9:45 – 10:30 a.m. Passato e presente - Meet with summer students Cost – Included in package. The past meets the present as alumni pair off with current summer program students to compare notes and reflect on what has changed and what has stayed the same. A great opportunity to share memories and give back by inspiring current students on how to channel study abroad experience toward professional goals. 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. La Villa Rossa e la sua storia – Guided visit of the Syracuse Florence campus Cost – Included in package. Take a walk down memory lane and learn about the history of the program and its storied buildings from their foundations up to the present day. Discover the many innovations and projects that have shaped it over the decades in our rigorous commitment to improving the global learning experience of our students. To kick off our lunch reception we will hold an honorary tree-planting ceremony celebrating the history and growth of the program, rooted in a strong tradition of global education and branching out to meet the future, serving past, present, and prospective students. During the catered lunch that follows under the wisteria, alumni can mingle with Syracuse faculty, staff, and local dignitaries and partners, including US Consul General Benjamin Wohlauer who will talk about the wonderful story of educational exchange that has shaped the bilateral Italy-US partnership. Relive your time as a student abroad by rolling up your sleeves and getting those creative juices flowing with a selection of hands-on learning activities guided by our engaging expert faculty. Whether your hands get dirty with paint stains as you put brush to canvas in our studios or with flour as you make a local dish in a professional kitchen, the afternoon is sure to be a memorable one. Una mattinata tra le colline fiorentine – Explore Fiesole Tour the ancient Etruscan town of Fiesole with its breathtaking views of Florence, discover the archeological treasures with our faculty and learn about the ancient civilizations that shaped Florence’s heritage and traditions. If you find yourself wishing you could wrap up the experience and take it home, choose between a guided photo shoot and plein-air sketching with our studio arts professors to follow in the footsteps of all the famous artists that have been transformed by these very same vistas. Location: Fiesole (hilltop town north of Florence) 1. Il Rinascimento e i suoi maestri – The and Academia Galleries Spend time with the Renaissance treasures of Florence as the city celebrates the 500th anniversary of the death of the great . Take a guided stroll through the newly renovated Uffizi galleries to learn more about the vast legacy left by this visionary in engineering, architecture, botany and anatomy, physics and chemistry, painting and design, and the impact he left on even his greatest contemporaries. Then head over for an in-depth look at Michelangelo’s most famous sculpture, the , and rediscover why it became such an iconic symbol of the city and indeed of the Renaissance itself. We hope you will come away inspired by these Early Modern artists who walked the very same streets of Florence as you over half a millennium ago. Location: Florence city center 2. Il mondo della moda – Fashion Florence The cloth industry has been at the heart of Florence’s civic identity and economy from Roman times when Florentines were treating fabric in the ancient “fullonica” near . Even today, Florence remains a center for global trendspotting as fashionistas descend upon the city several times a year for its annual Pitti trade fairs. Our visit begins in the section of the city that was the heart of cloth-making during the Middle Ages, with a private visit to the sumptuous Antico Setificio Fiorentino, where artisan talent meets high- end luxury, silk is still woven by expert hands, and the finished product graces the homes of modern royalty. We will continue with a tour of Via Tournabuoni, learning how the big names turned cloth into haute couture and led Italy to become synonymous with fashion. We will finish with a visit to the Gucci Garden museum, the fashion house’s homage to the city and their legacy, with historic pieces from their archives and one-of-a kind creations from their current line sold exclusively here. All groups reunite for lunch and lively conversation while enjoying the view from the terrace of a traditional Tuscan restaurant overlooking Florence. 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Buon anniversario – Syracuse Florence’s 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner Cost – Included in package. The celebrations for Syracuse Florence’s sixtieth anniversary gala close with an exclusive reception for our treasured alumni, together with local dignitaries and partners, including US Consul General Benjamin Wohlauer, at a renowned restaurant with stunning views overlooking the Arno River. Location: Sesto on Arno, Westin Excelsior, Piazza Ognissanti 3 Saturday, June 1

9:30 am – 6 p.m. Un giorno nel Chianti - Into the heart of Chianti Cost - Additional $450 per person. Take a journey through cypress-lined roads, with silvery glints of olive groves and rigorous rows of vineyards in the countryside symbolized by the black rooster and the historic rivalry between the two cities that frame its borders: Florence and Siena. It is a land shaped not only by Italian hands, but also by foreign ones, people who have immortalized this land through literature and art, and even defended it with their own lives. The itinerary will begin with a visit to the American Cemetery and a discussion of the tremendous impact that Americans have had on Florence in recent centuries. We will then continue with a private visit to a world-class winery with an expert sommelier who will guide you through some of the most prestigious Tuscan wines. The day will continue with a food- and-wine paired lunch in the fairytale setting of the Badia a Passignano, followed by a guided tour of the artistic treasures of the nearby abbey. We will finish the afternoon in the picturesque town of Greve in Chianti for a brief stroll while enjoying a local gelato.
