N.B. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT THE READER USE 2-PAGE VIEW (BOOK FORMAT WITH SCROLLING ENABLED) IN ACROBAT READER OR BROWSER. “EVEN’ING IT OUT – A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THE LAST TWO YEARS OF “THE TWILIGHT ZONE” Television Series (minus ‘THE’)” A Study in Three Parts by Andrew Ramage © 2019, The Twilight Zone Museum. All rights reserved. Preface With some hesitation at CBS, Cayuga Productions continued Twilight Zone for what would be its last season, with a thirty-six episode pipeline – a larger count than had been seen since its first year. Producer Bert Granet, who began producing in the previous season, was soon replaced by William Froug as he moved on to other projects. The fifth season has always been considered the weakest and, as one reviewer stated, “undisputably the worst.” Harsh criticism. The lopsidedness of Seasons 4 and 5 – with a smattering of episodes that egregiously deviated from the TZ mold, made for a series much-changed from the one everyone had come to know. A possible reason for this was an abundance of rather disdainful or at least less-likeable characters. Most were simply too hard to warm up to, or at the very least, identify with. But it wasn’t just TZ that was changing. Television was no longer as new a medium. “It was a period of great ferment,” said George Clayton Johnson. By 1963, the idyllic world of the 1950s was disappearing by the day. More grittily realistic and reality-based TV shows were imminent, as per the viewing audience’s demand and it was only a matter of time before the curtain came down on the kinds of shows everyone grew to love in the 50s. -

The Twilight Zone
The Twilight Zone As a companion piece to my first paper for the Spring 2010 update of the Film Score Rundowns site, “The CBS Collection 072 UCLA,” I thought it would be fitting to offer rundowns of various written scores of the celebrated CBS series created by Rod Serling, The Twilight Zone. I worked on these scores starting in the spring of 1989 when the CBS Deed of Gift # 1 was first available to researchers. Usually I hand-copied but initially I was able to xerox some of the scores or cues thanks to the Harry Heitzer general permission that UCLA later, in a change of policy, decided to cancel. I have already delineated the episodes scored by Bernard Herrmann on my site in separate rundowns except for the pilot episode, “Where Is Everybody?” simply because the full score was not available in the collection (that I could find, anyway). Only a very elementary two-stave reduced conductor score dated 1/16/59 was available. However, I will briefly delineate this skeletal version here in this paper. I will first focus on the opening and closing themes of Marius Constant and also Herrmann’s version that I have. I will also cover the CBS Eye music by Herrmann and Goldsmith. Then I will focus on what I have of various Twilight Zone scores/cues from various composers. “Twilight Zone Theme” [“Opening Theme” designation on the reduced score] Music by Bernard Herrmann dated January 15, 1959 (dated the 16th on the reduced score). CBS cue # 1561; CBS X-58-D-3. -

An Atlas of Armageddon: Interpreting Cultural
AN ATLAS OF ARMAGEDDON: INTERPRETING CULTURAL HISTORY IN A NUCLEAR MISSILE SILO by ERIC BAUGHER (Under the Direction of Ian Firth) ABSTRACT Conventional historic preservation of military artifacts and sites is typically limited to presenting technological context and/or official military history. Cultural context is usually ignored in developing preservation strategies for these sites. This thesis explores ways in which the Atlas F Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) came to embody cultural fears and concerns about nuclear technology, including ways in which these fears were expressed in cultural media. It then goes on to argue for a more culturally inclusive, dynamic, interpretive approach to preservation of historic military landscapes and architecture. Using a specific Atlas F ICBM silo, three possible design alternatives are generated as examples of how to present relevant cultural history on such a site. INDEX WORDS: historic preservation, landscape architecture, military landscapes, public history, cultural history, Cold War, ICBM, Atlas F, nuclear missile silos, nuclear weapons, cultural museums AN ATLAS OF ARMAGEDDON: INTERPRETING CULTURAL HISTORY IN A NUCLEAR MISSILE SILO by ERIC BAUGHER BA, St. Mary's College of MD, 1998 A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of The University of Georgia in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree MASTER OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE ATHENS, GEORGIA 2003 © 2003 Eric Baugher All Rights Reserved AN ATLAS OF ARMAGEDDON: INTERPRETING CULTURAL HISTORY IN A NUCLEAR MISSILE SILO by ERIC BAUGHER Major Professor: Ian Firth Committee: Marianne Cramer James Dowd Henry Parker Electronic Version Approved: Maureen Grasso Dean of the Graduate School The University of Georgia May 2003 iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank a few folks who helped keep me sane through the process of writing this thesis. -

Blog # 56] Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 7:32 Am PDT
Film Score Blogs [Blog # 56] Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 7:32 am PDT Yesterday was a productive day working on my big RAWHIDE paper for the newest Film Score Rundowns update in a week or so. I completed 59 pages on the last 16 episodes of the Second Season plus the first ten episodes of the Third Season. I should be finished with the rest of the Third Season later this morning or early afternoon. Then I need to go back to the First Season part of my paper. I already completed 19 pages there that includes a lot of preliminary Rawhide notes & observations plus the first three aired episodes of Season One. Then I need to freshly watch the rest of that season (20 episodes) and then the first sixteen episodes of the Second Season. You see, when I just recently got The Complete Series on March 20, I started with the Third Season because I did not have previous versions of that season, whereas I had the first full season and the first half of the Second Season in my dvd collection. Hopefully I'll get done in a week or two. Meanwhile I will probably send this Blog #56 to Sarah, my site maintainer, to start updating the site, plus my already completed papers on the Obsessions (1969) complete cue rundown , and "Incident of the Devil & His Due" complete cue rundown. I rather doubt if I will do a complete paper on The Complete Series of Rawhide. I plan to tackle Season 4 & 5 & maybe 6, but we shall see. -
