  • Poliça and Stargaze Kick Off Their East Coast Tour with a Residency and Showing at MASS Moca on Thursday, February 15, at 8Pm
For Immediate Release 16 November 2017 Contact: Jodi Joseph Director of Communications 413.664.4481 x8113 [email protected] POLIÇA and s t a r g a z e Pop music disassembled NORTH ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS — s t a r g a z e, Berlin’s new music mavericks, joins forces with the brooding pop of Poliça to create a new evening-length work Music for the Long Emergency, commissioned by and premiered with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Liquid Music Series and now further developed by curatorial collective Infinite Palette. Pitchfork describes Poliça as “digitized Norah Jones atop Radiohead at its most polyrhythmic.” Fold in one of Europe’s hottest ensembles for a sense of this boundary-breaking collaboration. A new work for the ensemble by Daniel Wohl will open the show at MASS MoCA on Thursday, February 15, at 8pm. Emerging from a collaboration between producer Ryan Olson, the mastermind behind the neo-soul collective Gayngs, and vocalist Channy Leaneagh, formerly of folk-rock duo Roma di Luna, the Minneapolis-based synth-pop group Poliça (stylized POLIÇA) formed with the aim of “escaping to a different reality,” says Leaneagh (Rolling Stone). Its debut album Give You the Ghost, written in just two heady weeks, is a doorway to another world of hypnotic crystalline loops and fluidly funky basslines. To complete this psychedelic outfit, the duo tapped Chris Bierden (bass), Drew Christopherson (drums), and Ben Ivascu (drums) to join Leaneagh in the studio and on stage. Less than six months after its live debut, and days after its first album release in February 2012, Poliça was receiving star-studded praise, most notably from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, who told Rolling Stone, “They’re the best band I’ve ever heard.” When Poliça released its highly anticipated follow-up album a year later, the acclaimed Berlin-based conductor André de Ridder was in the midst of founding Stargaze (stylized s t a r g a z e), a network of multi-talented and classically trained European musicians.

MEDIA RELEASE FRIDAY 29 APRIL 2016 POLIÇA SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE DEBUT FRIDAY 3 JUNE, 7:30pm, JOAN SUTHERLAND THEATRE “They’re the best band I’ve ever heard” JUSTIN VERNON (BON IVER) “Excitingly upbeat electronica” THE GUARDIAN Joining their Midwestern contemporaries and sometimes collaborators Bon Iver for Vivid LIVE, the synth-driven five-piece Poliça makes its Sydney Opera House debut in the Joan Sutherland Theatre on Friday 3 June as part of this year’s Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. An electronic experiment that resulted from the unlikely pairing of folk singer Channy Leaneagh and soft-rock Gayngs producer Ryan Olson, Poliça is an acclaimed and exciting voice in modern protest music. Their latest release, Wedding, crafts synthesised vocals, bass and dueling drummers into a powerful response to the 2015 rioting in the Minneapolis band’s hometown.. Combining protest with the personal, the group’s third album, United Crushers traces struggles of all kinds – against social injustice, urban decline and self-doubt. To NME Magazine the group has “excelled themselves with the most intimate and empowering album of their career”. Celebrated by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver as “the best band I’ve ever heard” and following up a sold- out Sydney debut in 2012, frontwoman Leaneagh channels escapist dance, drum ‘n’ bass, hip-hop and synth-pop into a passionate performance ready for the Joan Sutherland Theatre Stage. • Doomtree All Hands Free Download Doomtree - All Hands (2015) Wings and Teeth
doomtree all hands free download Doomtree - All Hands (2015) Wings and teeth. No two symbols could've been better chosen to represent Minneapolis rap stalwarts Doomtree. The endlessly innovative crew/label has defied categorization from the start, leaving behind convention for what's best described as aggressive transcendence. Through a tireless work ethic, take-no prisoners production, lyrics that never shy from truth, and an always shifting stylistic mix, this family has carved out an elevated corner unto itself. And like most families, as well as the imagery this one employs, Doomtree is as defined by its internal differences as its similarities: Seven artists whose diversity of tastes and consistency of character combine to make the team an unstoppable, honest, creatively vicious whole. It's unsurprising then that Doomtree's origins are a decade deep, dating back to 2001 when a handful of friends fresh out of high school hatched a plan to make a life out of the passion that'd carried them that far. Handmade CD-Rs (the start of their cult-beloved False Hopes series) and local shows (echoed by the annual Doomtree Blowout festival today) evolved into a proper business and respectable home base. In the time since, P.O.S. Dessa, Sims, Cecil Otter, Mike Mictlan, Lazerbeak and Paper Tiger have become stars in their own right, but no matter where their careers take them (poetry books, the Gayngs super-band with Bon Iver, records with Rhymesayers, Strange Famous and Frenchkiss), they always come home. While 2008's full-crew album Doomtree functioned as a group manifesto and (re)introduction to each member's particular charms, 2011 was all about claiming what was already theirs.

  • Bon Iver & TU Dance
For Immediate Release 13 December 2017 Contact: Jodi Joseph Director of Communications 413.664.4481 x8113 [email protected] Bon Iver & TU Dance “Endlessly ecstatic and three-dimensional” — NPR NORTH ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS — Repeat Grammy Award-winner and endlessly influential balladeer Justin Vernon, aka Bon Iver, visits MASS MoCA to perform a work-in-progress score alongside dance company TU Dance. The company’s co- founder and “incredible polyrhythmic genius” (Star Tribune), Uri Sands, guides his troupe through movement that lilts and tumbles alongside Vernon’s expansive sound. The new work will officially premiere with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Liquid Music Series on April 19 in Saint Paul, MN, but you can see it first in North Adams on Saturday, March 24, at 8pm, and Sunday, March 25, at 2pm. Since Bon Iver’s debut album For Emma, Forever Ago was released in July 2007, Justin Vernon has captured the hearts of critics and fans alike. Isolating himself in northwestern Wisconsin during the writing and recording process, his aching folk tunes featured natural imagery and contemplative verses with a dynamic and experimental edge. Vernon wrote all the lyrics, played all the instruments, and recorded each track, heavily edited with a large number of overdubs in a style now associated with the band. In 2012, the band received four Grammy nominations, winning for Best New Artist and Best Alternative Music Album for sophomore effort Bon Iver, Bon Iver, which was also named Pitchfork’s number one album of 2011. The album marked a shift from a solitary project into something that felt more like the work of a group.
