At twenty he was employed in Newcastle as an Industrial Photographer gaining knowledge in all forms of photography. Alex began judging photography at the same time although it was very daunting for a young and shy boy to tell experienced mono workers that their prints were flat. Alex worked there for 30 years doing other jobs but al- ways remaining a photographer. He is a member of a much bigger Belmont Camera Photographic Club as well as being a member of Newcastle Photographic Society. At 79 Alex is still going strong taking photographs but not able to go to some of the more difficult places anymore. Margaret Zommer EFIAP MAPS PPSA Photography combines many of Margaret’s passions – travel, history, art, creativity, and even teaching. She goes overseas on photography trips every year, and enjoys editing the resulting images to put in international compe- titions and into photobooks. Her success with the former has led to GMAPS, EFIAP/b and PPSA. After ten years of specialising in landscapes, environmental portraits, and medieval architecture, she has branched out into crea- tive art using her photos as the medium of expression. Currently she is also honing her skills with studio portraits, as connecting with people is one of her great pleasures. When an image maker finds her remarks insightful both compositionally and technically, she feels she is giving back to a community that has helped her for the last ten years. She is on the VAPS committee as the Badges and Awards Officer and on her local club’s committee. Leanne Alessi EFIAP/s GMAPS PPSA Leanne has been passionate about photography for more than 30 years and is a multi-award winning national and international photographer and judge. She has gained her EFIAP/Silver, PPSA, GMAPS and EMFCC distinc- tions in four short years. Leanne was a member of Campbelltown Camera Club in the early mid 1990s, a former member of St George Photographic Society, a moderator for a former photographic website, Passion for Pixels; is a member of Terra Australis Photography Group; the Australian Photographic Society (APS) and the Photo- graphic Society of America (PSA). She has recently taken on the Honorary Secretary’s role of the newly formed Ingleburn RSL Photography Club. She loves to travel and bush camp in Australia's remote outback as often as possible to behold and capture the exquisite landscapes our wonderful country has to offer. Alfred Zommer EFIAP MAPS PPSA Alfred began to take photographs on his Box Brownie at the age of 10. Alfred began to take photography seri- ously again about 12 years ago when he joined a camera club. After a couple of years he joined the committee and held several positions including president for four years. He is currently Vice President of VAPS, a committee member of the Australian Photographic Judges Association and the Chairman of the APS Honours subcommit- tee. He has judged at club National level for the last eight years. Having retired, he enjoys taking many photo- graphs, while travelling extensively every year, and exhibiting them in club and interclub competitions. He also exhibits nationally and internationally with success. Pia Jessen EFIAP/s GMAPS Pia is the current Exhibitions Director of the Australian Photographic Society and also Program Director of the Redlands Camera Club in Qld, Australia.
