SPRACH- UND KULTURKONTAKTE Heinz -Helmut Lüger Universität Koblenz-Landau Kulturspezifik und Übersetzbarkeit Kontextualisierung von Phrasemen bei Günter Grass Culture specific phrases and translatability: Contextualisation of phraseology, illustrated by the exam- ple of Günter Grass. – To what extent can phraseological units challange the translator? Do other lexical units challenge the translator in the same way? How can modifications of set phrases be translated into another languages? The article analyses some examples extracted from a literary text which is well­­‑known for its phraseo­­‑stylistic creativity: the novel Ein weites Feld of Günter Grass. Close attention will be paid to the culture­­‑specific background of the source text, the possible equivalence as well as further equivalence solutions in target languages like French and Italian.1 Keywords: translatability, cultural knowledge, intertextual phenomena, framing, rhetorical devices, culture -based phrasemes Kulturspezifik und Übersetzbarkeit. Kontextualisierung von Phrasemen bei Günter Grass. – Inwieweit stellen Phraseme für Übersetzer eine Herausforderung dar? Führen andere lexikalische Einheiten in gleicher Weise zu Übersetzungsproblemen? Wie lassen sich Modifikationen vorgeprägter Ausdrücke in andere Spra- chen übertragen? Der vorliegende Beitrag untersucht Beispiele, die einem literarischen Text entnommen sind, der bekannt ist für seine phraseostilistische Kreativität: Gemeint ist der Roman Ein weites Feld von Günter Grass. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit gilt dem kulturspezifischen Hintergrund des Basistexts, möglichen Äqui- valenzen wie überhaupt der Gleichwertigkeit französischer und italienischer Übersetzungen. Schlüsselwörter: Übersetzbarkeit, kulturelles Wissen, Intertextualität, semantische Rahmung, rhetorische Elemente, kulturspezifische Phraseme Zwroty i translatywność specyfiki kulturowej: kontekstualizacja frazeologii na przykładzie Güntera Grassa. – Do jakiego stopnia jednostki frazeologiczne specyficzne kulturowo mogą wpływać na zmianę tłumaczenia? Czy inne jednostki leksykalne zmieniają znaczenie w ten sam sposób? W jaki sposób można tłumaczyć modyfikacje struktur frazowych na inny język? Niniejszy artykuł analizuje kilka wybranych przy- kładów z tekstów literackich dobrze znanych z kreatywnej stylistyki frazeologicznej: opowiadanie Ein weites Feld Güntera Grassa. Kreativer Phrasemgebrauch Günter Grass gehört ohne Frage zu den Autoren, die sich durch einen anspielungsreichen, origi- nellen und anspruchsvollen Sprachstil auszeichnen. Nicht selten sieht sich der Leser mit Situationen konfrontiert, wo die Wahl zwischen verschiedenen Interpretationen oder Lesarten eher schwierig erscheint. Ebenso finden sich des öfteren historische Bezüge, mehr oder weniger versteckte Zitate, überraschende Wortkompositionen oder rätselhafte metaphorische Ausdrücke, also alles Merk- male, die vom Leser einiges an Vorwissen und auch eine gewisse Anstrengung beim Textverstehen fordern. Die Sinnsuche gestaltet sich in der Tat vielfach als intensive Arbeit, einfache Bedeutungs- zuschreibungen sind nur begrenzt möglich. Die genannten Aspekte dürften in besonderem Maße und aus verschiedenen Gründen auch für den 1995 erschienenen Roman Ein weites Feld gelten.2 Mit Blick auf die Sprachgestaltung des gewählten Romantexts spielen feste Wortverbin- dungen bzw. phraseologische Ausdrücke oder Phraseme eine spezielle Rolle. Hierzu werden nach einem gängigen Begriffsverständnis durchweg polylexikale Ausdrücke gerechnet, die wenigstens zwei autosemantische Komponenten aufweisen. In unserem Bezugstext findet sich eine große Bandbreite vorgeprägter Wortverbindungen:3 • verbale Phraseme: eine Kröte schlucken → frz. avaler la couleuvre → it. inghiottire il rospo • nominale Phraseme: die gute Sache → frz. la bonne cause → it. il fatto positivo • adverbiale Phraseme: partout nicht → frz. à aucun prix → it. non assolutamente • adjektivische Phraseme: arm an Worten → frz. avare de mots → it. avaro di parole • präpositionale Phraseme: unter Palmen → frz. sous les cocotiers → it. sotto le palme Natürlich ließe sich eine solche allgemeine Untergliederung noch weiter vertiefen, aber da es in diesem Beitrag nicht darum geht, eine neue Klassifikation phraseologischer Einheiten vorzuschlagen,

