This area is a disaster prone area but has considerable potential as a tourist destination because of the beauty of the panorama of Mount and Lake Baturnya. Mount Batur with its crater lake since September 20, 2012 has officially entered into the network of UNESCO Global Earth Park (Global Geopark). “Taman Bumi Batur” is the first geopark in Indonesia. The three pillars of geopark development are based on: 1) protection and conservation aspects; 2) Aspects of education by organizing activities and providing information to the public about geosciences knowledge as well as environmental and cultural concepts; 3) Aspects of local economic value development through sustainable tourism activities (geotourism).
