He was born September 18, 1910 in Pahala, Hawaii. Mr. Kaapana graduated from Hilo High School and from the University of Hawaii with a degree in teaching and horticulture. Taught at Farrington High School for over 30 years. Also served the HAWAII EDUCATION ASSOCIATION as Executive Secretary, was on the BOARD OF REGENTS AT U.H., BOARD OF DIRECTORS AT PACIFIC GUARDIAN LIFE INSURANCE, BOARD OF DIRECTORS FOR THE OAHU CREDIT UNION, and served as COLONEL for the 442ND "Go For Broke" ARMY RESERVE INFANTRY DIVISION AS BRIGADE COMMANDER. He was also the former PRESIDENT OF MAMAKA AIALO, and HEADED the STATE OF HAWAII BRANCH of the FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA ASSOCIATION.
