Hello and welcome!

The SP Detox Cleanse is a powerful method of improving the function of the organs of detoxification. The lungs, skin, blood, liver, kidneys and bowels will be more able to cleanse and waste products from your body, and you will see improvement in overall function of those organs and the rest of the body.

Experience shows that people can have very positive and dramatic improvements during this time. Each person is unique and may see changes in skin, moods, sleep, , digestion, bowels, hormones, and even cholesterol levels improving in three short weeks.

The SP Detox Cleanse or “Purification Program” includes an initial consultation, high quality whole food based supplements, along with eating in a way to promote detox, drinking lots of , and engaging in mild regular exercise. The program doesn’t promote a “diet” but instead trains you to change your lifestyle so that you will have new healthy habits upon completion.

There are 3 levels to consider when doing this cleanse- beginner, intermediate and advanced, which will be explained in this packet. Everyone can do the advanced level, which produces the greatest results. However, since there are many different types of person who have different abilities to commit, we have 3 options to choose from. All three levels will give you results you will be happy with, so base your decision on a realistic evaluation of your own life situation.

Enclosed is a Toxicity Questionnaire. If you can, please fill this out and note the number, so that you can retake it afterwards and see the difference. People are frequently astonished by the before-and- after! And it allows us to see where your “weak” areas might be and allow us to support you there. Please do not skip this step – you will be pleasantly surprised!

Cleansing will ultimately be much more effective if other changes can be implemented into your life. This is a good time to start to make improvements in your nutrition and exercise patterns, and while we can’t always control everything that enters our bodies, the SP Detox Cleanse will allow you to get rid of a lot of what might have stayed in your tissues otherwise. Ultimately, regular cleansing will allow your filtering organs, like your liver, to do the best job possible, and over time, gives you a better chance of staying healthy and avoiding many of the diseases and conditions that strike other people. Consider this an investment in your health now, and in your future.

Choose From 3 Levels

It is important to know that the program can be done on a variety of levels. If this is the first time you are paying attention to your diet in this way, we recommend you do the Cleanse as a Level One: Beginner

Level One: Beginner

Remove from diet:

• Caffeine • Alcohol • Sugars and Sweeteners • Processed Foods (anything in a box or a bag, basically) • Fried Foods

Level Two: Intermediate

To take the program to the next level, especially if you have done it before, in addition to removing the above items from the diet, one can also look at removing:

• Dairy • Gluten • Carbohydrates in general • Grains • Any additional foods you suspect an allergy to, i.e. eggs, corn, soy, nuts etc.

Level Three: Advanced***

This version eliminates all of the above while eating ONLY* fruits and vegetables (raw and cooked) for the first 10 days of the program along with protein shakes, then adding lean meats and other protein for the second 10 days. The reason for this is that removing fats from the diet for that length of time allows the liver and gall bladder to thin the bile, soften gallstones, and de-congest the liver. **

21 Day Purification Program Directions

This detox cleanse is one of the best cleansing programs available. Not only does it clean your liver, but also your gall bladder, kidneys, lymph, blood and colon – all very necessary to address when looking at whole body health. While there are a variety of levels of cleansing based on what the diet is during the cleanse, we recommend at least this basic level of dietary adjustment: Eliminate during the Cleanse (at the very least, beginner)

Make sure that during this entire time, you are drinking large amounts of water to help flush toxins out of your system. What To Expect

As your body clears itself of toxins, there may be some side effects initially, most commonly:

Diet Guidelines

Note for Advanced Users: Advanced users eat only vegetables & fruit (soaked brown rice, lentils) and SP Complete shakes for the first 10 days. Then add in lean meats on the 11th day.

Do Not Skip Meals: Eat frequently throughout the day. Eat all you want of the approved foods.

Eat a variety of foods; choose a rainbow of colors

NO alcohol, caffeine, tobacco and other stimulants: If high caffeine user – taper off (to avoid headaches). Green Tea is excellent! Feel free to drink all you want!

Vegetables & Fruits: Twice as many vegetables as fruit (very important!!!), eat raw, lightly steamed, organic whenever possible, and lots of it!

Fats: USE: Organic butter or ghee, coconut oil, fish oils, olive oil, and almond oil. AVOID: margarine, vegetable oils (corn oil, canola oil), Hydrogenated Oils (Crisco, margarine), peanut oil

Salad Dressing: Make your own out of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, minced fresh Garlic, Lemon Juice, Sea Salt and Black Pepper. “Bragg’s Natural’s” Brand Salad Dressings are actually olive oil and vinegar (no soy oil added) — a good choice if you can’t make your own. (Avoid salad dressings with corn syrup, vegetable oils, sugar, dairy, soy)

Avoid High Glycemic Foods (fast rise in blood sugar): starches, sugar, corn, bananas, white potatoes … (sweet potatoes are beneficial and recommended unless weight loss is your main goal)

Drink lots of water – very important!!! Drink at least half your body weight in ounces. Spring or mineral water is best. Drink most between meals. You can add fresh squeezed lime or lemon

Eggs are good! – Eat as many as you’d like (unless you have cut them out for allergy elimination).

