Start at a beachside hotel in Seminyak, Kerobokan or Canggu; shop the streets and spend time at the beach. Enjoy a seafood dinner on Jimbaran Bay as part of a day trip to the monkey-filled temple at Ulu Watu. In the east, take the coast road to wild beaches like the one near Pura Masceti, fol- lowed by the town of Klungkung (Semarapura), once the royal seat of Bali’s most important kingdom. Head north up to Sideman, which combines rice terraces with lush river valleys and cloud-shrouded mountains. Then go west to Ubud, the crowning glory on any itinerary. To spoil yourself, stay in one of Ubud’s many hotels with views across rice fields and rivers. Sample the offerings at a spa before you try one of the myriad great restaurants. Bali’s rich culture is most celebrated and most accessible in Ubud and you’ll be capti- vated by nightly dance performances. Check out local craft studios, including the wood- carvers of Mas. Be sure to get to the trendy restaurants and cafes of Canggu before you leave this part of south Bali behind. Maybe you can learn how to surf, or at least brush up on your skills, before you head south to Bingin and its cliff-side inns overlooking the surf. Make the short drive down to Bukit Peninsula’s spiritual centre (and monkey home) Pura Luhur Ulu Watu and explore the secluded beaches at the bottom of Bali, such as Green Bowl Beach. Take a trip through Denpasar and stop at the excellent local restaurants and mu- seum. Next, Bali’s ancient rice terraces will exhaust your abilities to describe green. Sam- ple these in a drive up to the terraces of Jatiluwih followed by the lyrical Pura Luhur Batukau. Make your way over the mountains via the Antosari Road, pausing at a remote hotel on the way. Head west to Pemuteran, where the hotels and resorts define relaxation. Dive or snorkel nearby Pulau Menjangan in Bali Barat National Park. It’s renowned for its coral and sheer 30m wall. Lovina is a good break on a route around the coast to Tulamben, where scores of people explore the shattered hulk of a WWII freighter underwater. Get some serious chill time on the Amed Coast before the short jaunt to Tirta Gangga and hikes through rice fields and up jungle-clad hills to remote temples. Continue to Padangbai and then take back roads to Ubud. Find your favourite cafe and let the world wander past, or rid yourself of travel kinks at a spa. You might consider staying at one of the iconic family homestays, taking gentle walks through rice fields by day and marvelling at dance per- formances at night. When you’re ready and rested, get a fast boat from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan. This little island has its own buzz, with a string of hotels – from basic to semiposh – lining its sands. Begin your trip at Bingin. Settle back in the sand and let the jet lag vanish. Then move to Canggu for Bali’s hippest scene. Transit through Denpasar for a purely Ba- linese lunch and head up the hill to Ubud to get a taste of traditional Balinese culture over two or three days. Next, visit the Jatiluwih Rice Fields, centuries old rice terraces that have received Unesco World Heritage status in recognition of their ancient rice- growing culture. Next, head west to the village of Munduk, which looks down to the north coast and the sea beyond. Go for a walk in the area and enjoy waterfalls, truly tiny villages, wild fruit trees and the sinuous ribbons of rice paddies lining the hills. Then head south to the wonderful temple of Pura Luhur Batukau and consider a trek up Bali’s second- highest mountain, Gunung Batukau. Recover with some chill-out time on popular Balian Beach, just west. Next, bounce across the waves from Sanur to Nusa Lembongan, the island hiding in the shadow of Nusa Penida. The latter is visible from much of the south and east – it makes a good day trip.

