An essential recording! TOM WAITS Bad As Me USA Gravelly-voiced poet and musical maverick Tom Waits returns with this strong batch of rocking blues stompers and tender ballads, joined by the likes of Keith Richards, Marc Ribot and David Hidalgo. Beginning with a train journey north to Chicago and ending in a bar on New Year’s eve (singing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ no less) this is a trip worth taking. Highly recommended! KIRAN AHLUWALIA Aam Zameen: Common Ground Canada Indo-Canadian vocalist Kiran Ahluwalia, known for her beautifully updated Ghazal music, this time does some continent hopping as she collaborates with desert blues sensations Tinariwen and Terakaft. From the opening take on Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s classic ‘Mustt Mustt’, propelled by handclaps and call and response vocals, we are in for an exciting cross-cultural musical feast. WILCO The Whole Love USA The 8th release by Jeff Tweedy and cohorts impressively reprises the various musical inclinations of this effortlessly creative group. From the off-kilter whirlwind of the opener to the epic beauty of the 12 minute closer, this is an album by a band at the top of their game.

news #34 MUNGOLIAN JETSET - MUNGODELICS Hot on the heels of 2011`s "Schlungs", the Jetsetters have kept those buttons busily pushed, and are already here with their next chapter installment, featuring 8 new nuggets entitled "Mungodelics". The album is essentially a psychodramatic sequel to the highly acclaimed "We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back" album of 2009, as it is musically a blend of originals and remakes made into originals, as well as solo performances and external collaborations from the band`s musical core members, Knut Saevik and Paul "Strangefruit" Nyhus. All in all, "Mungodelics" musically summons everything that is hazy, dazy, underearthly and crazy. This is the Mungolian Jetset taking you on a ride through the seasons, and shifts of the days and nights, from the Cantina to the Ewok forest, via ritualistic dancing at Kilmin Taboour and stellar swimming in the galactic Goa. The Joel Katz Story, Part 4: The Music Continues By Charlie Horner With Contributions from Pamela Horner End of an Era: The Passing of Ronnie I The year was 2008, a year that tore the heart out of many of us. It was the year Ronnie I died. Joel Katz and Ronnie I had been working closely together for al- most 30 years. There were times when Ronnie would be over Joel’s Broadway South constantly, recording groups. All told, Ronnie recorded and released approximately 1500 songs with Joel, over the years. They came out on Ronnie’s Clifton, UGHA and Ronnie label 45’s EP’s LP’s and CD’s. And those were just the songs that were re- leased. There are probably just as many recorded songs still unreleased. But Ronnie I and Joel Katz were more than just business partners. They were close friends and Joel took Ronnie’s passing very hard. Joel and the Clif- tonaires visited Ronnie the day before he died. “We just said goodbye to him,” Joel recalled. Joan and Joel Katz in Sean Lennon’s Studio “That was one of the toughest things I ever did. • DIVIDE and CONQUER- the STORY of ROGER AILES Press Notes
Presents DIVIDE AND CONQUER: THE STORY OF ROGER AILES A film by Alexis Bloom 107 mins, USA, 2018 Language: English Distribution Publicity Mongrel Media Inc Bonne Smith 1352 Dundas St. West Star PR Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M6J 1Y2 Tel: 416-488-4436 Tel: 416-516-9775 Fax: 416-516-0651 Twitter: @starpr2 E-mail: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] www.mongrelmedia.com SYNOPSIS This is a film that sheds light on the current moment in American political life by following the arc of Roger Ailes: long-time Republican svengali and controversial founder of Fox News. By coaching an unrivaled stable of politicians over the course of fifty years, Ailes heavily influenced Republican politics, steering the conservative movement from Nixon, to the Tea Party, to Trump. Under his tutelage, anger and fear became the coin of the realm, both on the ballot and on national television. Diagnosed with hemophilia at an early age, it took someone intimate with fear to skillfully manipulate the fear of others. With Rupert Murdoch behind him, Roger Ailes started Fox News and turned it into a money- making juggernaut, with profits exceeding those of all its rivals combined. He discarded notions of traditional journalism and turned prime time television into flame-throwing TV. Short skirts and low necklines mesmerized his audience and, as long as Fox made money, there was little oversight of his fiefdom. But the carnival house mirror Ailes put up to America reflected his own distorted personal life. This is a story of serial cruelty, both on the public stage and in private life.

  • Re:Generation Music Project
RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT EPK RE:GENERATION Song By Song The RE:GENERATION MUSIC PROJECT, produced in association with The GRAMMYs® and presented by Hyundai Veloster, examines the history of different music through the eyes of five of the most influential electronic producer/DJ’s in music today. For the project, Mark Ronson, DJ Premier, The Crystal Method, Pretty Lights and Skrillex each take a specific musical style and explore it by writing and recording a brand new track with a grouping of influential collaborators in that genre. SKRILLEX hit a Los Angeles studio with Members of The Doors in order to re-envision rock 'n' roll on "Breakn' a Sweat.” Meanwhile, THE CRYSTAL METHOD touched down in Detroit to work with Martha Reeves of The Vandellas and The Funk Brothers on an R&B number entitled "I'm Not Leaving.” Then there's MARK RONSON's southern brew of New Orleans jazz, "A La Modeliste," boasting a veritable all-star cast: Erykah Badu, Trombone Shorty, Mos Def, Zigaboo Modeliste and Members of The Dap Kings. DJ PREMIER tapped Nas and Boston's very own Berklee Symphony Orchestra for "Regeneration.” Everything culminates on the dusty, intergalactic twang in Nashville of PRETTY LIGHTS' "Wayfaring Stranger" with LeAnn Rimes and Dr. Ralph Stanley. We've arrived at the ultimate 21st century musical crossroads where vinyl is still a part of the music mainstay, but sounds are taking a whole new direction. The entire experience comes to life in the RE:GENERATION feature documentary directed by award-winning documentarian Amir Bar-Lev (“MY KID COULD PAINT THAT,” “THE TILLMAN STORY”) due in theaters nationwide this February.

  • What Is Blues Dancing? Shaped by the African
Blues Dancing and its African American ROOTS WHAT IS BLUES DANCING? “Blues dance” is a new name describing a family of dances done to blues music and created within African American communites. Writng in the 1970s, African American jazz critc Albert Murray was the frst to categorize these dances as “blues-idiom.” Murray’s descripton of reactons to blues music—spontaneity, improvisaton, and control—applies to blues dance as well. SHAPED BY THE AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE Despite enslavers’ atempts to eradicate African Americans’ heritage, African roots persist and are evident in blues music and dance characteristcs such as layering rhythms, emphasis on improvisaton, and a call and response format. Lyrics and music express everyday life experiences, ofen refectng themes of hardship, from racism and poverty to personal relatonships. Learning by watching and copying, as well as valuing innovaton and creaton of an individual’s unique personal style within the given aesthetc, is also part of the cultural traditon. Music and movement for African Americans during enslavement was ofen limited to actvites such as Christan prayer meetngs, work chants, and entertainment for plantaton owners. Afer emancipaton, African Americans gradually had more freedom to gather, play music, and dance on their own. Field hands in the South socialized in juke joints, small shacks where beer and liquor were sold, one or two local musicians played, and people danced. In Northern cites during the Great Migraton of the 1920s, middle-class blues and jazz musicians and dancers gathered in small apartments for occasions like rent partes. African Americans danced—and contnue to dance—on front porches and street corners, and in homes, back rooms of restaurants, community centers, and ballrooms.

  • Rock Album Discography Last Up-Date: September 27Th, 2021
Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.
