Welcome Message of the 22nd Korean Epilepsy Congress in Seoul

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of Korean Epilepsy Society (KES), I would like to extend my warmest welcome to all the colleagues attending the 22nd Korean Epilepsy Congress (KEC 2017) to be held in Seoul, Korea from June 30th to July 1st, 2017. The scientific program of our annual international con- gress will cover cutting-edge basic and clinical knowledge and research in the field of epilepsy. It will be an instructive and entertaining experience through presentations from the leaders in the field of epilepsy, including lectures by world-famous researchers, scientists and colleagues from Asia, USA, and Europe.

Korean Epilepsy Society had an eventful year in 2016. A tragic car accident occurred by a epilepsy patient driver with subsequent criticism on epilepsy in media. Many colleagues in other countries sent me an information of driving license rule for PWE and similar incidents in their countries and many helpful comments on this accident. The KES released a statement about the accident and a proper explanation of epilepsy and PWE which increased awareness of epilepsy and understanding of PWE in the right direction.

Furthermore, we were able to solve a prescription limitation problem of SSRI antidepressant for PWE with international cooperation from 38 countries. So I greatly appreciate colleagues in other countries and I believe more intimate international network among epileptologists will improve the environment for PWE in all countries of the World.

Seoul is a lively in Korea and the cornerstone to the vibrant culture that exists in the country. The personality of the Seoul can be described as independent, confident, smart, creative, and sincere which I believe makes this city such an ideal place to hold our con- gress. I hope that all of you will come and sense these aspects of Seoul during your stay.

We invite you to attend and sincerely hope that you will enjoy your time, not only to enrich the specialty of Epilepsy, but also to develop ties and friendships. With high expectations to present you with the most memorable congress, we are very much looking forward to your presence in Seoul in June, 2017.

With my best wishes,

Seung Bong Hong, M.D., Ph.D. President, Korean Epilepsy Society (KES) Chair, Organizing Committee of 22nd Korean Epilepsy Congress (KEC 2017)
