Erlesener und hochkarätiger besetzt könnte das Feld der klassischen Renntourenwagen bei der siebten und damit abschließenden Partie des laufenden Rennsportjahres 2018 kaum sein. Zahlreiche Hauptdarsteller der Deutschen Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft in ihrer ursprünglichen Form greifen auf dem Hockenheimring am zweiten Oktoberwochenende in die Volants. Besonders auffallend ist die Dichte prominent pilotierter Mercedes-Benz, und das aus einem historischen Grund. Die Schlagzeilen: Große Namen: Neben Klaus Ludwig, Roland Asch, Harald Grohs, Marc Hessel und Christian Menzel greifen auch Jörg van Ommen, Bernd Mayländer und Kurt Thiim in das Geschehen ein. Meisterschaftsentscheidungen: In der hart umkämpften Klasse 3 der Gruppe-A-Renntourenwagen können Harald Grohs und Ralph Bahr mit dem Vogelsang-BMW M3 den Titel einfahren. Schwanengesang: Nach 30 Jahren beendet Mercedes-Benz das Engagement in der heutigen DTM. Eine erlesene Auswahl klassischer DTM-Boliden im Zeichen des Sterns flankiert den Abschied. 37 Starter haben bisher ihre Nennung abgegeben zu einem Rennen, das ein Fall für die Geschichtsbücher zu werden verspricht.
