These are mainly morphology and anatomy, but also phylogeny and evolution (and today, also genetics). Since most of the cereal species are treated as domesticated plants, many different forms such as subspecies, varieties, and forms appear inside the genus and species (see table below). In domesticates the taxonomical category of variety is also called “sort” (lat. cultivar, abbreviated: cv.). This refers to a variety which evolved through breeding. Cultivar is the lowest taxonomic rank in the domesticated plants. Occasionally, cultivars are also called races: e.g. landraces evolved through genetic isolation, under local environmental conditions whereas „high-breed-races“ were breed by strong selection of humans. Anyhow: The morphological delimitation of cultivars is difficult, sometimes even impossible. It needs great experience and very detailed morphological knowledge.

    Zürcherische Naturschutzobjekte von nationaler wissenschaftlicher Bedeutung 1. Einleitung Von HANS LEIBUNDGUT Die Vorstände der SChweizerischen Vereinigung für Heimatschutz und des Schweizerischen Bundes für Naturschutz haben im Jahre 1955 beschlossen, ein Verzeichnis von Landschaften und Naturdenkmälern aufzustellen, welche zum Wohle des ganzen Landes unbedingt erhalten werden müssen. Die Naturschutz- kommissionen der Naturforschenden Gesellschaften und die Sektionen der Ver- einigung für Heimatschutz wurden deshalb eingeladen, Objekte auszuwählen und vorzuschlagen. Nachdem seit einigen Jahren im Kanton Zürich eine Sektion des Schweize- rischen Bundes für Naturschutz besteht, welche sich allgemeine naturschütze- rische Ziele setzt, durfte sich die Naturschutzkommission der Naturforschenden Gesellschaft in Zürich auf die Auswahl der Objekte von nationaler w i s s e n - s c h a f t 1 i c h e r Bedeutung beschränken. Damit sollte jedoch der Wert regional oder lokal bedeutsamer oder der aus rein ästhetischen, ideellen und namentlich sozialen Erwägungen schutzwürdigen Objekte nicht als zweitrangig dargestellt werden, denn in unserem stark industrialisierten und dicht besiedel- ten Kanton ist ein allgemeiner und umfassender Landschafts- und Naturschutz längst von allergrösster Wichtigkeit. Unsere Vorschläge erstrecken sich aus- schliesslich auf Objekte, welche in gesamtschweizerischer Betrachtung wissen- schaftlich unersetzbar erscheinen oder für die Zürcher Hochschulen eine ganz besondere Rolle spielen. Für jedes vorgeschlagene Objekt wurde ein wissenschaftliches Gutachten ausgearbeitet, so für die Sihllandschaft bei Hütten, Schönenberg, Hirzel; das Neeracher Ried; die Maschwander Allmend; das Robenhauser Ried; einen Teil der Albiskette und des Reppischtales; den Katzensee; den Rheinfall; die Lägernkette mit einzelnen besonderen Schutzobjekten; die Drumlinlandschaft bei Wetzikon. Diese Gutachten dürften von allgemeinem Interesse sein und werden deshalb in etwas gekürzter Form veröffentlicht.

