This study presents a methodological framework for understanding early modern patronage in which the arts are necessarily viewed as interconnected, and patronage is understood as a complex and often contradictory process that involved all elements of society. First, this study examines the legacy of arts patronage that Albrecht V inherited from his Wittelsbach predecessors and developed during his reign, from 1550-1579. Albrecht V‟s patronage is then divided into three areas: northern princely humanism, traditional religion and sociological propaganda.

    Infant Mortality Decline in Rural and Urban Bavaria: Sanitary Improvement and Inequality in Bavaria and Munich, 1825-19101 Abstract A high infant mortality regime characterized much of the German Kingdom of Bavaria during the long nineteenth century. Conditions in Munich were reflective of this regime, with 40 deaths per 100 births not uncommon during the early 1860s. Infant mortality in all of Bavaria declined slowly in rural areas until World War I. In urban areas, the decline was much more impressive with the median falling by one-half up to 1913. The decline in Munich was even more dramatic. This paper examines the causes of infant mortality in both Bavaria as a whole and in Munich. The analysis of Bavaria examines district-level data for the period 1880 through 1910. The examination of Munich is for the period 1825-1910, which is a period of substantial economic and social change as well as sanitary reform. Patterns of land distribution, fertility and sanitary provision all play a role in accounting for the decline in infant mortality.     Verordnung über das Naturschutzgebiet „Charlottenhofer Weihergebiet“ vom 14. Dezember 1988 (RABl S. 73, ersetzt durch Bekanntmachung im RABl Nr.1/1989, S. 3) Auf Grund von Art. 7, Art. 45 Abs. 1 Nr. 2 a und Art. 37 Abs. 2 Nr. 2 des Bayerischen Naturschutzgesetzes (BayNatSchG) erlässt die Regierung der Oberpfalz folgende Verordnung: § 1 Schutzgegenstand Das Weihergebiet zwischen der Stadt Schwandorf und den Gemeinden Wackersdorf, Schwarzenfeld und Schwarzach bei Nabburg, jeweils Landkreis Schwandorf, wird unter der Bezeichnung „Charlottenhofer Weihergebiet“ in den in § 2 näher bezeich- neten Grenzen als Naturschutzgebiet festgesetzt. § 2 Schutzgebietsgrenzen (1) Das Schutzgebiet (Größe 833,0 ha) liegt in der Stadt Schwandorf, Gemarkung Kronstetten, im Markt Schwarzenfeld, Gemarkungen Pretzabruck und Sonnen- ried, in der Gemeinde Wackersdorf, Gemarkungen Rauberweiherhaus und Wa- ckersdorf und in der Gemeinde Schwarzach bei Nabburg, Gemarkung Weiding. (2) Die Grenzen des Schutzgebietes, die Nutzungszone Ia (landwirtschaftliche Bodennutzung als Acker oder Grünland, § 5 Nr. 1a).
