(NYSE: BKW) today announced the very first international burger restaurant in TimorLeste has opened at Timor Plaza. On December 20, Fast Food Timor Lda, owned by Dili based hospitality entrepreneur Sakib Awan, became the first BURGER KING® franchisee to bring this soughtafter international brand to the country. "We are very excited to bring the BURGER KING® brand and the worldfamous WHOPPER® sandwich to TimorLeste, says Elias Diaz Sese, president of BK Asiapac, Pte. Sakib Awan already runs a successful Gloria Jean's Coffees (TM) outlet at the shopping centre, which was an immediate hit with the business community and shoppers keen to sample TimorLeste's own renowned organic coffee as well as the international blends on the menu. The new BURGER KING® restaurant menu will have all of the brand's traditional favourites like the famous WHOPPER® sandwich, the TENDERCRISP® Chicken sandwich, onion rings, soft drinks and delicious desserts. Covenant INSURANCE GROUP, INC. SPOTLIGHTING FAST FOOD CALORIES A 2010 report by the Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service states: “Most Americans eat too few fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, but also consume too much saturated fat, sodium, and added sugar. Americans spend a large share of their food budget (42%) on food away from home (FAFH), which has been found to be less nutritious than food prepared at home. For the average consumer, eating one meal away from home each week translates to about 2 extra pounds each year, which means that for the average adult, one additional meal eaten away from home increases daily intake by about 134 calories.” If you're curious about the nutritional value of items on your favorite fast food restaurant's menu, Google “Nutrition facts” plus restaurant name. • Medical Nutrition Therapy Protocol and Handouts
Achieving a Healthy Weight in Children Medical Nutrition Therapy Protocol and Handouts Achieving a Healthy Weight in Children INTRODUCTION In 2004, there was no published national standard of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) care for children and adolescents who are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. At that time, an estimated 40% of Pitt County children and adolescents are overweight or at risk for becoming overweight. One recommendation in the “Moving Our Children Toward A Healthy Weight” state plan* was to “ensure medical providers, nutritionists/dietitians, mental health care providers and physical activity specialists have the skills needed to effectively communicate with, evaluate, and provide care for children and youth who are overweight or at-risk for overweight”. To assist with this need at a local level, a group of Pitt County dietitians and nutrition educators collaborated to develop a nutrition counseling protocol and patient education materials for use throughout Pitt County medical practices. Professionals from University Health System, the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, East Carolina University College of Human Ecology, the Growing Up FIT! Project of the North Carolina Agromedicine Institute and the Pitt County Public Health Department participated. The group was called together by the Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center at East Carolina University. The group contributed their expertise and individual creativity to develop the comprehensive nutrition protocol and education material packet for dietitians and other nutrition professionals, Pitt County physicians, case managers, and others providing nutrition care to children and adolescents. Several models were considered and the group selected the template used by the American Dietetic Association in its Medical Nutrition Therapy Across the Continuum of Care client protocols.
