norsk kulturråd har et særskilt ansvar for det som er nytt i norsk kultur- liv. Dette nye kommer til uttrykk på høyst ulike måter. Det som kanskje særlig fanger oppmerksomheten, er det nyskapende i kunsten selv. Men det nye i kulturlivet kan også være nye måter å tenke om kunst og kultur på, det kan være nye samarbeidsformer mellom aktører i kunstlivet, nye institusjoner eller nye steder for visning av kunst. Å ha ansvar for det nye forutsetter at vi arbeider og tenker på måter som gjør oss i stand til å få øye på framtiden. Kulturrådets systematiske satsing på forskningsbasert kunnskapsproduksjon kan sees som et ledd i dette arbeidet. Den forelig- gende boka, som er resultat av et større forskningsprosjekt, er uttrykk for denne viljen til å styrke kunnskapen om det kulturlivet som vokser fram. Boka handler om endringsprosesser i kulturlivet slik disse utspiller seg lokalt i tre kommuner i Norge. Resultatene fra en fersk kvantitativ spør- reundersøkelse til norske kommuner trekkes noen ganger inn i boka, men i all hovedsak er dette ei bok basert på kvalitative studier, der observasjon, uformelle intervjuer og studier av skriftlig materiale har vært metodene. De tre stedene vi blir tatt med til, er Storås, Drammen og Kirkenes. Disse har på forskjellig vis merket seg ut med nye kultursatsinger. Lokale instanser, både offentlige og frivillige, har ønsket å sette kultur på kartet. Men verken Storås, Drammen eller Kirkenes eksisterer isolert. De end- ringsprosessene som lokalt kulturliv er virvlet inn i, finner sted på ulike nivå. Det er tale om endringer i politiske, organisatoriske, økonomiske og KULTURRÅDETS FORORD 3 mentale strukturer og prosesser. Noen av disse prosessene og strukturene forsøker forskerne å fange og forstå gjennom hver enkelt case-studie. Andre trer fram gjennom prosjektleder Olaf Aagedals innledende og avsluttende kapitler. Han gjør ikke en punktvis sammenliknende analyse i streng forstand, men lar seg inspirere av de tre lokalstudiene til å peke på allmenne tendenser i dagens norske kulturliv på lokalnivå. På samme måte inviteres leserne til å la seg inspirere av denne boka: Den er en doku- mentasjon og en fortolkning av noe av det som skjer i lokalt kulturliv, og vi håper den er velegnet som innspill til å tenke videre. Kvalitative studier som dette har ikke som ambisjon å gi presise mengdeangivelser over det som finnes ute i samfunnslivet, men slike studier kan være egnet til å fange opp det nye. Vi synes denne bokas beskrivelser og refleksjoner er verdifulle i så måte. Den er god å tenke ut fra! Ideene til forskningsprosjektet ble utviklet i dialog med Norsk kultur- forum og tidsskriftet KULTMAG. En rekke personer har vært engasjert i arbeidet med å utvikle og gjen- nomføre forskningsprosjektet. I tillegg til medlemmene i Kulturrådets FoU-utvalg 2004–2009 vil vi særskilt takke FoU-leder Georg Arnestad ved Høgskulen i Sogn og Fjordane for hans innspill til utviklingen og gjennomføringen av prosjektet. Aslaksen Professor ved Universitetet i Agder Forskningsleder Leder av FoU-utvalget i Norsk kulturråd Norsk kulturråd 4 LOKALT KULTURLIV I ENDRING Forord Denne boka bygger på eit forskingsprosjekt om endringar i lokalt kultur- liv som vart gjennomført i perioden 2007–2009, finansiert av Norsk kul- turråd. Kulturrådet meinte at det i dag hadde skjedd så omfattande end- ringar i lokalt kulturliv at det kartet ein brukte for å orientere seg i kulturlandskapet, stemte dårleg med terrenget. Derfor hadde ein behov for ei ny kartlegging av det lokale kulturlandskapet både i form av lokale nærstudiar og ein nasjonal survey. Forskingsoppdraget er gjennomført i eit samarbeid mellom Norsk senter for bygdeforskning i Trondheim og forskingsavdelinga ved Dia- konhjemmet høgskole i Oslo, med den siste som hovudansvarleg institu- sjon. Sosiolog Oddveig Storstad har gjennomført den nasjonale surveyen, som kjem ut som eigen rapport. Kulturgeograf Helene Egeland og sosio- logane Mariann Villa og Olaf Aagedal har gjennomført dei lokale case-studiane. Aagedal har vore prosjektleiar. Elles har følgjande personar vore inne i ulike funksjonar i ulike fasar av prosjektet: Ånund Brottveit, Reidun Heggem, Frank Egil Holm, Brit Marie Hovland, May-Britt Krogsvold, Anne Schanche Selbekk, Sidsel Sverdrup og Linn Heidi Vinje. Denne boka er i hovudsak basert på erfaringane frå dei lokale case-stu- diane. Først og fremst vil vi takke alle våre informantar som generøst har bidrege med opplysningar og meiningar om det lokale kulturlivet dei er involverte i. Boka er eit resultat av eit prosjektsamarbeid der idear og teks- FORORD 5 ter er blitt utvikla og diskuterte undervegs, men der den einskilde forskar står ansvarleg for kvar sine