Il nuovo album, “Ape in Pink Marble”, il nono della discografia, pubblicato da Nonesuch, uscito pochi mesi fa: scritto, prodotto, arrangiato e registrato a Los Angeles dall’artista americano insieme ai suoi collaboratori di lunga data, Noah Georgeson e Josiah Steinbrick, arriva a tre anni dal precedente “Mala”, e contiene atmosfere orientali, anche grazie alla presenza del koto, un’arpa giapponese. È descritto da Q come l’apice della sua carriera e dal Wall Street Journal come il suo lavoro: «pi conciso, sommesso e seducente fino ad ora». Un piccolo assaggio ai fan italiani lo scorso settembre, quando Devendra ha partecipato al Wired Next Fest e all’incontro D Musica. PRESS RELEASE GALLERIA MAZZOLI Saturday July 19th 2014 at 6h30 p.m. Galleria Mazzoli in Modena will proudly present the second solo exhibition of Devendra Banhart. The exhibition will be comprised of several series of new works involving various techniques and materials, showing the evolution if his recent artistic research. A significant part of the show will feature the “sphinx” series, where the recurrent motive is indeed the mythological figure with the human head and the lion body ― a protective symbol in ancient Egypt ― guardian of the forbidden gate of the underworld and a symbol for power and enigma in ancient Greece. All of Devendra's monochromatic “sphinxes” are created with Indian ink on vintage paper, providing the drawings with a nostalgic flavor, and appear like enclosed spaces which contain refined tales or nexuses of repeating lines, shapes and figures that sometimes become fantastic and visionary representations, some of whose traits recall petroglyphic engravings. The repetition of some of the motives almost appear as the graphical representations of the tunes that we also find in his music, therefore underlining the close link between the artist's musical and visual expression. The exhibition also explores the theme of still life. In the still life series Devendra interprets the classic genre using a different technique, that of oil on paper, which allows him to experiment various chromatic variations. The exhibition finally presents other new abstract works both on paper and wood. BIOGRAPHY Devendra Banhart exploded on the international music scene in 2002 quickly winning a coterie of devoted fans as well as an unusually hefty amount of critical kudos right from the outset that has grown steadily through to the present. -

ACCADEMIA DEI BAMBINI AT FONDAZIONE PRADA IN MILAN PRESENTS “THE ASTONISHING ADVENTURES OF A CELESTIAL ARCHAEOLOGIST”, A NEW SERIES OF WORKSHOPS CONCEIVED AND CURATED BY MUSICIAN AND VISUAL ARTIST DEVENDRA BANHART Milan,2 May 2018 – From Saturday 5 May 2018, Accademia dei bambini at Fondazione Prada in Milan will host a new series of workshops, titled “Imaginary Universes”, conceived and curated by internationally renowned musician and visual artist Devendra Banhart. In the spaces of the Accademia, every Saturday and Sunday, children will have the opportunity to travel through galaxies in a magic imaginary spacecraft. After sailing past stars, space cakes, asteroids and comets, they will arrive at an undiscovered planet, inhabited by strange animals, cheese trees, lights, colours and sounds never seen or heard in any other universe. Employing blank globes and markers, children will be able to invent fantastical unexplored planets. Devendra Banhart will personally lead the workshops scheduled for Saturday 5 May, “The Astonishing Adventures of a Celestial Archaeologist”, at 11am, 2pm and 4pm respectively. Workshops are open to all children aged 4-10. Due to the Accademia’s limited capacity, booking is essential. Places are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. L’ACCADEMIA DEI BAMBINI ALLA FONDAZIONE PRADA PRESENTA “LE STRAORDINARIE AVVENTURE DI UN ARCHEOLOGO CELESTIALE”, UN CICLO DI LABORATORI A CURA DI DEVENDRA BANHART Milano, 2 maggio 2018 – Da sabato 5 maggio 2018, l’Accademia dei bambini alla Fondazione Prada a Milano presenta un nuovo ciclo di laboratori, dal titolo “Le Straordinarie Avventure di un Archeologo Celestiale”, concepito e curato dal musicista e artista visivo Devendra Banhart. Negli spazi dell’Accademia, ogni sabato e domenica, i bambini potranno viaggare attraverso le galassie a bordo di un’immaginaria navicella spaziale. Incontrando sul loro percorso antiche stelle, torte spaziali, asteroidi e comete, arriveranno a scoprire un nuovo pianeta, abitato da strane creature, alberi di formaggio, luci, colori e suoni mai esistiti in nessun altro universo. Ultilizzando sfere trasparenti e colori, i partecipanti potranno quindi creare fantastici pianeti inesplorati. L’artista Devendra Banhart condurrà personalmente i laboratori previsti sabato 5 maggio alle ore 11, 14 e 16. I workshop sono gratuiti e aperti a tutti i bambini tra i 4 e i 10 anni. Hay At the grassroots, Appalachian music encompasses much more than traditional music genres, like old-time and bluegrass. While these prevailing musics continue to inform most popular and scholarly understandings of the region’s musical heritage, many contemporary scholars dismiss such narrow definitions of “Appalachian music” as exclusionary and inaccurate. Many researchers have, thus, sought to broaden current understandings of Appalachia’s diverse contemporary and historical cultural landscape as well as explore connections between Appalachian and other regional, national, and global cultural phenomena. In April 2009, I began participant observation and interviewing in an experimental music scene unfolding in downtown Boone, North Carolina. -
