  • The Miracle of Tekir Produced by Elefant Films Hors Saison Visuel
A RUXANDRA ZENIDE feature film The Miracle of Tekir Produced by Elefant Films Hors Saison Visuel Mara The Miracle of Tekir synopsis In the heart of the Danube Delta, superstition and religion are mixed together, like the earth and water that make up the mysterious mud from Tekir’s area, not far away. Chased away Dorotheea Petre from her village because of her mysterious pregnancy, Mara finds herself employed at the Eu- ropa Hotel, providing treatment for infertile women using this miraculous mud. As she meets Madame Lili the rich and eccentric Mrs. Lili, Mara questions her beliefs and intuitions. The relationship be- tween the two women is the key of the miracle of Tekir, between magic and power, tradition and modernity. Elina Lowensohn The Miracle of Tekir The Inspiration - The Legend At the banks of the Black Sea, starting long time ago, there was a salty land, filled with muds where vegetation barely grows. The legend says that once upon a time, an old Turkish man, blind and crippled, riding his donkey, got lost and slipped on the edge of a lake here. The old man tryed relentlessly for hours to escape from the mud, but the stubborn donkey wouldn’t move. With great surprise, the old man discovered that his eyes could discern a strand of light and that he could move his feet at will. When the word got out, plenty of believeres started invading that place by the lake, bathing in the muds to get cured. Many miracles hap- pened there. Crippled started walking normally, old men became young again and women regained their fertility.

  • Romanian and Hungarian Film Cultures at the Transilvania International Film Festival
EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF MEDIA STUDIES www.necsus-ejms.org Romanian and Hungarian film cultures at the Transilvania International Film Festival NECSUS 6 (1), Spring 2017: 219–225 URL: https://necsus-ejms.org/romanian-and-hungarian-film-cul- tures-at-the-transilvania-international-film-festival/ Keywords: culture, film festival, Hungary, Romania, Transilvania An arguably late arrival in the film festival circuit (first organised in 2002), the Transilvania International Film Festival[1] has been a significant date on the FIAPF calendar since 2011. The medium-sized and competitive Roma- nian film festival has its focus on first and second feature films by filmmakers from virtually all around the globe while also paying hommage to acclaimed personalities of European cinema. Furthermore, it serves as a hub for all things related to Romanian cinema and as such has become a staple in the Central and Eastern European region for both local audiences and interested film professionals.[2] A confusion surrounding its acronymic abbreviation is rather telling: at the regional or country level most people refer to it as ’TIFF’, irrespective of the language they speak – though this acronym by and large is reserved for the Toronto International Film Festival. Therefore, in this essay ’Transilvania IFF’ will be used. Another linguistic issue relates to its official naming, where instead of ’Transylvania’ the Romanian spelling of the region has been pre- ferred – reminiscent of a national (i.e. Romanian) component which reasserts, in my view, its country-affiliation and thereby denigrating any confusion re- lated to both the historical region and the festival concept as well.

FOREWORD This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the European Film Festival in Lebanon. Thank you for joining us on this special occasion! Over the years thousands of people from all walks of life have attended hundreds of film screenings showcasing European cinema in Lebanon. The festival has become a landmark in Beirut's cultural agenda and across all major cities in Lebanon. And we are proud of this! This year this is even more special for us as we mark twenty-five years of the European Film Festival in Lebanon. The world has changed a lot over these years, the European Union has grown and expanded with new countries joining the Union and much change has happened in Lebanon as well. Throughout these years, the festival never ceased to be a platform for dialogue and exchange. Year in and year out, the film festival continues not only to be a cultural appointment but a platform to promote freedom of expression. With a wide range of films from European Member States, film makers and special visiting guests, the festival allows us to meet and engage on many different subjects relevant to our societies both in Europe and Lebanon. At times this is through laughter, other times it is with tears… Cinema is one thing which undoubtedly has the power to touch us all. Whether it's your first time at the festival or you have been following the festival for many years, thank you for joining us and I hope you enjoy the programme of the 25th European Film Festival anniversary! Dir. Radu Jude Romania/Bulgaria/Czech Republic / 2015 / 106 min / B&W / DCP! (shot on 35mm) In Romanian, with English subtitles Aspect ratio: 2.35:1 Sound: Dolby Digital 5.1 Silver Bear – Best Director – Berlin International Film Festival; Grand Prize City of Lisboa – IndieLisboa International Independent Film Festival; Official Selection – Tribeca Film Festival; selected to represent Romania for the 2016 Academy Awards Eastern Europe, 1835. Two riders cross a barren landscape in the middle of Wallachia. They are the gendarme Costandin and his son. Together they are searching for a gypsy slave who has run away from his nobleman master and is suspected of having an affair with the noble's wife. While the unflappable Costandin comments on every situation with a cheery aphorism, his son takes a more contemplative view of the world. On their odyssey they encounter people of different nationalities and beliefs: Turks and Russians, Christians and Jews, Romanians and Hungarians. Each harbors prejudices against the others which have been passed down from generation to generation. And even when the slave Carfin is found, the adventure is far from over... Radu Jude’s third feature has been aptly compared to films as diverse as THE SEARCHERS, THE LAST DETAIL and PULP FICTION (the latter for its rambling, coarse and endlessly entertaining dialogues), but the film is ultimately a moving parable about late-feudal Europe developed from historical documents and songs: its power structures and hierarchies, people's ideas of themselves and others, interaction with minorities and the resulting conflicts.

  • Strip Your Script. Make It Better. We Will Take It Worldwide. Dear Friends
2021 Strip your script. Make it better. We will take it worldwide. Dear Friends, For a year now, the whole world, including all of us filmmakers, has been struggling with this virus. A universal experience which, with all the drama, and sometimes tragedy, goes painfully to the heart of filmmaking: in a large group and with a lot of effort, at a high pace and with large groups of people, right next to each other. We are all affected by this, though perhaps less so for the scriptwriters. As our friend and one of the best scriptwriters we know says: “Nothing has particularly changed for me, I always utilize my imagination alone in a room, and now I have more topics, and when I go out with my dog, there are fewer people on the streets, which helps me to think.” And that’s what we’ve seen in the latest versions of the scripts from our ScripTeasters this year: tremendous focus, application of feedback from great advisors, and wonderful progress in the scripts. That’s great, because we’re all waiting for good scripts, for that moment when we defeat the virus and make movies out of our scripts. In these films you will certainly see the accumulated energy, the explosive creative discharge. And today let us rejoice, because we are meeting in Berlin, just as if we were physically there, for the screenwriters are not lacking in imagination, simply to see Der Himmel über Berlin.