Fish: Choose ocean fish like Salmon, Cod, etc. Avoid local lake fish. Do not fry. Amount should be the size of your palm and thickness of your palm (Advanced users add in on day 11)

Turkey & Chicken: ONLY - free range, antibiotic-free, hormone-free. Baking or roasting preferred to grilling or frying (Advanced users add in on day 11)

Arthritis: People who have arthritis should avoid: Nightshades: Tomatoes, Potatoes, All Peppers, Eggplant etc… & Citrus Fruits

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: People who have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and/or Fibromyalgia should avoid citrus fruits

Exercise During the 21 Day Purification Program

EXERCISE is vital to health and leads to feelings of well-being and security. Why not turn the TV off in the evening and go for a walk. This can improve sleep and nervous system function, as well as “feel good” hormones. Just be sure to get in some exercise!

• Exercise daily throughout program • Now that you are feeling a new sense of energy, take this opportunity to move. Try to exercise until you sweat! • Unless you are older and/or have not been exercising, take a 20 to 30-minute walk daily.

Other Actions That Help Cleansing and Detoxification

• Bodywork (massage) and help to move lymph fluid and flush toxins out of the system. • Time spent in a sauna can also help sweat toxins out, but be careful and heed your doctor’s advice. No more than 20 minutes at a time, and drink plenty of water during and after. Support of Family & Friends

The SP Detox Cleanse can put a stress on family and friends who expect you to cook and eat with them. Let them know right up front that you expect their help and cooperation during the program. Remember, it is just 21 days!

Pre-detox

If you drink caffeinated beverages, eat foods with high sugar content, or drink sodas (including diet), then you will need to reduce your consumption to zero prior to starting the program. During the SP Detox Cleanse, you cannot have cokes, coffee, candy, chocolate, etc. so begin limiting yourself of these at least 7 days prior to starting the program. This will help alleviate caffeine and sugar withdrawal symptoms and/or headaches while on the detox program. You can use green teas and/or

mineral water with unsweetened juice to make the transition easier. If you need to sweeten the tea, use a little Stevia or Xylitol.

Prepare your household by not having food you should avoid on hand. Begin throwing away all hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils and margarine, white sugar, artificial sweeteners, and refined white breads and pastas. Stock your kitchen with the acceptable foods in the approved lists so you will not be tempted to eat foods from the avoid list.

You should also have at least one bowel movement a day, if not more, before starting the detox program. Drink more water and consult with your practitioner about the use of digestive enzymes if you have a history of . Having daily bowel movements is extremely important to the success of the SP Detox Cleanse program.

Water is another important component of the SP Detox Cleanse. It is recommended that you consume at least half your body weight in ounces of water per day. Take your body weight in pounds and divide by two. That number is the minimum number of ounces of water you should drink per day. Example: Body weight - 120 lbs., 120/2 = 60, so drink at least 60 oz of water per day.

One thing to consider about Detoxing: cleansing will do you very little long-term good unless you are willing to start making some other real changes in your life, too. It’s highly recommended to do a Detoxifying Cleanse every 6 months to a year to clear our body of all the toxins we can’t control, since we will probably never be removed from some chemicals in our lives. But the biggest impact that people can make is to take on a few practices, perhaps adding one or two after each Cleanse, they find make the most difference to them. Exercise, reducing/removing sugar, eating more vegetables and fruit, making more food instead of buying it, eating and buying organic whenever possible, managing stress – all of these things will do more in the long run than a simple 3-week Cleanse. But as a place to jumpstart this new life – this is the best!

The Truth about Fats

In this cleanse we limit fats so that our liver and gallbladder can have a break. But once you finish the purification program, you should add in as many good fats as you like! Fats are so misunderstood and mass marketing has made the water even muddier. Plain and simple…you cannot be healthy without good fats in your diet! The brain is about 60% fat to start with, and you might correctly draw the conclusion here that it needs fat in order to function properly. Fats do not make you fat; eating too little fat can make you fat. But here is the truth and beauty about fats. Fats that keep you healthy and the brain well functioning are from the earth and animals and are minimally processed, if at all. A list

of good oils that you and your family should be consuming daily is listed in the “Approved” Foods list above. Even the good oil, saturated fat (that’s right, saturated fat is a good oil!), has been made a villain. Saturated fat is critical to every cell of your body. Nature has provided a number of foods with saturated fats like coconut oil and even your body makes saturated fats. If, however, you eat man- made saturated/hydrogenated fats and altered “trans-fats” you are in trouble! So please, begin your journey into a new world of understanding about healthy foods and learn to distinguish between truth and myth. An important part of this program is to change the oil/fats in the diet, especially oils that are hydrogenated, altered, and chemical. It can take months to get the congesting bad fats out of your cells; the bad news is - the half-life of trans fats is 51 days. In other words, after 51 days of eating no trans fats, you still need another 51 days to complete the clearing – and even then, a 25% residual remains. That “bad oil” in that bag of French fries lasts 102 days! Improper nerve function, increased inflammation, faster aging, and poor cell communication come from eating these “bad / rancid oils.”

