    Southeast Asian Studies, Vol. 38, No.4, March 2001 Only Yesterday in Jakarta: Property Boom and Consumptive Trends in the Late New Order Metropolitan City ARAI Kenichiro* Abstract The development of the property industry in and around Jakarta during the last decade was really conspicuous. Various skyscrapers, shopping malls, luxurious housing estates, condominiums, hotels and golf courses have significantly changed both the outlook and the spatial order of the metropolitan area. Behind the development was the government's policy of deregulation, which encouraged the active involvement of the private sector in urban development. The change was accompanied by various consumptive trends such as the golf and cafe boom, shopping in gor­ geous shopping centers, and so on. The dominant values of ruling elites became extremely con­ sumptive, and this had a pervasive influence on general society. In line with this change, the emergence of a middle class attracted the attention of many observers. The salient feature of this new "middle class" was their consumptive lifestyle that parallels that of middle class as in developed countries. Thus it was the various new consumer goods and services mentioned above, and the new places of consumption that made their presence visible. After widespread land speculation and enormous oversupply of property products, the property boom turned to bust, leaving massive non-performing loans. Although the boom was not sustainable and it largely alienated urban lower strata, the boom and resulting bust represented one of the most dynamic aspect of the late New Order Indonesian society.     BAB 1 PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Masalah Perkembangan bisnis jasa tempat hiburan dan permainan untuk keluarga di Indonesia cukup menjanjikan, mengingat tingkat kebutuhan hiburan dan tempat rekreasi untuk masyarakat perkotaan cukup tinggi, dimana sarana dan prasarana tempat rekreasi di daerah perkotaan yang terbatas akibat dari perkembangan zaman. Di Indonesia industri hiburan dan permainan untuk keluarga berkembang sangat pesat seiring perubahan gaya hidup masyarakat perkotaan, dimana terjadi peningkatan jumlah orang tua yang bekerja, sehingga memiliki waktu yang terbatas untuk anak-anaknya (www.funworld.co.id/: 2018). Selain itu, dengan banyaknya pusat perbelanjaan yang ada di Indonesia merupakan sarana alternatif guna menunjang jasa hiburan dan rekreasi yang dibutuhkan oleh masyarakat. Menurut Taufik A. Wumu (Ketua Assosiasi Rekreasi Keluarga Indonesia), untuk saat ini tempat hiburan keluarga atau family entertainment center yang menjadi anggota Assosiasi Rekreasi Keluarga Indonesia (ARKI) mencapai 600 tempat yang terdapat di dalam mal dan pusat perbelanjaan dengan 17 nama merek terkemuka (www.dgip.go.id: 2018). Dengan demikian, berkembangnya bisnis jasa hiburan dan rekreasi di Indonesia yang ada sampai saat ini menunjukkan adanya keberhasilan dalam melayani kebutuhan dan permintaan konsumen. Salah satu tempat hiburan keluarga yang disukai oleh masyarakat Indonesia adalah Fun World. Literatur Mengumpulkan data melalui beberapa buku yang membahas beberapa makanan di kawasan Kelapa Gading. Dapat berupa pengumpulan data dari iklan-iklan tempat makan yang ada atau brosur menu makanan. 2. Wawancara / Interview Metode pengumpulan data dengan melakukan tanya jawab dengan pihak terkait yang menjadi pendukung dalam data yang diterima. 3. Pengamatan atau survey langsung ke lapangan Melakukan pencarian data langsung kebeberapa tempat makan yang menjadi tempat makan rekomendasi. 4. Browsing (Internet) Mencari data dengan menggunakan media internet untuk pengumpulan data- data tempat makan seperti peta buta, lokasi, jam operasional, harga (jika memungkinkan) dan nomor telepon. Untuk pengumpulan data lainnya seperti refrensi-refrensi buku dan layout. 2.2 DATA LOKASI 2.2.1 Letak Geografis Kelapa Gading Wilayah Kelapa Gading dan sekitarnya terletak pada arah timur laut kota Jakarta. Dengan kecamatan Kelapa Gading dan 3 kelurahan yaitu Kelapa Gading Barat, Kelapa Gading Timur dan Pegangsaan Dua. Kelurahan Kelapa Gading Barat dan Kelurahan Kelapa Gading Timur memiliki kode pos 14240, sedangkan Kelurahan Pegangsaan Dua memiliki kode pos 14250. 2.2.2 Sejarah Kelapa Gading Kelapa Gading merupakan wilayah kecamatan di Indonesia yang terletak di Kota Jakarta Utara. Kecamatan ini merupakan daerah yang dikembangkan oleh perusahaan properti Summarecon Agung sejak tahun 1975. Tahun 1970-an, Kecamatan Kelapa Gading masih dikenal sebagai daerah rawa dan persawahan, kini Kelapa Gading telah berubah menjadi kawasan yang tertata baik dan berkembang pesat. The development of shopping centers in Indonesia occurs in various cities, one of which is in Surabaya. Now Surabaya has the second largest number of malls after Jakarta. One of the shopping centers in Surabaya with high class mall standards is Ciputra World Surabaya. Ciputra World Surabaya carries a concept of "The Magnificent World of Lifestyle", to describe its image as a shopping center that not only accommodates shopping activities, but can be a family mall that provides the best quality in entertainment, dining, and recreation. In maintaining its image, Ciputra World Surabaya relies on public relations activities which is one of the keys to the company's success. Based on this phenomenon, this research was conducted to determine the public relations activities carried out by Ciputra World Surabaya Mall. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection methods through interviews, observation and documentation.