    Journal of Wetland Archaeology 12, 2012, 58–85 Zurich-Alpenquai: a multidisciplinary approach to the chronological development of a Late Bronze Age lakeside settlement in the northern Circum-Alpine Region Philipp Wiemann, Marlu Kühn, Annekäthi Heitz-Weniger, Barbara Stopp, Benjamin Jennings, Philippe Rentzel and Francesco Menotti Abstract The Alpenquai lake-dwelling is located on Lake Zurich, and can be considered as one of the rare Late Bronze Age lake-dwellings with a pronounced organic-rich cultural layer in the northern Circum-Alpine region. Within a larger research project, investigating the final abandonment of the lakeshores in the Circum-Alpine area at the end of the Late Bronze Age, this settlement has been investigated using a multidisciplinary research design. Combining micromorphology, archaeobotany, palynology, archaeozoology and material culture studies, the formation of the site is reconstructed, and the reasons for its final abandonment are sought. A highly dynamic lake system that caused a lake water level rise before 900 BC, a regression in the second half of the 9th century BC, and a later transgression, could be detected. The settlement appears to have been established during the lake regression, and abandoned during the transgression, proving a high degree of environmental adaptation by its inhabitants.     The copper axe blade of Zug-Riedmatt (Canton of Zug, Switzerland) – a key to chronology and metallurgy in the second half of the fourth millennium BC Eda Gross, Gishan Schaeren & Igor Maria Villa Abstract - The copper axe blade discovered in the pile dwelling site of Zug-Riedmatt is one of the few Neolithic copper axe blades in Eu- rope that can be dated with certainty. The blade’s form and its metal composition suggest that it is connected both to the south – more specifically to Copper Age cultures in northern Italy and southern Tuscany – and to the copper axe of the famous ice mummy of Tisenjoch (called ‘the Iceman’ or ‘Ötzi’). We were able to confirm this connection to the south by measuring the lead isotope composition of the blade, which traces the blade’s origin to Southern Tuscany. Due to these links to the south, the copper axe blade of Zug-Riedmatt can be de- scribed as a key to understanding Neolithic metallurgy north of the Alps in the second half of the fourth millennium BC. As the classification of the blade will have far-reaching consequences in regard to chronology and cultural history, we have decided to make the results of our analyses available as quickly as possible – even if this means that for now we can only discuss some basic results and assumptions about the blade’s context. VERDONKSCHOT (1) Abstract: The Early Neolithic in Europe is one of the most dynamic and significant periods of prehistory. However, there are still many questions waiting to be answered. Pile dwellings can shed a light on this case as these sites and their material have been preserved exceptionally well due to the humid conditions of their location. Besides from this global aim they also offer the possibility of comparing several settlements extensively, including data such as architecture, tools and diet as well as the more traditional ceramic remains. This article proposes a line of investigation in which several Case Studies from different areas (the Alps, Northern Spain and Central Italy) are studied. These Case Studies consist of a specific area, including a lakeside settlement that forms the basis, and nearby contemporaneous sites. The areas are assessed based on the found archaeological record and in terms of their social organization and connections. Secondly, the dynamic relations between said areas are addressed in order to study connectivity and contact in Early Neolithic Europe. Above all this study promotes a different way of investigating, abandoning the single-site perspective, no longer looking exclusively for differences but adopting a slightly different vision and linking different sites and places. M. Kobler, Architekt in Dietikon, meldete den Fund von menschlichen Knochen in der Baugrube für ein Einfa- milienhaus, das nördlich der Flur Heligenmatt anstelle AFFOLTERN AM ALBIS eines landwirtschaftlichen Gebäudes errichtet werden soll. Von der angeschnittenen Bestattung wurden ein GANETEN, BISLIKEN Femur, eine Tibia sowie Finger- und Mittelhandknochen Koord. 677721/237635; Höhe 620 eines erwachsenen Individuums geborgen. Das Skelett Steinkreis unbekannter Zeitstellung war geostet und befand sich 1 m unter der aktuellen Prospektion 2015.140; 25.06.2015 Bodenoberfläche. Das Grab gehört zu einer Kapelle mit Verantwortlich: Roland Sojka Friedhof, deren genaue Lage trotz der 2014 wegen der geplanten Überbauung der Heiligenmatt durchgeführ- Im Bislikerhau befindet sich auf einer leicht erhöhten ten Sondierungen unbekannt blieb. Die Kapelle wurde Waldlichtung ein auffallender Steinkreis (Befundmel- 1360/70 und 1375 schriftlich erwähnt und ist auf der dung durch Sibylle Späni-Büchi). Die Fundstelle wurde Gyger-Karte von 1667 eingezeichnet. Spätestens vor im Hinblick auf die Frage prospektiert, ob es sich um 1807 erfolgte der Abbruch.