This policy reversal was chosen, primarily, for tactical reasons and only second• arily for ideological reasons. Prom the outset, it is true, relations with Russia were made difficult by Hitler's per• secution of the German Communist Party and by his own hatred for Bolshevism. But it was only after Poland had twice threatened a preventative war against Germany and after Germany had become diplomatically isolated through her desertion of the League of Nations, that Hitler decided upon a rapprochement with Poland and a break with Russia. This policy was finalized by the German-Polish Non-Aggression Pact of January, 1934• The political orientation of German foreign policy, established by this pact, remained fixed in its outlines for the following five years. During these years, Hitler used the anti-Communist bogey.to justify his foreign policy coups and to ease his relations with Poland. Russia herself, he ignored as a power factor in opposition. Nor did he consider a political understanding with her. However, he did toy with the idea of her as an object of aggression.

    Interdisciplinary Studies in Musicology 11,2012 © PTPN & Wydawnictwo Naukowe UAM, Poznań 2012 DANUTA SZLAGOWSKA Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music, Gdańsk Seventeenth-century Gdansk instrumental music sources ABSTRACT: This article represents an attempt to provide a synthetic presentation of seventeenth-century Gdańsk instrumental music sources, comprising three groups: 1 - manuscripts and old prints, currently found in Gdańsk or elsewhere, that include works by musicians who were active in Gdańsk; 2 - manu­ scripts from Gdańsk libraries that include works by composers not active in Gdańsk; 3 - manuscripts of Gdańsk provenance, now held in libraries outside Gdańsk, that include works by composers not active in Gdańsk. Several types of sources have survived that are characteristic of the age in which they were created. These include lute tablatures, keyboard tablatures and manuscripts and old prints with compositions for various forces, including keyboard instruments, solo instruments (violin, cornet) with b.c., a 2 and a 3 type compositions for violin (in one case for cornet and bassoon with b.c.) and also larger ensembles, chiefly strings with b.c. The repertoire of the Gdańsk sources is similar to that of other seventeenth- century European sources. It includes dances, canzonas, fantasias, preambles, sonatas, suites and, in the earliest manuscripts, intabulations of both religious and secular songs. In total, there are some 800 extant compositions, of which the vast majority (around 700) are found in lute and keyboard tablatures. Some compositions may be considered unique in Old Polish instrumental music. They are works by the composers Marcin Gremboszewski and Heinrich Dóbel, who were active in Gdańsk, representing early examples of solo compositions for cornet and violin with b.c., as well as a chamber piece for cornet and bassoon with b.c.

This study first explores the rivalries that characterized the bureaucracy in the Third Reich. It argues that those rivalries negatively affected Germany’s diplomatic position in Argentina. The actions of the AO in Argentina in the 1930s were indicative of this trend. This created a fear of fifth-column activity among Latin American governments with large German populations. Second, this study explores the rivalry between the Sicherheitsdienst (Security Service, SD) of the Reichssicherheitshauptamt (Reich Security Main Office, RSHA) and Auswärtiges Amt (Foreign Ministry, AA). It argues that the rivalry between these two organizations in Argentina was part of a larger plan on the part of Amt VI, SS Foreign Intelligence to usurp the functions of the AA.

After March 1939 (British guarantee of Polish independence), the Epilogue carries the story up to the German and Soviet attacks on Poland in September 1939. A more detailed account, based on archival and published sources available since 1968, is given in the article “Poland in British and French Policy in 1939: determination to fight – or avoid war?” (The Polish Review, vol. XXXIV, 1989, no.3; reprinted with minor abbreviations in Patrick Finney, ed., The Origins of the Second World War, London, New York, Sidney, Auckland, 1997, pp. 413‐432). There are some errors in the book, written without the benefit of Google and online sources, unavailable at the time.
