Many were young, just out of high school, and in the prime of their lives. We may not know them personally. But we do know them - from history, documentaries or even movies - and we share a history of respecting our soldiers who served to protect our country. In Washington, D.C., we also give respect to those not named at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Members of the U.S. Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment consider it a honor to guard this sacred place. There is no doubt that many people will be observing Monday as our country remembers those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country’s safety and freedom. We don’t have to go to Washington, D.C. to honor them. We can go to the Carl Vinson VA Memorial Day ceremony at 2 p.m. Memorial Day is often thought of as the first holiday of the summer. While it’s good to spend time with the family on the lake or grilling out at home, don’t forget to take the time to say a prayer for those who have and are continuing to help us have the freedoms that we hold dear. We’ve heard it said “The price of freedom isn’t free.” Many men and women have paid for our freedom with their lives. We need to remember and give humble appre- ciation on Monday - Memorial Day. - Payton Towns III
