Structure of Studies / Degrees in Germany

Bachelor: The Bachelor’s degree is a first-level university qualification which takes usually 6 se- mesters. With a Bachelor’s degree you can already start your professional career. The OWL UAS offers a variety of degree programmes which are completed with the Bachelor’s degree. In Germany it is usual to choose only one degree programme.

Master: The Master’s degree is the second-level university qualification which enables you to deepen the knowledge you have gained in the Bachelor’s degree. The Bachelor’s degree is a prerequisite for a Master’s degree programme. It takes usually 4 semesters. With the Master’s degree you can enter professional life.

You can specialize in a certain subject of study in your Master’s programme.

The OWL UAS offers specialisation possibilities in all departments.

Universities in Germany In Germany you can study at universities and universities of applied sciences. If you are interested in science and research, a university is the right place for you. Instruction at a university of applied sciences is practice-oriented. If you are interested in how “things” work and you orientate your professional future to economy and industry, a university of applied sciences is the right place for you. Certain subject areas like medical or law studies can be only pursued at universities.

The Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences The OWL UAS is a research-oriented University of Applied Sciences. The OWL UAS has four campuses in , , Höxter, and . It offers more than 40 different Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. Student Advisory Service The International Office of the OWL UAS helps you to choose your degree programme and gives you advice concerning: . the different degree programmes and the integration programme, . the admission requirements and the admission procedure, . scholastic aptitude test and evidence of your language skills, . deadlines and contact partners, . and questions about financing of studies. For a first advice please hand in all documents you have available. We will then consider any further details. Admission Requirements and Application For the admission to the integration programme and for the application you need in principle: . if present: certificates of your university entrance qualification or a completed Bachelor’s degree programme or a certificate of the semesters you have already completed, . evidence of your current German language skills (not yet required at first advice). Study Plan As (language) student you will develop your individual study plan with the student advisors. The following subjects could be a part of it: . if required, qualifying German language courses, . basic courses in mathematics and, if necessary, in chemistry or physics, . English-speaking study modules, . online modules. Furthermore, the OWL UAS offers specific eMentoring and Buddy programmes, study orientation courses, and many other advisory services for a good start in your study life in Ostwestfalen-Lippe.