There is good news however - the half-life of the beneficial omega-3 fatty acids found in cod liver oil, tuna oil and salmon oil are 18 days. This means you can see noticeable changes within this time. Remember however, to continue the elimination of “bad” fats for life to keep healthy balance.

UNDERSTANDING DETOXIFICATION

I eat healthy, exercise and drink plenty of water so is it really necessary for me?

Living in a chemically oriented society has made toxicity a much greater concern for the 20th century. The Environmental Protection Agency reports that the average American consumes four pounds of pesticides each year and has residues from over 400 toxic substances in their body. More than 3,000 chemical additives are found in the foods we eat. The incidence of many toxic diseases has increased as well, with cancer and cardiovascular disease at the top of the list. Arthritis, allergies, obesity, and many skin problems are other troubles that occur as a result of toxicity. In addition, a wide range of symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, pains, coughs, gastrointestinal problems, and problems from immune weakness can all be related to toxicity. Toxicity can occur on an internal and an external level. We are exposed to toxins daily and can acquire them from our environment by breathing, ingesting, or coming into physical contact with them. Also, most drugs, food additives, and allergens can create toxic elements in the body.

On the internal level, our body produces toxins through its normal, everyday functions. Biochemical, cellular, and bodily activities generate free radicals. When these are not eliminated, they can cause irritation or inflammation of the cells and tissues, blocking normal functions. Internally, bad fats (especially oxidized fats), free radicals, and other irritating molecules act as toxins. Functionally, poor digestion, colon sluggishness and dysfunction, reduced liver function, and poor elimination through

the kidneys, respiratory tract, and skin all add to increased toxicity. Microbes, including intestinal bacteria, foreign bacteria, yeasts, and parasites, produce metabolic waste products that we must handle. Our emotions and stress generate increased biochemical toxicity. A normal functioning body was created to handle certain levels of toxins; the concern is with excess intake, production of toxins, or a reduction in the processes of elimination. Toxicity occurs in our body when we take in more than we can utilize and eliminate. A may produce an immediate or rapid onset of symptoms or cause long-term, negative effects. If our body is working well, with good immune and eliminative functions, we can handle our basic everyday exposure to toxins. Through detoxification, we clear and filter toxins and waste and allow our body to work on enhancing its basic functions.

Detoxification Organs

The liver helps transform many toxic substances into harmless agents, while the blood carries waste to the kidneys; the liver also dumps waste through the bile into the intestines, where much of it is eliminated. We also clear toxins when our body sweats. Our sinuses and skin may also be accessory elimination organs, whereby excess mucus or toxins can be released. Detoxification is the process of clearing toxins from the body by neutralizing or transforming them and clearing excess mucus and congestion. Detoxification also involves dietary and lifestyle changes that reduce intake of toxins and improve elimination. Avoidance of chemicals (from food or other sources), refined food, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, tobacco, and many drugs help to minimize the toxin load. Drinking extra water and increasing fiber by including more fruits and vegetables in the diet are steps in the detoxification process. Almost everyone needs to detoxify. We detoxify to clear symptoms, treat disease, and prevent further problems. We also detoxify to rest our overloaded organs of digestion.

With a regular balanced diet, devoid of excesses, a less intense detoxification will be indicated. Who needs to detoxify is based on individual lifestyle and symptoms of toxicity. Common toxicity symptoms include: , fatigue, mucus problems, aches and pains, digestive problems, "allergy" symptoms, and sensitivity to environmental agents such as chemicals, perfumes, and synthetics.

Food, Nutrition, and Hydration There are many levels to detoxification. The first is to eat a non-toxic diet composed of raw foods. A raw-foods diet contains lots of sprouted greens from seeds and grains, such as wheat, buckwheat, sunflower, alfalfa, clover, sprouted beans, soaked or sprouted raw nuts, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Raw foods maintain the highest concentration of vitamins, minerals and important enzymes. Water should always be used during any type of detox program to help dilute and

eliminate toxin accumulations. Supplementation is important to encourage healthy kidney and lymphatic system function, maintain healthy liver detoxification function, and promote efficient gastrointestinal elimination and blood purity. Supplementing with Juniper berry, red clover flower, collinsonia root, psyllium husk, burdock root, barley grass, Spanish black radish root, fenugreek seed, fringe tree root, fennel seed, and milk thistle addresses the functioning of each detoxification system and supports the body’s physiological functioning. Proper Functioning of Eliminatory Organs Colon cleansing is one of the most important parts of detoxification. SP Complete Shake Recipes

The protein shakes are a part of the SP Detox Cleanse and can also be a nutritional snack at home or at work. Using a hand blender is oftentimes easier, simply because it’s simple to clean. Ice or frozen berries may require a regular blender. A regular blender is also better for two people making shakes at the same time.

Issues that may arise during the SP Detox Cleanse