Salah satu pulau di Indonesia yang sangat disegani yakni Pulau Bali. Pulau Bali dikenal dengan julukan “Pulau Beribu Pura”. Pulau yang memiliki luas 5.780 km2, memiliki pura yang tersebar disegala penjuru. Bahkan pada setiap jengkal tanah di Bali dapat kita jumpai pura, baik yang terdapat disetiap rumah masyarakat Hindu maupun disetiap sudut daerah atau desa di Bali. Dalam ajaran Agama Hindu terdapat pembagian pura yang digolongkan berdasarkan klasifikasi tertentu. Pada setiap desa terdapat tiga pura utama yang disebut sebagai Pura Khayangan Tiga, kemudian dalam lingkup yang lebih besar ada Pura yang tergolong Pura Sad Khayangan Jagat yang terdiri atas enam pura utama, kemudian pura yang termasuk kedalam Pura Khayangan Jagat yang terdiri dari sembilan pura penguasa arah mata angin. Kemudian Pura Dhang Khayangan yang didirikan oleh tokoh penting keagamaan pada zaman kejayaan Hindu di Bali. Pura Dhang Kahyangan dijadikan tempat penghormatan atas jasa yang dilakukan oleh tokoh tersebut, yang diyakini telah membantu masyarakat daerah Bali Kuno dalam menyelesaikan masalah mereka. 1 2 Salah satu yang temasuk tiga pura terbesar di Bali selain Pura Besakih di Kabupaten Karangasem dan Pura Ulun Danu Batur di Kabupaten Bangli yakni Pura Sad Kahyangan Lempuyang Luhur di Kabupaten Karangasem. Pura Sad Kahyangan Lempuyang Luhur memiliki peran yang sangat penting bagi Umat Hindu di Bali. JORDAAN Bělahan and the division of Airlangga’s realm Introduction While investigating the role of the Śailendra dynasty in early eastern Javanese history, I became interested in exploring what relationship King Airlangga had to this famous dynasty. The present excursion to the royal bathing pla- ce at Bělahan is an art-historical supplement to my inquiries, the findings of which have been published elsewhere (Jordaan 2006a). As this is a visit to a little-known archaeological site, I will first provide some background on the historical connection, and the significance of Bělahan for ongoing research on the Śailendras. The central figure in this historical reconstruction is Airlangga (991-circa 1052 CE), the ruler who managed to unite eastern Java after its disintegration into several petty kingdoms following the death of King Dharmawangśa Těguh and the nobility during the destruction of the eastern Javanese capital in 1006 (Krom 1913). From 1021 to 1037, the name of princess Śrī Sanggrāmawijaya Dharmaprasādottunggadewī (henceforth Sanggrāmawijaya) appears in sev- eral of Airlangga’s edicts as the person holding the prominent position of rakryān mahāmantri i hino (‘First Minister’), second only to the king. Based on the findings of the first part of my research, I maintain that Sanggrāmawijaya was the daughter of the similarly named Śailendra king, Śrī Sanggrāma- wijayottunggavarman, who was the ruler of the kingdom of Śrīvijaya at the time. It seems plausible that the Śailendra princess was given in marriage to Airlangga to cement a political entente between the Śailendras and the Javanese. We gaped at the waves crashing 230 ft below, unaware that the real spectacle was about to unfold elsewhere. A short walk led us to an amphitheatre overlooking the dramatic seascape. In the middle, around a sacred lamp, fifty bare-chested performers sat in concentric rings, unperturbed by the hushed conversations of the packed audience. They sat in meditative repose, with cool sandalwood paste smeared on their temples and flowers tucked behind their ears. Sharp at six, chants of cak ke-cak stirred the evening air.     1 ARSITEKTUR HINDU BUDHA A. PERKEMBANGAN HINDU DAN BUDHA DI INDONESIA 1. Sejarah dan Berkembangnya Agama Hindu-Buddha Agama Hindu di sebarkan oleh Bangsa Arya (Bangsa Pendatang) setelah masuk melalui celah Carber yang memisahkan daratan Eropa dan Asia. Bangsa Arya merasa nyaman tinggal karena India adalah daerah yang subur. Bangsa Arya mengalahkan Bangsa asli India (Dravida). Cara Bangsa Arya mengeksistensikan bangsanya di India dengan cara membuat Kasta, yaitu pelapisan masyarakat. Perbedaan Bangsa Arya dengan Bangsa Dravida itu sendiri terdapat pada bagian fisiknya, yaitu Bangsa Arya berkulit putih sedangkan Bangsa Dravida berkulit hitam. Pusat kebudayaan Hindu adalah di Mohenjo Daro (Lakarna) dan Harapa (Punjat) yang tumbuh sekitar 1.500 SM. Agama Hindu dalam pelaksanaan ritual ibadah (penyampaian doa kepada dewa) harus di lakukan oleh Kaum Brahmana saja. Sehingga kaum-kaum di bawahnya merasa kesulitan ketika kaum Brahmana meminta qurban (pembayaran yang berlebih) kepada kaum-kaum di bawahnya yang meminta tolong untuk disampaikan doanya kepada dewa-dewa mereka. Sehingga banyak masyarakat yang berpindah agama menjadi agama Budha. PERBEDAAN HINDU DAN BUDHA HINDU BUDHA Muncul sebagai perpaduan budaya bangsa Aria Muncul sebagai hasil pemikiran dan pencerahan dan bangsa Dravida yang diperoleh Sidharta dalam rangka mencari jalan lain menuju kesempurnaan(nirwana) Kitab sucinya, WEDA Kitab Sucinya, TRIPITAKA Mengakui 3 dewa tertinggi yang disebut Trimurti Mengakui Sidharta Gautama sebagai guru besar/ pemimpin agama Budha Kehidupan masyarakat