kapittel. Mariann Villa har skreve kapitlet om Storås, Helene Egeland kapitlet om Drammen. Olaf Aagedal har redigert boka og skreve innleiings- og sluttkapitla og kapitlet om Kirkenes. It is, for one thing, the latest ; it continued in these regions of Europe till the eleventh century : eight hundred years ago the Norwegians were still worshipers of Odin. It is interesting also as the creed of our fathers ; the men whose blood still runs in our veins, whom doubtless we still resemble in so many ways. Strange : they did believe that, while we believe so differently. Let us look a little at this poor Norse creed, for many reasons. We have tolerable means to do it ; for there is another point of interest in these Scandinavian mythologies : that they have been preserved so well. Neither is there no use in knowing something about this old Paganism of our fathers. Unconsciously, and combined with higher things, it is in us yet, that old faith withal.

The material presented within allows players and referees to construct PLAYER’S OPTION characters for use in the DRAGONLANCE Taladas setting. The largest change to character creation is the introduction of a character point system. Information about character points can be found in the PLAYER’S OPTION: Skills and Powers volume. In Taladas, players have more options for player character races than they have had before. In addition to the normal assortment of humans, elves, half-elves, dwarves, gnomes, and kender, Taladan characters can also be minotaurs, goblins, ogres, and bakali.     1 THE COLLECTED POEMS OF HENRIK IBSEN Translated by John Northam 2 PREFACE With the exception of a relatively small number of pieces, Ibsen’s copious output as a poet has been little regarded, even in Norway. The English-reading public has been denied access to the whole corpus. That is regrettable, because in it can be traced interesting developments, in style, material and ideas related to the later prose works, and there are several poems, witty, moving, thought provoking, that are attractive in their own right. The earliest poems, written in Grimstad, where Ibsen worked as an assistant to the local apothecary, are what one would expect of a novice. Resignation, Doubt and Hope, Moonlight Voyage on the Sea are, as their titles suggest, exercises in the conventional, introverted melancholy of the unrecognised young poet. Moonlight Mood, To the Star express a yearning for the typically ethereal, unattainable beloved. In The Giant Oak and To Hungary Ibsen exhorts Norway and Hungary to resist the actual and immediate threat of Prussian aggression, but does so in the entirely conventional imagery of the heroic Viking past. From early on, however, signs begin to appear of a more personal and immediate engagement with real life. There is, for instance, a telling juxtaposition of two poems, each of them inspired by a female visitation. It is Over is undeviatingly an exercise in romantic glamour: the poet, wandering by moonlight mid the ruins of a great palace, is visited by the wraith of the noble lady once its occupant; whereupon the ruins are restored to their old splendour.

    Gro Steinsland The late Iron Age Worldview and the Concept of ‘Utmark’ Our concern here is the ‘utmark’ or outfield, the outer areas of the farmstead, cultivated and explored by men. It is not the empirically experienced outfield that will be in focus, but rather the ideas and symbolism created around it. There are no obvious sources that give us immediate access to the ideology of the outfield as such. The question is whether it will be acceptable to consider the cosmological worldview of the Viking period as a doorway to the ideas of the outfield. The cosmology of the Viking period contains a mythological domain that may be characterised as a sort of ‘outfield’. Within the mythological texts, the outer sphere of cosmos is called Utgard, ‘the home/farm outside’, the areas outside the fence. The question is whether the ideas connected to that cosmological domain may be transferred to the concepts of outfield or ‘utmark’ surrounding the farmstead. In the study of the history of religion, it is commonly assumed that there are parallels between the cultural classifications on the cosmological and the empirical level. This presupposition is, however, a hypothesis that has to be further investigated. This broader task is not going to occupy us as such; it is a rather huge challenge that has to be handled in an interdisciplinary way. I will concentrate on the narrower question, whether it is possible to argue that there were some sort of parallels between the ideas of the outfield on the microcosmic level and Utgard on the macrocosmic level.
